I think I've really warmed to it. Its definately more of a visual thing than an aural thing though. When you look at the logo it does kinda represent the whole out-there-ness and image that they want it to have. Another week and i bet we'll all be wondering what the fuss was about!

Here's the deal: I like Windows, but can't stand Xbox. The downside to Windows is there is not a fancy interface like in Mac OS X. The Xbox is too clunky. It's the King Kong of consoles! The 360 is basically the same. It's not that much smaller. The Wii is going to be about the size of three DVD cases stacked on top of eachother, the PS3 is probably going to be fairly slim, so once more, the Xbox loses! I am a Nintendo Fan, personally!

If you ask me, it's sad how people can't accept others for what they like. In my language arts class, we had to fill out an opinionaire, and I dissagreed with most all of the statements. One of them was every family strives to be a modle family. One kid agreed with it, saying that it meant you had a mom, a dad, and/or siblings. But me and a girl said that that is not always true. There are some that don't want kids. There are some people that don't have a mom and a dad. Some are single parented, some have two moms/dads. I think it dissapointing that many people can't just accept others for what they are. Many kids at my school hate me or dislike me because of my Nintendo fandom. I was talking to some kid, and then a kid I don't like came up and said, "Are you talking to him about your Nintendo site?" I find it sad that people are like that.
By the way, can someone change the name to something a little less offensive, like The I Strongly Dislike Xbox Thread or something? You know, so people don't get pissed at me for something like that...

It's true that Microsoft should have stuck to it's own turf, and when it was truly ready, enter the console arena. That, of course, should have been about two decades into the future, when they would almost be dead. By that time, they would introduce the Xbox, which would be a gaming revolution for the time. But their time is not now!
Personally I like the idea of a hard drive in a console, but the thing was just so big that's what I hated about it.
Anyway I'm getting an XBOX so I can continue the Oddworld series, but I'm not touching the 360. So far the 360 seems like a ripoff with the two different packages you can get.
The 360 has two different versions. The core, and the better one. The core is basically the 360, and only a 360, for only 300 dollars. The better one is a hundred more, and gives you backwards compatibility, and more. (I think) You must think like the enemy to beat the enemy. So I must learn about the enemy to know it's weakness's! And who would pay that much for a console anyway? I like the Wii's approach, which is small design, massive innovation, all for a small price. It's really well thought out. Plus, the fact that Nintendo offers free Wifi on both the DS and the Rev! Now that's a bargain! Don't you just love a bargain?
I'm not much of a console-fan as a whole, but I prefer Xbox over Playstation or any of Nintendo's consoles. Mostly, they have a wider selection of games, and while they're not as original as say Nintendo are, they manage to draw a more varied crowd. Whereas Nintendo mostly attracts the Nintendo fans as a whole and the Asian market.
IMO of course.
So will Wii be able to support a huge number of players? Granted, you'd probably need extra TVs to show all the players. :P

I won't deny that the Xbox's selection of games is much bigger, and more on the T and M ratings, but I prefer the Nintendo games personally. Remember the expression, "Don't judge a book by it's cover"? A lot of people tell me that Nintendo's games look kiddy, but I think that while they have a childish appearance, they are extremely tough to beat in the end. I never finished any of the Zelda games, I had to rely on cheats, and still I can't beat them! (But I am beginning to abandon my old ways of cheating entirely! Starting with Kingdom Hearts 2, I am using zero cheats! Same goes for Tomb Raider: Legend!)
I'm barely aware that cheats exist. XD I've never used any. :P I think I'm pretty ok at video games, but I've never managed to beat any FF game. :P I know for FFX though, the plot didn't interest me enough to keep playing. :P
Cheats exist in almost every game, the problem is that you usually need something to find them. Action Replay's the best, and then there's GameShark, and a lot more. Action replay is number one though. At least that's what they say on their package! XD
I had a Gameshark for my Gameboy once! I didn't know how to make it work, but I thought it was really cool. :P

Well, the beef for me is with the selection of games. Nintendo tends to follow a very strong theme. I don't mind "kiddish" games, but on the other hand, that's not why I pay a lot of money for a console. I want a variety, both simple and fun games, as well as realistic and complex games, and in the past Nintendo has never appealed to me in that sense. I also havn't been much into many of their products, as well as most Japanese products as a whole, I tend to prefer more western(world)-styled games.
I want a wii!

