Title: YEAH!.........
Post by: Squall Griever Leonhart on October 31, 2003, 09:00:58 PM
So who can I bribe to insure I get a part.  :P ::) ;D
I'll probably wind up as, The Insane Knight.
"POSTS!  I NEED MORE POSTS!"
Now just imagine that line said with an Austrailan accent.  How about an Middle-Eastern accent?  How about both at the same time?
Now here's a smaple of some parts:
Killer Monkey:
"I must kill.  For I am a Kiler Monkey."
Notes: Sound like a monkey.  Sound gruff  and proud.

Drug seller:
"Wanna buy some death sticks?"
Notes: Watch Star Wars Episode 2.  Now mimic the guy's voice.

Connor:
"AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!"
Notes: Sound like you're falling to your doom(Which Connor is.).  Scream as long as you can.  Longer you scream, the longer Connor falls.  ;D

Holy Flying Vomit, Batman!!!  450!!!!  CESAR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! >:(

(Mike runs and hides - too many!!!  Can't handle the pressure!  Oh, Man!  What am I going to do!?!?!? AAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!............takes another gulp of coffee.........)

JK

Yes, there are a TON, but some of those are crowd scenes so some voices can be reused.  And many of them are really teeny weeny parts.  But think about it - there's like 3 parts for every fan on this board!!!!!!!!!  WEEEE HEEE HEE HEE HEE!!!!!  I'm afraid, I'm very afraid  ;D

This is why I'm trying to get everything coordinated now, so that when it all happens, it will go smoothly.  Thankfully, since many of the parts will be from you guys online, I don't have to worry about scheduling time for you to come to my house.  You can record at your own pace (well, sort of, I'm giving everyone deadlines).

Anyway, as soon as Cesar has the completed script for me (nudge, nudge, wink, wink, poke, poke....you feel that, Cesar?), I will finally be able to see how deep in the quicksand I really am ;).

Talk with you all soon!

What makes a good microphone?  ???
Title: Re:Supah Mike's Voice Auditions Info
Post by: Oldbushie on November 03, 2003, 01:27:30 PM
A good mike should only be $20-$30, I have one of those longish ones that has a couple of extra features added to it (less noise and stuff). I'm still experimenting, but I think wind noise is reduced if you hold the mike to the side of your mouth when speaking instead of directly in front, and it should still record fine.

BTW, I like your sig Storm! ;D

Thats why I told Copycat somewhere in another thread (cant remember which) that dont worry about the availability to make it on february or whenever the voice thing is, since:

1.- I dont think all the kq9 members would make it, if so I do know only like 4 will be there :P
2.-It will be about work, not like the first meeting they did, which it was yes a friendly one :)
3.- I wont be there so wtf not fair :(!! lol :P

But... if you wanna make it... :P then ok! :D
You will have to make it too when I'll arrange one or will be able to go... :), or Ill kill yaaaaa :) !! <3 !!!

Title: Re:Supah Mike's Voice Auditions Info

Good question.  Let me look at my calendar, Cesar's calendar and Rich's calender and see when we can all get together.  In order for me to record the voices by March, I'll need to hold the auditions in January.  So right now, I'm saying the middle of January - somewhere in between the 10th - 20th.  Once I confirm with Cesar and Rich if this is at all possible, I'll schedule the auditions then.

And then I'll post them here!  :D

You'll all have to nudge Cesar and the writing team.  We need a finished script for the first part of the game.  Otherwise, I can't do the voice overs.  I want to start doing voice overs right after the auditions - mainly for those who flew, drove, swam into the city.  If I can get you guys in and out, that would be great!

If he can get me a finished script in time, I will have the auditiong on either January 8th or the 15th and may start recording some voices on the 16th.

Ok, I've gone out and bought a new microphone stand and mic screen.  I've got the software and the hardware.  Now all I need is to be a new HD so I can store all of the voice samples and I'll be all set to record the voices for the game at my house :D

Now if only Cesar could get that dialogue finished  :P ;D

You know, I just thought to ask... Mikey, you got any recommendations on where a person driving in should store their car, and how to get to your place via whatever passes for public transportation down there? I'm well versed in traversing my own city's and my hometown's bus systems, but I don't know anything about subways, or hailing taxis or anything. (Around here you call for taxis, or maybe pick one up at the bus station!)

Title: Re:Supah Mike's Voice Auditions Info
Post by: mfortunato on November 12, 2003, 09:50:18 AM
Jeysie -

Storing a car is the difficult part - because finding a park spot is a pain in the a$$.  But transportation is plentiful in the city.  I live only a block away from a subway station.  And you can catch the train pretty much anywhere.  I can easily give you directions to getting to my house.  If you drive, you'll have to leave your car parked on the street (garages will cost a fortune - it's cheaper to get a hotel for the night than it is to store your car for the night) - so make sure you have a club and an alarm - no, we really don't have much crime in our neighborhood - but I see all of the cars parked outside of my apartment have clubs (and I'm always woken up by their damn alarms going off - all because some kids are playing ball in the street - but I've never seen a broken window :)).
Where are you coming from Jeysie?

