Title: Al Lowe returning to the industry?
Post by: TribeHasSpoken on May 05, 2006, 06:28:31 PM
The following comes from Adventure Europe (http://www.adventure-eu.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=234&Itemid=63):

QuoteAccording to an article in Gamasutra, Al Lowe might be returning to game development. The article states that a mystery invitation for a press conference during the E3  issued last week stated:

"Alloweha," says the invitation. "A new company with a new game is Launching at E3 under the watch of a Legendary game designer known for creating Outrageously fun games that feature hi-Larry-ous characters With an undeniable knack for Entertaining millions of people..."

The press invitation had a logo saying: Mystery Island Ecstasy Week which might mean that Al Lowe might be heading a new development studio. More should be revealed during the E3 next week.

Personally, I'd be thrilled. He did say something in C-J3000.

Well, there  is  (http://www.cduniverse.com/productinfo.asp?pid=7014699&style=games&cart=337995332&BAB=E) a new Leisure Suit Larry... Maybe he's working on that? Or, it could also be a practical joke... But if this is true, then it means that Roberta might also... Supposedly...

Thanks goodness, The so called "LSL8" was a pathetic "tribute" to the entire series. Like MoE to KQ, just worse, since that hd some (albeit, not very amny nor any good ones) puzzles. MCL didn't have anything.

I saw the article months ago, but first, that was a rumor, second, this isn't the only site that has it!  This  (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000CC3AB2/qid=1147116999/sr=8-2/ref=sr_1_2/104-9014313-5996742?%5Fencoding=UTF8&v=glance&n=468642) is amazon, and  this  (http://www.target.com/gp/detail.html/sr=1-1/qid=1147117104/ref=sr_1_1/601-3570287-7954565?%5Fencoding=UTF8&asin=B000CC3AB2) is Target!

Those pages still have it listed, and they have not been canceled since, so I'm not so sure that that was true. Besides, it was just a rumor...

EDIT: Check  This  (http://www.gamespot.com/news/6150087.html) out!
Title: Al Lowe's back in business!
Post by: copycat on May 10, 2006, 03:24:20 PM
It seems that veteran adventure game designer Al Lowe, famous for his Leisuire Suit Larry series of graphic adventures, has been lying low(e) for a while now, planning his return to the video game industry. Today that return was made official, as Lowe's new studio iBase announced its own creation, and the introduction of a new video game protagonist from Lowe: Sam Suede. The first game starring the new character is entitled "Sam Suede: Undercover Exposure." It is the first in a genre Lowe calls "action comedy."

Quote"I needed a good reason to abandon my strenuous life of Mai Tais and golf, and this proved to be it," said Lowe, Chief Creative Officer of iBase Entertainment. "Ken and I are creating a game that's big on humor, and provides the fun and exploration lacking in many of today's games. I've always wanted to play a game about a common man thrust into extraordinary circumstances and surrounded by beautiful women. Sam Suede is that game.

...    "Al and I noticed how easy it is to find action comedy movies, but not action comedy games," said Wegrzyn, CEO of iBase Entertainment. "And thus was born the action comedy genre, with our first project Sam Suede: Undercover Exposure."

The developer's official site specifically states that Sam Suede is "not an adventure game." Rather, "Sam is an action game that has laughs where other games use violence." Sam Suede: Undercover Exposure is set to ship for PC in 2007.

Just so you know, I don't have time to browse through all the sections of the forum and this is one of the many sections of the forum I totally ignore, so excuse me for  not doing a search to find other Al Lowe-threads.
PS: The only reason why you edited a mere 5 hours before I officially knew about it is the fact I'm in another time-zone, and thus I had access to that infomation later. 8)

It's alright! I forgive you! XD I feel sad when in Japan, they get a press conference before it comes over here! It's really annoying!

There's even an audio-interview. I won't post the direct link, just go to ibaseentertainment.com and click on 'Press', and you'll see a whole lot more articles. Ofcourse, several of those articles are the same over and over again, only in a slightly different order. 8)

Awesome!!!!!! ;D

I always prefer audio interviews to written ones, I can't do much else when reading.

Yeah, money problems.  :-\ Too bad, since I was planning for this to be my first beta-testing of a commercial game. In fact, if it hadn't been canceled, chances are I would now have been beta-testing instead of posting on this forum.

Certainly too bad. This probably means that Al Lowe will never return into the (professional) game industry, which means that more crappy games will be released . . .