If I had the money I'd get a 360. I think Microsoft have done incredibly well to get as far in the western market as they have, I mean what other company could put Nintendo into third place with their first entry into the console world? Fair enough alot of that is to do with the financial backing they have, its allowed them to purchase dev cos and exclusivity deals with the big games but you cant say its solely down to that. They provided the first online service that is actually nice to use and embraced it alot more than any other console manufacturer before them did which has paved the way for Nintendo and Sony to bring out their own slightly refined services.
In a perfect world I'd have a Wii and 360 but i doubt ill have the funds for a 360 for a long while yet so its just going to have to be a Wii.
But here's the thing: Nintendo said that the Wii would be the lowest priced of all three consoles, meaning if you save enough, you'll have enough. And you have some very true points! And Nintendo also paved the way for today's games. Without Nintendo, we wouldn't even have the Vibrate feature on controllers! They invented that on the N64 controller with a rumble pack, I think... Without Nintendo, video games would never be where they are today! (Or at least they would be much farther behind!)
I played an Xbox once and I really didn't like it. :P I LOVE my N64, and I REALLY want a Gamecube. People say that it wasn't as good as it could be or other stuff or whatever, but I think it's AWESOME. XD
As for Sony, I have to say that KH is my favorite series so....that's why I have a PS2. :P

I'm getting a Wii. I was originally a Sega girl as a youngin, but that moved to Nintendo. I'm trying to be a bit more broad now in my gaming tastes XDD;

The ps2 was my first console. I got James bond games for it! I got two. I was ecstatic when I got it! I rushed home to play it, and then for christmas about two years ago, I got a Gamecube, and I bought a PSP and a DS out of my own hard earned money. My parents bought me a GBA as well as a GBA SP, but now I have to buy all my own electronics! (And that's why I have a job!)
I played Halo, and couldn't stand it at all. The camera control is just poor, and I died all the time! (I then resorted to killing myself purposefully on it! Just jumping off buildings for no reason! I was at my neighbor's house, and he was playing against his cousin, and some of his friends were with us too!) XD

First off I have to say I'm a Nintendo Fanboy but not so much in recent years. The reason that i love Nintendo is the NES at the time it was the only game in town. The NES had all kinds games From kiddy games like Sesame Street to Adult games Bubble Bath Babes. (Also my first videogame was SMB)
Nowadays I love all the systems. Why you ask? Well because all those great games that started out on NES spread out to the other systems that came on the market.
Example: Metal Gear/Nes -> Metal Gear Solid 3/Playstation 2
Ninja Gaiden/Nes -> Ninja Gaiden/Xbox
Kirby's Adventure/Nes -> Kirby's Air Ride/GameCube
The reasons I loved Xbox: Exclusive Games, Xbox Live, The first American System in a long while
The reasons I hated Xbox: Long loading times, Tons of Sports Games, Hacking and other common Pc Problems, High Price
So if I'm ever get a 360 they are gonna have to make more fun games and improve the system problems and lower the price.(There's no way I'm paying $400 for a system! I could buy a new PC for the same price or less.) So right now the only reason i want it is the sweet games. Hopefully they bring out more of those games on PC. I'm gonna get Tomb Raider Legend on PC just because of the price.
I personally can't stand PC gaming (point & click adventure games obviously exempt from this statement!), so if I can get something for a console, I will.
I have to agree, the loading times can suck on the XBox, but sometimes they're not too bad! I don't see myself getting a 360, unless I find it either really cheap, or find a load of games I want for it. Nintendo consoles ALWAYS Have loads of games that interest me, which is why I've stuck with them!
I prefer PCs because my computer is where I do all my stuff. XD

Anyway I personally see Halo as a pretty good FPS. Tried it on the XBOX but I really sucked at it, I find FPS's to be hard on consoles, so anyway I played my mates PC copy and it's a friggin' good game. :D
I've never been too fond of the Xbox, but I suppose that's mostly due to the lack of games that really interest me. But if there does happen to be a game that interests me, it's like LN said....