Oldbushie - you can stay at my place - providing I don't have a full house (let's say a number of you come down on a weekend to record).  I don't have THAT much room ;).  But Rich and a friend of his stayed at my place for the weekend and that worked out well.

And yes, I was originally going to rent time at a recording studio for the game.  But when Cesar showed me the amount of dialogue, I knew I'd never have enough money to do this.  I'd have to keep renting the studio every time someone came to town to record - and, if there are rewrites, they'd have to come back and record some more.  We're talking aroudn $50- 75 per hour - and that's at a friend's discounted price.  You figure it's going to take me at least 40 hours - probably more - that's a total of $2000 - 3000.  I don't know about you, but I don't have that kind of money ;).  If only we were getting paid for this - he he he.

So, this is a more-than-one-day thing that weekend? Hmm... boy, this is getting complicated! ;) Although seeing as how I've driven up and back 2.5 hours before just to go to a three-hour barbershop show, I guess it's not that big a deal. :)

So Mike, what are the prerequisites to getting a main part for the voices? I've been acting for a while and I'm soooo anxious to try out! I live in NJ and I'm not that far from NYC, so getting there shouldn't be a problem, I just need directions. Also, I'm going away on Jan 10 - 18, so
PLEASE don't schedule the recording then!!!!

Welcome! ;D

You may be out of luck for getting to auditions, as they can't be held any earlier (unless Cesar pulls the rest of his dialogues out of his butt in one night ;)) and things get really busy after January. There's always online auditions, so don't worry if you can't make it to the real auditions. Besides, I'm sure we'll all have a giant party as soon as KQ9 is done anyways, so you'll get to meet everyone then. ;)

Course I'm a bit biased myself, school starts up for me around the 20th, any later and I might have troubles getting to the auditions. Might not be too bad though, as I only have classes on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday next semester.

As long as I have a 4x6 foot spot on the floor to sleep on, I'll be fine. I can bring my sleeping bag. ;D Oh, and I checked with my dad, and he says it's okay that I go to NYC alone as long as I bring his cellphone, make sure I know exactly where I'm going, and have a definite plan of where to stay. Also, Mike, I'll pay you $25 a night board and room if there's room for me. :)
Title: Re:Supah Mike's Voice Auditions Info
Post by: mfortunato on November 14, 2003, 03:09:37 PM
Oh man!  My place is turning into a hotel.  I'm going to have people sleeping in my hallway too!  Oh boy!  Of course, if a bunch of you coordinate it, you can rent a room at a hotel here in the city and split the cost.  I'm not sure how many people I can squeeze into my apartment - we're talking a NY apartment here.

But, as far as auditions go:  Yes, it's going to be January 10th (I'm sorry, Jon.  But that's really the only date I can do it).  And it may spill over to Jan. 17th if there are TONS of people auditioning.  We are drafting an official notice with all of the info.  It will also have online audition information.  So those of you who can't make it, not to worry (that means you, Jon).  I will also take into account those who can't make it to auditions but can come to my house at another date to record - this could put you in the running for a larger role (I can just see everyone furiously looking at their calendars and bank accounts).

Oh, and you don't have to prepare anything.  Sides will be provided.  If you have a head shot and resume - great, bring it along.  If not, no biggie, the audition will be video taped (so we can remember who you are ;)).

So consider this the "unofficial" announcement.  The official will be posted as soon as the back end stuff is completed (ftp site is setup, email addresses for audition info, new HD for voice recordings ;) stuff like that)

Well, I doubt you'll have to worry about me and my roomie. The trip is a bit lengthy, but no worse than I've done before in one day. I swear, when I vacationed in Michigan for a week, I spent more time in the car than I did out of it. :P And there was the 12-hour drive to Maryland that one time, which was pretty icky. And I've driven out and back to the Boston area for an all-day barbershop convention before, which is only a slightly shorter distance, I believe. So barring a blizzard of epic proportions, we're good. So that should only leave you one extra. Well, you can stuff the smallest one in the bathtub. ;)

And it's a good thing you have two setups. Because if my roomie and I both get parts... well, you get stuck with both of us at the same time. ;D

Peace & Luv, Liz

Sounds like a plan! Though unless we have girls and guys in one hotel room ;), we may have to let the ladies stay at Mike's place. 3 people in a hotel room should be fine, I can sleep on the rollaway bed if I'm at a hotel. I'm willing to put up with a hotel, but I would prefer to stay at the house.

Who *really* *really* wants to stay at Mike's house and will not dare step forth into a hotel?

We could always send Cesar, Rich, and Harrison to the htoel. I'm sure they have plenty of money. ;D

Oh, and I think I found a ride for 100 bucks, cheaper than the airport. It just depends on whether the guy can get out of work (if he has any at the time) and whether his girlfriend will be in Connecticut.

So January 10 is definite now right?

Oops. I should have been more clear in my post... barring weather nasty enough to strand everybody, Harrison and I will likely not need any overnight lodgings at all... we can drive home, and come back the next day if necessary. (Out of curiousity, how many days will this encompass, exactly? He's requested that Friday off, and always has Saturdays off, but he works Sundays, too.)

