Trains
The trains float softly through the meadow lighting on a lilly leaf
The trains are big and cool and shiny but not as cool as mote's teef
The trains climb moutains and sour to new hieghts
They dance and prance in gilded tights
The trains complain of lack of coal
Of times of new, and times of old
The trains they think and feel and die
and when they die the trains do cry
But lilting tears, that echo throughout
Ne'er cease to bring trains back and shout
"Hooray! Hooray! You've saved me today!"
"You brave little train with smoke stacks, I pray"
"That you use your powers for the good of all men"
"and someday save other trains again."
With that the little train was happier than e'er
He was warm with joy like a kitten in a sweater.
He spread that joy all over the lands,
Through words, and actions, though he had no hands
Someday you may see him chugg-a-luggin through the woods
With a merry smile and a sack full of goods
He'll wink at you, and you'll wink back.
And as he chugs into the sunset with a clickity clack.

We have so many train tracks here, it's almost impossible not to go anywhere without having to cross them!

There are some over 600 metre long.

I tend to think upon this thread too whenever I see trains. :P
I lost my cellphone to the traintracks when it fell between train cars last weekends. I'm a bumbling fool. Luckily it wasn't an expensive phone and I ordered a new one from the same company(T-mobile) after canceling the lost one. But my new one is RED and is supposed to come today. TRAINS.
I have seen neither train nor train tracks for five days now, and I won't be seeing them today either.
is thinking about posting a picture of a train or a train track so Delling sees a train (track) :P

(some) TRAIN drivers have been on strike Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve. Guess why... ::) :P
I need to cross some TRAIN tracks every day. If I pass it before quarter past the hour, I shouldn't have to wait. If I pass it from quarter past the hour to 15 minutes later, there's a big chance I'll get stuck waiting for a TRAIN to pass.
A few weeks ago I had to wait for three trains passing, and there were only two tracks.
It's been a while since I last rode the TRAIN... ::)
Belgium is the country with the densest railroad-tracks, if you get my drift, apparently. ;D

Gasp! You violated the rule of the train thread! :o
At least the other people who didn't actually say thread quoted someone who said it. tsk, tsk... murderer or not (apparently not, sorry about that :P), you broke the train thread rule... granted it has no implied punishments, just thought I'd call attention to it... ;P
Well...I was referring to a train...thus it was implied. :)

Oh, and technically the rule is:

You forget the principal of laziness whereby I'm too lazy to quote the rule but rather referred to how I felt the rules had been applied... much like how the US Constitution is never referenced literally so much as "I think the founding fathers meant this..." (seriously, it's amazing the credit we give them for being intelligent capable people and yet constantly say that we know what they were trying to say better than they were able to communicate ::))...which isn't to say it's a "good" thing... it's just a common and sloppy and lazy thing...

The Tube was actually pretty nice compared to the crappy subways we have around here. :P I think it was only cramped & crowded during rush hour, but that's the same anywhere you go.
The Heathrow Connect train was much better though. And the Eurorail ruled! XD
I hate the tube. You can barely move on it.
Mind you, I'm not a fan of London, haha.
Pffft....Who cares if it's cramped, at least it's CLEAN. You can't slam a train truly till you've been on a New York City subway.
lol, what happened to TRAINS? :P
Well, subways are kinda like trains, but underground, no? :D
They are for most intents and purposes trains (I say "most" because there are always those people who like to argue who would argue that they are not trains with the intention being to argue... and so for such intentions, we'll just cut them off with "most" :P)
People sidetracked the TRAINS with the tubes.

When the train thread reaches 100 pages, will the TRAIN Thread #2 adhere to the TRAIN thread rule?
I'd love to see the TRAIN thread reach 100 pages! I'm still surprised that it carried on as long as this!
If it does, and we have a sequel thread, then I think it will do so, certainly!
*pops head in* Train!

That's an AMAZING train!
And I honestly don't know how, asides from the aforementioned "crazy" explanation, there are 22 pages of train.
.. In fact, crazy explains it quite nicely!
Soon, there will probably be 23 pages of TRAIN :D
Actually, Nebel, you started the 23rd page of TRAINS :P
Ha, yeah :D I didn't even realize that. I'm not sure if it's the same TRAIN as on the last page, but this one is 28 m long :o

