Title: Singing
Post by: mfortunato on November 07, 2003, 12:19:42 PM
I thought that Cesar sounded like an old female fart! ;)

I'm totally kidding Cesar.  But the voice over was hilarious.  And it takes a lot of cajones to do that and send it to all of us - knowing we're going to take malicious glee in making fun of it  ;D
I can't wait to hear the next iteration (Cesar - when are you going to sing for us???? - Cesar and I can do a duet - that would be frightening.)

We could start a barbershop quartet!! ;D
Cesar will be the soprano of course. ;)

We could start a barbershop quartet!! ;D
Cesar will be the soprano of coures. ;)

Tenor, you mean. :) Although it's usually the baritone that is the really weird one. The tenor is usually the clueless one. ;) Of course, a KQ9 barbershop quartet would make my roommate happy... ;D

Ok, ok. We'll leave him alone then. After all, his singing can't be that bad yet as I haven't seen glass shattering worldwide... ;)

The tenor is usually the clueless one.

Hey!  I'm a tenor!  And I take offense to you calling all tenors clueless!   :P

Now you don't get to hear me sing with Cesar ;)  (the forums breathe a collective sigh of relief)

Hee. Aw, don't feel bad. I mean, that's just usually. Sometimes the baritone is clueless, and the tenor is the weird one! ;D

Hey, can anyone sing in this thread? Muahahaha.

Me:

Jeysie will sing for you!

My roomie's old quartet:

Don't Whizz

My roomie:

Java Jive clip

Sesame Street (He does the "You may or may not know this part..." solo near the end.

I love my roomie, he's such a cutie. :)

(Now Mike is probably scared about having to have us at his auditions. ;D)

I'll see if I can find something of me singing and post a link.

Here's one that some of you have heard.  I'm a little flat in it but i have nothing else recorded of me.  It's the first time I sang the damn song too, but for the most part I don't think I sound that badly in it:

Who'd have guessed, Alex (corrected from original post - I said oldbushie - I need sleep), you're a member of N'Sync!!!!  98 Degrees?  Back Street Boys?

I want to hear more!!!!  It sounds very professional.  Which singer were you?  Did you get to do any of the riffing toward the end?  What equipment did you guys use?  Maybe we'll have you guys do the voice over recording ;) he he he
Title: Re:Singing
Post by: Jeysie on November 11, 2003, 11:06:49 AM
Hee. It's Alex that was in the boy band thing, not 'Bushie, Mike. Unless I missed something. ;)

And what, no love for the barbershoppers? ;) OK, OK, I went for kooky instead of quality. I'll have to upload some of my roomie's good stuff. :)

Peace & Luv, Liz

HA HA HA, Jeysie!!!  I didn't realize those were links in your post.  I never clicked on them!!!!  There's just too much to read in these forums!!!!!

btw - you sound sexy :).  You'll definitely be used in the game.

And I loved the Whizz song!!!  That's one of the funniest barbershop songs I've ever heard!!!  It's brilliant!  I'm not a fan of the barbershop sound, but those lyrics were hilarious and your roomie and his friends harmonize very well together.

Don't tell him, though, that the sesame street one, someone keeps going flat. ;)

Is your roomie a baritone or a tenor?
Title: Re:Singing
Post by: KatieHal on November 11, 2003, 01:19:52 PM
So, if I don't play Alex, I'll give myself a small role (In a Mid-Eastern, Californian accent "Welcome to my shop of delights, King Graham!  Would you like to partake in a pecan pie?")

I'm hearing Apu saying this for some reason! haha

I'll try to listen to those other links at home later...but I have heard Mike's voice and it's AWESOME!  ;D  I love singing too, myself, but I don't have anything recorded of me. I haven't done anything really but sing in my car with the radio since I graduted college, where I used to be in the Chorale.

BTW, singing types - try the new Playstation 2 game Karaoke Revolution.  Awesome game!! Same people who make Dance Dance Revolution, which is also tons of fun. :)

:::NOTE::: To hear these I'm afraid you have to right click and do Save as. My web space doesnt like linking apparently!

hahaha backstreet boys! Believe me that comment would make one of the band members very happy to hear ;)

Mike your voice is just amazing! You ever audition for phantom? Bet you'd get it hehe. I've already told Jeysie how cool her teapot song is and the nice sarcastic comments near the beggining just make me crack up hehe. Oldbushie, yours was very soulful indeed! Get a backing on there and upload it again  ;D

well heres the rest of what we've(band) done and the above song in full.

www.acsauk.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/Dont_be_shy.wma - I've got the first verse on this and then I'm on the chorus's and bridges(background mostly :P)

www.acsauk.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/Just_be_Straight_with_me.mp3 - Well you've heard this already but now you can hear the ace guitar solo near the end. The only solo parts on this I've got are ad libs on the second chorus and then backing on the rest of chorus's and bridges etc

www.acsauk.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/Take_this_pain_away.wma - This one I had a rather bad throat on the day we went to the studio so I'm just doing backing on the bridges and chorus's. There might be a few ad libs thrown in too but I'm not 100% sure

We're going definately more towards rock now anyway, pop just doesnt cut it anymore (Plus i hate this type of music with all my guts  ;D)

EDIT: HAHAHAHA I've just listened to Jeysie's again and that speaking part at the beggining is tooooooooo funny!