Not to mention the fact that... Mikey may get a lot of people to this thing... at least, one hopes, or he's going to be stuck with whomever shows up. ;)

My, what have I started ::)

But you are right, KQ5 had some really bad voiceovers as well.  It wasn't until KQ6 that they hired professional actors - they learned from their mistakes and I shall learn from Tierra's mistakes ;).  Hey, I'm only saying a lot of the Tierra VOs were not very professional - but we're talking about a fan game, here.  I want our fan game to sound more professional - so I've got the whip and the brass knuckles and will use them to inspire my actors through FEAR!!!!  MWAA HAA AA HAA HAA HAA!!!! FLY MY PRETTYS, FLY!!!!!!!!  I will use the Killer Monkeys to strike fear in their hearts so their voice overs will be AMAZING!!!!! HA HA AH AHA HA HA

Honestly, I will do my best to make the acting good (gently, not violently, of course).

Hee. Well, you need to go easy on us n00bs, anyway. I've never done any acting of any sort before.

BTW, if you want bad acting, load up a program like Game Audio Player (http://bim.km.ru/gap/view.asp?id=%7B039D5BBB-8B77-4930-8859-1C48806E663C%7D) and go through KQ6's resource.sfx file. Scary is not the word for it. ;)

You know, if you guys really wanted to promote the voice auditions, you could attempt to get an article posted on http://games.slashdot.org/ . But only if you think your server could survive the possible bandwidth influx without rolling over and dying. :suffer:

I think we'd exceed our bandwidth limit in a day!  That would be a scary thing - although, that's a great way to generate buzz.  Slahdot rocks! (I'm such a geek :D)

Hee, I agree. I don't read /. religiously, but I do like to pop in every now and then to see what sort of weird stuff has popped up... especially if there's some big techie or gaming news that has happened.

On a slightly more on-topic note... how are we going to know what parts to audition for? I mean, I, for one, don't have any particular preference for a part. I plan to treat it seriously, but I'm mostly auditioning myself, one, for the sheer heck of it, and two, because it gives me something to do while tagging along with my roomie, so I wouldn't really care if I ended up as Peasant Flower Peddler #5 or something. (In fact, I'd be surprised if I did well enough to end up as anything else. :suffer: ) For two, I have absolutely no idea what part my voice would suit best. (I don't do impressions, so while I hopefully can act, when it comes to actual tonality, you're sorta stuck with what's natural to me.)

Is there going to be help for us complete n00bs? :suffer:

Peace & Luv, Liz

When we audition, are we going to be told what "voice" to recite the lines in?  (like what the mood of the speaker should be when speaking those lines).  That would help i think, since you're get a more accurate "reading" one who is the best suited for that...

I still can't wait to hear the Rosella voice...did you record something so I can hear it??

And man, online auditions - whoa! I've got at least, like, 4 or 5 friends who've expressed interest in it to me, and likely more that don't even know about it yet. Including a girl! An actual girl! Yay!

(We had far too few females at the auditions, for those wondering why this is a big deal.)

When's that info going up again??

Mike,

I've found a perfect contestant for the upcoming auditions next saturday. The friend - Tjalle - I was hanging out with in NYC (introduced himself at the auditions) was staying with his nephews on 14th street. One of his nephews is a great kq-fan, and has played all of them as a kid (he's a lawyer now, go figure ;) ). I guess he's very interested in applying for the auditions. According to Tjalle he's very good in impersonating Arnold Schwarzenegger (he kinda looks like him too). Maybe he'll have a great voice for one of the guards. And since he has an appartment in Chelsea, it wouldn't be much of a problem for him to attend. I don't have his emailaddress yet, but I'll let you know as soon as possible once Tjalle is back in The Netherlands.

Just letting you know I'm still there in spirit ;)

Mike, this is Joseph Balaj, just wanted to say thanks for having me at audition and allowing me to audition. It was a great experience and I enjoyed very much. I'm looking forward to what lies in store for this awesome game and can't wait to play it when its released.

Hello Mike & Company:

Star Foster here.  I just wanted to echo Joseph's sentiments.  Thanks for the opportunity to audition.  I enjoyed the experience immensely!  You guys were very kind. :)

Being a gamer, I too look forward to seeing the finished project.

Cheers,
Star

Hello again and welcome to the boards Star & Joseph!!!  Hope you stick around here, it's a fun time  ;D

I'm Katie (one of the writers, and the only girl on the 'review board' as it were, from Saturday).  You both very well, and we were glad to have you audition! We're excited too :)

Cesar's singing? Yikes! :o  Heheh ;)

Welcome Joseph & Star!  :D  I personally haven't seen any flying fruits in a while, but I have seen a killer Mango in the NYC Pics (http://www.postudios.com/blog/forum/index.php?action=display;board=2;threadid=679;start=20#msg15482) thread.   ;D

Bow down to my great Robertaness or feel the wrath of the killer Mango hybrids, each with skillz far superior to that of your flesy, boney human bodies.  WRATH!