First off I would like to introduce myself, I am DeathDeli as you can see. I play a variety of games and own all current and almost all previous consoles. I hope to own all the next-gen consoles as well, since I have an urge to collect them :). In addition, I also read IGN, GameSpot, and multiple other videogame news sources daily in order to keep up with all the changes in the video game industry.
I would like to bring to light a few facts to those that do not keep track with all the changes and news. However, if you do not choose to read all of this then please just read the last few paragraphs.
To begin, as said previously I have all current and so far the only next-gen console available, the Xbox 360. Contrary to what some individuals state the 360 is formitable hardware. The cream of the crop has to be the Xbox Live service, which one must have a broadband connection whether it be Cable or DSL. Xbox Live comes in two flavors, Silver or Gold. The Silver service is free while Gold service is just a small fee of $50 a year, not a month, not a day, a year.
The FREE Silver Service provides you with free downloadable demos, new and classic arcade games for download (price range around $5 to $12, such as the the classic game Uno only $5 and addictive at that!), free HD music videos, free HD movie trailers, free HD game previews, and some free downloadable content. Plus, you are also able to talk to your friends and others in voice chat while playing arcade games, xbox 360 games, downloading content, and so on for free as well!
The Gold Service has all that plus a bag of chips. The major addition between silver and gold has to be the multiplayer experience, with an addition to webcam chat that will be arriving september in the US.
Lastly, there are those out there than are probably wondering: "Ok, so that is the xbox 360 but what about the PS3, or the Nintendo Wii?"
Before I continue let be reinterate that I love all the consoles (admittedly, some more than others ;) ), in fact I am planning on also getting a Nintendo Wii and since Iwata (President of Nintendo) said himself, ""Nintendo is not working on a next-generation console" (http://www.gamespot.com/news/6152265.html (http://www.gamespot.com/news/6152265.html)) meaning they are trying to seperate themselves from the competition, to be in a world of their own and I strongly respect that.
The PS3 probably has the least of my love, don't get me wrong I love some of their games however it just comes down to their console. Sony announced at E306 that the PS3 will be $600, that is $200 more than the Xbox 360 (not to mention at the end of this year rumors have it that Microsoft will lower the price of the Xbox 360 $50, bringing it down to $250 for the core and $350 for the premium). $600 bucks may be a lot of money, however Sony is also offering another package like Microsoft is doing now. The other package will be priced at $500. I believe it's pretty expensive for a console, not to mention that you can buy a premium Xbox 360 AND a Nintendo Wii probably for the price of a PS3. (Xbox 360 = $400, Wii = roughly $200, which in total = $600 the PS3 price).
The difference between the two SKUs is that $600 bucks is for a PS3 with a 60gig hard-drive, and $500 is for a PS3 with a 20gig hard-drive. At the surface, this looks like a better deal than the Xbox 360. However, inside it is a rude awakening. What Sony doesn't tell the consumers is that the $500 console does not contain some of the bells and whistles the $600 console carries. The $500 console are as follows: No HDMI support, No memory card support, and No Wi-Fi Support (http://ps3.ign.com/articles/709/709973p1.html (http://ps3.ign.com/articles/709/709973p1.html)). Although Phil Harrison said those things can be added later, it doesn't mean when it ships it will have those for the $500 model at launch. Looking at this the core Xbox 360 package looks pretty good to me.
Sony is also taking a gamble with the PS3, boasting in it's new next-gen blu-ray player. The problem with this is the fact there isn't blu-ray players out yet to play movies. HD-DVD is the only next-gen available on the market right now, and with HD-DVD getting a head start in the consumer market the blu-ray medium has less of a chance to become standard. If the PS3 blu-ray technology fails to sell to movie go-ers then it will only be used to play current DVDs or games, and will not be accepted for next-gen movie playback.
Microsoft set themselves up nicely with this. The Xbox 360 will come out with a external HD-DVD player to play movies of that medium. This means if HD-DVD fails to deliver, then Microsoft can just make an external blu-ray player as well. Microsoft wins either way.
Sorry for a little bit of a rant there, however I just wanted to give some individuals a little bit more insight to the industry.

i'm buying the $600 ps3. i know that it costs a lot more than any other next gen system. but it will be better. sony couldve just been a whole lot smarter and just made one system for $600. the $500 wont be as good. the only reason that you would buy the $500 version is if you dont have enough money.

