Would it be possible to have each chapter downloaded in separate parts? This would make it easier for those of us who have dialup. I just figured this would be a simple solution to the problem but I don't know if it would work. Basically anything above 30 megabytes would be too big to download here because we only have two phone lines in a house of four people.
Welcome foamybrew! ;D
You may use a Download Manager (such as GetRight) and it will have the ability to resume large downloads. Also, we may build the resume capability right into the Installer, if time permits.
Alternatively, you could start saving up for broadband or DSL lite! XD

Got one already, bring it on Dude. 8)
Totally!
It's not that I can't afford it it's that I live in Hickville and we don't have it. Hopefully by next month but you can wish in one hand and... well you know the rest. And 60 dollar a month satelite isn't an option. Could I have a ballpark estimate of the first chapter? Like within 100 megabytes wouldn't be too hard to guess at would it? I figured it'd be around 500 mb but I could be way off. Guess I'll try it with a download manager from like midnight to 6 am every day. I think I'm going through midlife crisis with all this nostalgia going through my mind. The bad thing is I'm only 17! :o
Unfortunately, I can't estimate it. The demo we sent VU which was roughly the size of Chapter 1 was approximately 100 MB, but it was missing video cutscenes and a few characters & sets. Chapter 1 is also much smaller than Chapters 2 and 3, so you're looking at a minimum of 250-300 MB, but it would most likely be a minimum of 450-500 MB once the videos are in.
Anyway, as I said, it's not impossible for someone on dial-up to download a 500MB file, you'll just be doing a lot of pausing and resuming for a few days or maybe even a week.
SOO HAPPY I DON'T HAVE DIAL-UP ANYMORE!
*raises an Allelulia*
And Foamybrew, there was talk in an old thread of some of us acting as distributors to those who have dial-up, we'll likely be burning the game to CD or DVD and mailing it to people with dialup for free. ;)
*thinks part 1 will exceed 700 megabytes* ::)

Actually, you won't be able to do that legally without VU's permission.
Odd... o_O
You can't distribute a game that you can download free via other media for free without express permission?? That makes no sense. :P
You're not allowed to distribute period, since they only ones legally authorized is the team. As it stands, we're only permitted to distribute it electronically. Other sites and people may choose to distribute the game however they like, but they'd be doing so at their own legal risk.
I see...
Well, hopefully Vivendi will grant the team other free methods of distribution...
I appreciate Vivendi allow the KQ license to be used for this game, but it frustrates and amazes me the lengths they are going to regarding the control of the creation/distribution of this game, especially since the franchise was effectively dead, anyway. I just don't see why the free distibution of this game in hard copy form would be illegal. Perhaps because they're afraid of people selling it, but then again... the game will be available to everyone online for free, so only people completely unaware would pay money for it...
Sigh, I guess it's best not to look a gift horse in the mouth.
Just wondering if i wait until 2008 or 2009 after all 3 parts are completed would it be legal if somone would burn a copy of all 3 parts to DVD for me. And i just pay for the cost of blank DVD And Shipping and handling only?
I am only asking because i have dial up.
John
Distribution on physical media cannot be done without Vivendi's permission (that goes for us as well as for the fans).
ok then at least i have a free download manager program to pause the download just in case i get disconnected. But it will take forever to download this game ???
John
I believe I answered that question earlier in this thread:

I am not worrying about the size of the download since I have Verizon DSL. ;D ;D 8) Trust me it is worth getting DSL, it only took me one to one and a half minutes to download a 40MB file! :D