uhh Train?
That TRAIN is holding up all the traffic!
it was a very nice looking train.
Tr..tr..train!
Hooray for TRAIN!
Indeed! Huzzah for TRAINS!
Saturday and sunday I went to a fantasy event by train.
I went to a concert in Rotterdam yesterday evening (Ruins Alone, Acid Mothers SWR, etc) by TRAIN :D
I've not been anywhere by TRAIN in months!
I haven't been to anywhere by train since September!
I've never been on a real moving train, unless amusement park trains count.
The train man trains the trains to run on thyme but trains cannot be trained to run on time.
They tested a car for a train
http://www.dumpert.nl/mediabase/86821/ad429dee/tank_deukt_ian.html
I guess they're going to have to change several things about that thing, otherwise it'll never be on a train :D
How many trains does it take to screw in a lightbulb?
None... trains can't possibly screw in a light bulb... their turn radius is too enormous!... now given a near-circular track and the assistance of a mechanical arm... we could get it done with one... it may take more depending on the terrain... but then we would also need additional mechanical arms and it would be a problem...

Sounds complicated. At this point I would be asking how many light bulbs it would take to successfully screw one in without breaking it. :-X
With trains...there's no telling :P

How did I know who said that without looking at the tag? XD
Assuming the terrain had at least one point where the arm could reach it and turn it even a little, you could in theory still do it with one by just having the arm release the bulb when it moved away from it. That would remove the need for a circular track and multiple trains, though you might have to make a lot of circuits. :)
I think trains were deprived of mechanical arms for a reason, you know..
EDIT: 1800 posts! WHOO!
Congrats Mango!
Now, was that "Whoo!" the sound that the train made? Or was it you? :P
Maybe it was both...
I wonder if this train will ever stop...
Only when the Internet dies.
No! We'll remember this TRAIN when we see a TRAIN even if the internet TRAIN has stopped coming through the TRAIN station.
All aboard the bullet train on track 23! :bob:
*boards the TRAIN*
*boards train too*
Maybe I should figure out what the Chattanooga Choo Choo is, since I might be headed that direction this weekend XD
To me, it sounds like a train :P
If everyone at this stop is on the train, we will be departing from the station. Tickets, please! :)

*points* Wow, look at that TRAIN!
I have an annual ticket for the TRAIN. :D
tomorrow I go by train to my parents home. Yes it's the scary train :P
Alright, here we go!
*Looks for the train's whistle, then remembers that it's a bullet train*
Well, at least we shouldn't have any train robberies with the speed we're going...
*frantically runs to try and catch the train*
First me, then the train. Then the pair of us simultaneously, like some angelic harmony.
*rides the train to the next stop*
*The train stops at the Asylum, under close guard to keep people from escaping from the TRAIN into the Asylum*
Well I'll just stay on the TRAIN then and not go to the Asylum!
*throws pie in the Asylum windows from the train*
Where should the train go next? :)
Yonkey Isle!
Does it connect to Booty Island? :P
Alright, we're taking the underwater tunnel to Yonkey Isle. All aboard! :bob:
No water can get in the tunnel, right?
Of course not, otherwise, there wouldn't be much point in having a tunnel. :P

It's great to see so much TRAINERY going on here!
I have to TRAIN my skills in Oblivion now that I don't have to TRAIN my BRAIN for finals.
I don't think sub-trained marines would be very effective.
We'll be coming up out of the tunnel soon. Please let the TRAIN personnel know if your have the bends. :P
*jumps onto the TRAIN from a seahorse*
Don't ask how I got through the tunnel wall. It's magic.
I KNEW there were holes in that tunnel!
We have arrived at Yonkey Isle! This TRAIN is stopping here for the weekend while the tunnel is repaired (due to a certain seahorse).
Oooh, can we make a people TRAIN and conga along the beach?
*joins the conga train*
Ooo! *congas with the others*
We now have a Conga TRAIN of three! AWESOME.
I saw a train the other day with about fifty cars. :) Couldn't count them as there was too much stuff in the way. :(
Good news! The tunnel has been repaired, so the TRAIN can depart again! Where should we go before Yonkey notices?
Holland?
A TRAIN to HOLLAND??!
Sounds good unless anyone else has any suggestions?
Let's take the train to Holland :D
To HOLLAND then! Onward! *congas*
Conga train to HOLLAND! WHOO!
Yay, welcome here! :D
But where is here? Do we go by train to Amsterdam, Rotterdam Den Haag or maybe Utrecht? You can go almost anywhere by train here in Holland.
Goes Friday by train to a fantasy event.
I think there is an Amtrak route between Grand Rapids and Chicago but that's about it. :P Trains are not used that much in the US, at least not for people.
EDIT: When I say US I mean the Midwest US, which is the only part I am very familiar with. The East Coast or California might be a whole different kettle of fish.
thats treu. In the US you hardly find any trains. Only metro/subway. If I move there I have lots of work to do by creating a railroad network to conect all the cities/states.
Alas that's the problem icarus, civilization is built up in such a way in my home state of NJ there's no room to put in a decent system where you can take the train everywhere you wanna go. There's about 6 different lines here and they don't all connect so generally I find it impossible to use it to get where they go. And some places you can't get to by train at ALL. I do however always use the train to get to NYC and the subway there to get all around.
they could always make the railroad underground in the city and outside the sity above the ground. The trouble is the enourmous cost to drill holes/tunnels for the train.
WOW, I can just imagine the cost to put the train in the entire state underground. I don't live in a city and generally wouldn't use the TRAIN here to go to cities. There's towns I'd like to be able to get to by TRAIN, but can't.
*Decorates the TRAIN with tulips*
Let's buy some traditional wooden shoes and attempt a dance around a bonfire!
.. Isn't there something a bit worrying about having wooden shoes near a flame of any sort?
Not if the woud is of the kind that hardly gets fire.
3 more days before TRAIN!!!! :D
Plus if your shoes are on fire, that'll REALLY make you dance... :suffer:

Maybe... it does... maybe we should set up a Train Tribunal to decide what does and does not constitute a train for the purposes of this thread...:P
Yeah, because does the monorail at Disney World count as a train? Cause if it does, it's my FAVORITE TRAIN. XD
Monorails should count as TRAINS since they have a track of sorts, I think. But yeah, a list of what is and isn't a TRAIN may help.
Does this count as TRAIN?

With the covers pulled up tight

That's when you hear it coming
That is when you hear the humming of the
Starlight Express, Starlight Express,
Are you real, yes or no?
Starlight Express, answer me yes.
I don't want you to go.
Want you to take me away
But bring me home before daylight
And in the time between
Take me to everywhere
But don't abandon me there
Just want to say I've been.
I believe in you completely
Though I may be dreaming sweetly of the
Starlight Express, answer me yes.

And if you know
Then show me which way
I should go.

How did your snakey-train game turn out, Tessy?
Pretty good except for one big bug that screws it all up. I just didn't put the time into it to fix it; more worried about getting our huge semester-long game working (which I just spent the last 8 hours working on with my group :sweating:)

If you turn the head car, and then turn it again really fast so that the second car doesn't get a chance to finish turning, that second car, and all the ones following it, never do the second turn and go out of control, if that makes any sense at all.

My group's doing a puzzle/adventure game. The story is you're shipwrecked on an island that's part of an archipelago, and you have to get the materials you need to build a raft to get to the next island by playing the mini-games. Each island requires a bigger boat to get to the next island.
So far we have:
(I ended up doing the graphics, I can't draw people worth anything XD)
When you run into the bamboo, you get to play tic tac toe:
If you win, you get bamboo put into your inventory.
We're writing the engine this game runs on, and after we finish this big game we have to write a smaller, much quicker game that runs off the same engine to show that you can use the engine to write different games.
It's been a
lot of work, but it's a fun class and I've learned a lot already.
We're using C# and XNA.

I took a computer programming class in college, but it was pretty lame. It was mostly FORTRAN (in which lines are limited to 80 characters because that was the width of punch cards!), then some Pascal, and then they talked about C for a couple of class periods.
I wish I had taken more programming classes. *sigh* :(

You need to train to buy a ticket and which train to take so you don't end up on the wrong track.

Haha man! Where you going? XD
TRAIN TRAIN TRAIN TRAIN!!!!!!
I'm heading up to Rich's house in Montreal. XD Katie & Mike are heading up tomorrow. 8)
It's pretty cool to be browsing the forums while on a train, but the connection is extremely slow. :-\
I almost TRAIN thought that you TRAIN made a TRAIN post in this TRAIN thread that didn't TRAIN have the TRAIN word "train" in TRAIN it.
When I was visiting Vancouver, I rode the Sky TRAIN for the first time! :D
In HBP, Harry got his nose smashed aboard the TRAIN.
Sounds like getting on a TRAIN requires TRAINing? :suffer:
Yes I think TRAIN riding does require a bit of TRAINING. I have only been on one TRAIN in my life.
I found what looks to be a really good program for vocal TRAINing! :D
*was just thinking about TRAINs and thus the TRAIN thread*
What's a TRAIN?
A TRAIN, of course! :o
I lost my train of thought.
Hop on the gravy train.
I'm also amused that the TRAIN thread continues to get resuscitated - just shows everyone's love for TRAINS!
Here in the Seattle 'burbs we have a lot of TRAIN tracks all over the place. All the coal mining done here had a requirement for TRAINS.
Anseo ata na traenacha ann.
~~
Here there be trains.
In September I started TRAINing in TaeKwon-Do! :D