You know, some people might want to play the games that will be on the PS3, but won't be able to due to the price. If you ask me, that gives them every right to complain. :P
I bought a Xbox 360 Premium on ebay last christmas for $800! And I have to say it's worth every penny, now they're finally in stock at your local best buy store! The games you play on it are great plus you can play them in HD and Dolby 5.1 Surround sound, on the Internet for multiplayer, and talk with your friends, and watch DVDs! For $399.99 [the current cost for a premium at a best buy store.] that to me is a bargan compared to the PS3 witch will cost at a minimum $500 [$600 if you want all the features.]. And Nintendo Wii, I just don't like the controller design, It looks strange.
I have an Xbox 360, it came with my tv package. Have to say iI do like the controller, and its a great system.

You do understand that is just the first person interactive controller right? Its kind of a virtual reality thing to give you the feeling of having a gun in the hand, or a sword, or whatever.
There is actually a more traditional controller for rpg and other style games. The wand just slips into the regular controller.
Plus they are even designing a zapper attachment that the wand can stick into to give you more gun shaped controller.
So the controller is completely modular and you build it up the way you want depending on the type of game you are playing.
Additionally they have another controller option that is more like an snes controller for use with their wii download games.
Now perhaps your average consumer isn't going to want to buy 3-4 add-ons for their system....
Of course with Xbox and 360 you have to buy the DVD remote if you want an easier way of controlling dvds :p...

I dont see anything wrong with this tbh. It simply shows that in the future this kind of control method will most likely be incorporated with all future consoles. Plus you have to remember, Wii ships with its innovative controler whereas with these devices the consumer has to buy them AS WELL as a game, so its not going to have amazing support from developers.
I bet nintendo are feeling pretty smug right now as after all, immitation is the best form of flattery :)

Nintendo is a master in the arts of innovation. Sony and Microsoft are mere pupils trying to learn Nintendo's way, but can never seem to get it right... They just can't take the candy from the baby... It's harder than you think anyway... ;)

Im not much of a fan of sony's innovations but Microsoft have done ALOT for online play with their Live infrastructure. Still Nintendo have taken a different approach with theirs which is (perhaps more importantly) free.

I don't see Sony's approach as innovation more of a draw back on most fronts. The only thing that Sony has going for them is sequels to big game series like Final Fantasy. If they didn't have that I wouldn't be getting a PS3.

I'm all for Nintendo expanding the demographic of gamers to non-gamres, but there seems to be ALOT of games aimed at them at the moment. Obviously if they want to do it right they need a big push at first to capture them (lol sounds like a war!) but I hope they keep a ba;ance between the Zelda like titles and the Warioware titles.
And talking of Zelda...anyone seen the two new videos released by Ninty? I'm starting to get that tingly pre zelda launch feeling allll over again :smitten:
of the games i have heard about for the wii release, all of them are using the motion sensing tech. and many of them are games like warioware. with the exception of zelda, i dont think that the games are that good. unless they come out with another super smash bros...
and i dont like the controller. the idea of a joystick/trigger button in one hand and a dpad/trigger/four button in another doesnt feel right to me. and id miss the extra joysick. :'(
Dude, they ARE coming out with another Smash Bros (http://www.smashbros.com/). And it doesn't use the special controller features, it plays with the normal controller that you have the option of using. It can also be played with GC controllers. :P
I love the look of the Wii hand control. Looks like a SNES control with analog sticks. Can't wait to try it out... :D

