Title: Roberta Williams
Post by: altair on November 06, 2003, 11:31:22 AM
Has Roberta Williams been involved in the process of coming up with the story line at all?  Does she support this new version of her game?

She hasn't contributed at all I don't think, but she hasn't tried to stop us either. Besides, I beleive she's retired now anyways so she's not officially in Sierra anymore.

Roberta Williams as very well bushie mentioned, has not been involved at all in the process of the game making, not even plotwise, or structure wise, or anything at all. She does knows (as well as Ken) about this project since we've more than a year on the development of it, their commentary about us its a bit vague since they do know about us but then again they havent openly said wether they would support it or not. Ken did made a comment about kq9 on his website some months ago.
Since Cesar does has more real info about this, I'll try to get him to post here.

I'm not sure if Roberta was shown the plot, but I recall Cesar showing an e-mail from her that said that she does support our project.  She isn't involved with the actual creation of KQ9 though, which means she'll only see the game when all of you guys do.  :)

Even if she didn't like this project, she could do nothing to stop us. Only Sierra/Vivendi can do that, since they (still) have the legal rights to KQ.
Besides, if Roberta were involved, I think it would attract way too much attention from Sierra/Vivendi and I'm not sure she can (legally speaking) work on a KQ-game.

Like Yonkey said, Roberta emailed us once expressing her support for our project and wishes us the best of the lucks. I read recently, in the sierragamers forums (from Ken himself) that Ken has told her several times that she should help us out, but that she doesn't want to because we have our design an idea of what we want to do, and getting another designer could mean troubles, especially when she designed the series.

Basically, Roberta doesn't want a "too many cooks spoiling the broth" kind of thing.  Her vision may be very different from ours and she doesn't want to influence our ideas.  It's our show and she wants us to run it.  I think that's incredibly cool.

When you guys finish are you going to try and send her a link to see if she notices fans still love her series, or are you afraid of shutdown =X

The Williamses know what we are doing and are very supportive, although they are not going to be actively helping with the game in any way. They're looking forward to what lurks in the mind of Cesar.  :suffer:

I didn't personally, but the team did, yes. :) I'm sure we'll definitely thrill them with the result.

Wow, do you think Ken or Roberta will ever become a member of this forum.  If they did, then I think that would be really, really cool

dew,

I don't think they would, they're both constantly so busy with everything (specially in their own site) but I guess is nice to wonder!

amarinda,

Cesar would be the right person to answer that because he's the one that has addressed the letters/emails to Roberta as well as talked to Ken too. That's how we, the team, know what they think about us.

Hey guys,

We heard from Roberta early in the project. It was a really heartwarming and supporting email. She was very pleased with the idea of us continuing her legacy, and wished us the best of lucks.

I've also had personal contact with Ken as I was kind of involved in a project with him a couple of months ago. During that time, I got to talk to him quite a bit, and I had the chance to show him some of the work we've done. He was truly amazed at everything he saw and asked us if we had ever thought of publishing the game as it looked it could be a hit.

:)

I think they both have been very kind towards the project, Ken in particular because he did get to talk much more with Cesar, and obviously Cesar shared tons of ideas (I also believe material?) with him, so he could manage to shape a much proper idea of what we're for. We're very glad they've been so positive about us, even though that they are not involved whatsoever with us or the project.

I am a bit disappointed that Sierra thought the KQ series was no longer interesting to gamers when they came out with KQ8.  I mean KQ8 was in ugly 3d, and wasn't really an adventure game.  It was the first in the series to use; 3d graphics, action, fighting, and someone that's not even a heir.  That seems pretty stupid to be honest.    I mean they change the game drastically from the past games, and expect fans to be pleased?  That's the only reason why the series died, was because they changed the game almost entirely. It turned into something different, thinking they would be able to appeal to a new fresh hip audience.

Now that it's off my chest I feel better.  I'm just happy real fans are remaking this as if its a professional game.  Too bad you guys can't sell this game under the permission of Roberta Williams.  I think it would have great profits.  I mean what games out there take this many years to be created?  The quality is going to surpass most games you pay for.

Heh, you're reviving a lot of old board today, Neil. Who wants to read these smelly old things, anyway? :P

But I gotta say, having the creators's support is wonderful. ;) I mean, who needs the company when you can have the fans and creators?! And anyway, this way we get it for free!!  :suffer:

So I guess we can consider the game pseudo-official or even official if the original creators support it and like it. BTW, has anyone ever noticed that KQ7 was written soley by Lorei Shannon, while it was designed by her and Roberta.