The Wii is absolutely amazing. When you first pick up the controller and see the hand cursor following your EXACT moves it's almost scary how acurate is! The games are fabulous but they do take a couple of minutes get used to. The Mii Channel is fun, and lots of the games are cool. I was first in line to get mine :D and left with it 7 minutes early on my watch but the cashier's watch said 12:00 so it was cool. By the time I got home (I'm lucky I live so close to a Gamestop!) it was 12:02 on my house's clock. It was awesome. I played for 2 hrs. and was instantly hooked. Try out the console in your game store, you have to play it to believe it.
Set up of the Wii:
I did it very quickly and only had to consult the manual once or twice. The Wii is VERY small. It's only like 8 or 9 inches high and it is THIN. It rocks though. A CD is pretty much the size of 3/4 of it.
These are the games I got and a brief description on what is good about them:
Red Steel
Have only played a bit of it but it's pretty cool. It's a bit hard to control your aim at first but you get used to it after a few minutes. A little confusing at first but as far as I can tell it's gonna be a fun one.
Wii Sports
VERY FUN! VERY EASY TO PLAY! I literally got playing within minutes. Lots of fun for the first hour then the novelty starts to wear off. I played it again today (an hour ago as opposed to 12 in the morning) with a friend. It was even more fun then. Tennis is probably one of the best with close runners up being bowling. Boxing isn't as fun as you'd think it'd be, baseball is pretty fun, golf is fun but I suck at it. XD
Super Monkey Ball Banana Blitz
VERY FUN! I like this one a lot. I also like how there are 50 mini games. Some of the fun ones (that I've played) are Disc Golf and Snowboarding. The Wiimote works perfectly with this title.
Excite Truck
CRAZY! I've crashed more in this game than I ever have in a game before. I only played 4 times and I crash SOOOO much! It's fun though. It's just fast, FAST, crash-infested, OCTANE fueled, fun.
The controls take a little while to get used to but not very long. After the first or second race you'll be pretty comfortable with it. (But you'll still crash! XD)
Legend of Zelda Twilight Princess
I have not played this yet because I want to allot a LOT (XD) of time to play this one. It looks ABSOLUTELY AMAZING though.

I GOT THE WIIIIIIIIII!!!!!!!!!!!!! Sorry. It is amazing, as A3P said! Twilight Princess is good, Avatar is a letdown, Downhill Jam is decent, and Wii sports is okay.... I heard Red Steel was really bad... Xplay gave twilight princess a five out of five! A perfect score! I was waiting for four hours outside toys R US to get my greedy little hands on the thing... And it all payed off.. Literally. Some guy payed me to buy him a capachino.... (I know, I spelled it wrong...)
Red Steel isn't that bad. It just takes time to get used too. I think that Wii sports is great! Sure it gets boring, but you need to play it with a friend. As for Downhill Jam and Avatar, I didn't look into them because I didn't think they looked good. I reccomend Super Monkey Ball. It's fantastic! I was playing it with my friend the other day and we were doing a mini-game that's like the shot-put. It's hillarious! You hold down the A button and twirl around in circles to build up momentum. Then, you release the A button and the shot-put thingy goes flying. The Mini-Game is called Hammer Throw I think. You could probably sell the meh games and get better ones but I definitely think you should try the games more before you get rid of any of them.
My dad managed to get a Wii on Sunday, not sure how but he did... no preorder needed. XD
We have Wii Sports and Twilight Princess... I'm horrible at the sports except for bowling. XD My high score in bowling is around 190 and I hit Pro status, which makes the bowling ball have stars and sparkles on it. So awesome. :D
Twilight Princess = pure awesome. I just spasm with the controllers while holding Z to kill all enemies in my vicinity. XD

will someone tell mii what the wiis controller button layout is? do you have to caliberate the controller? my sis wants one.
i admit, the wii is pretty cool and there are a few games that would be better on it.
This is the controller configuration and NO you do not have to calibrate it but you probably can. Also, you do need a sensor bar.

for the Nunchuk Attachment (which you should definitely purchase)
it has one analog stick on the front, some motion sensing abilities a small C button on the top of the back, and a larger Z button below that. You hold it with your thumb on the analog stick and then you have 1 finger on the C button. When I first started I had a finger on the C and a finer on the Z and my Z button finger (my middle finger) got sore. :(
:D sigh this all sounds so great!
I'm not getting one till the 8th of January, when i get my next installment of student loan. By then I'll know whether its worth importing one from the US or if should stick with UK.

I can't say I'm too happy about the friend codes to be honest. It seems that they arent even console specific, they're going to be game specific which means entering different codes for different people on EVERY Wifi game, bit of a head ache really.

I only have had a chance to play Wii at a friend's house. The sports games are fun. Definitely lots of fun and a great concept. I played a few games of boxing with a friend and I started breathing harder.