"isn't this exciting!!!!"
Title: Re:Singing
Post by: Oldbushie on November 11, 2003, 03:29:52 PM
What do you mean by backing? Background music? I'm not sure how to put that in, I might have to make a midi for the song as it's a bit hard to find the song as it is. :P I'm not a pro at making extravagant music on the computer yet. ;)
Title: Re:Singing
Post by: mfortunato on November 11, 2003, 03:34:26 PM
I really like your voice, oldbushie!  It's so soothing.  The song is beautiful too.  Thank you for sharing that.

This is becoming so much fun!!!!  I want to hear more people's music!!!!

btw - oldbushie and Jeysie - believe or not, the mics you are using are high enough quality to use for voice in the game.  See - that wasn't so hard, now was it?  So if you can't make it to NY, you've got everything you need to record at home! :)

I'm going to listen to Alex's songs now!

I'm giddy!  I'm loving this!!!!  More! More!  I promise I'll upload more too.

I just bought a mic stand and mic screen (the ones I had have been lost to a theatre company - luckily my mics weren't).  So now I can record songs properly. :D
Title: Re:Singing
Post by: Drunken Chinchilla on November 11, 2003, 03:39:47 PM
yeah Bushie, just a nice Midi backing for it, theres usually MIDI sites for any type of music you could think of so you wouldn't even have to make it your self. Also if you can find a copy of or demo of Cool edit pro 2 (or any sound editing software for that matter) You could make it sound proprer professional and combine the midi in with the MP3 of the singing.

Well,I do have a mic on my computer Jeysie (btw I didn't know that was how to pronounce your name before!), but I don't have a place to upload.

Highly enjoyed the teapot song, very nice! :)

I couldn't get others to work  :-\
Title: Re:Singing

Alex - you guys sound professional!  However, I too, do not like boy-band songs.  Let's hear some of the ROCK!  Now that I'd really like!

Speaking of rock, if I can get some good quality karaoke songs I'll sing some more "rock"-type tunes.  It's hard for me, but I love singing it.  My voice leans toward musical theatre and now I've been learning opera songs and my voice teacher is convinced I'm an operatic tenor.  Who knows?

Of course, I only know show tunes, operas, and 80's rock!  But there are some really good shows that came out in the 80's.  Let me see if I can find Pity the Child from Chess.  If I don't burst a lung singing it, I'll post it up on this.

Damn this is fun!!!

I wanna hear more!  Let's hear Say and Cesar sing!  ;D

Hehe its going to be some time before we make any rock tracks, I need to learn how to play the guitar properly first! Its very hard after learning the keyboard and piano, I keep finding my self trying to compare all the frets to individual piano keys and getting confused!

Yes! I liked it too, 'Bushie. :)

(chuckle) They're my roomie's mics, actually. I don't think me and my roomie will have a problem getting to NYC. Although if I did record something at my house, I'd use his 'puter... my sound card doesn't seem to want to record anything without an underlying hiss to it. :P

Well,I do have a mic on my computer Jeysie (btw I didn't know that was how to pronounce your name before!), but I don't have a place to upload.

Well, if the resultant file isn't more than a couple MB, e-mail it to me, and I'll upload it to some of my webspace for ya. :)

And... for some reason everyone always wants to pronounce my nick "Jessie". I never quite understood how one could get "Jess" out of "Jey", but maybe I'm the weird one. ;D

Of course, I only know show tunes, operas, and 80's rock!

Hee, nothing wrong with that! I haven't heard much opera, but I love oldies, show tunes, and 80's stuff.

Peace & Luv, Liz

It'd be fun, but I hate listening to recordings of my voice, so trying to playing the game with my voice in it would freak me out! :suffer:

I have the same dilemma  :-\
But I'm sure in my case it would be solved by Mike giving me the "don't call us, we won't call you" shove out the online audition's door after he hears my voice sample  ::)
Title: Re:Singing
Post by: Jeysie on November 11, 2003, 10:05:14 PM
OK, my roomie was in a creative mood tonight, and wanted to get into the voice trading craze. 'Cause he doesn't know I uploaded all these songs for you guys. ;D But anyway. Not really singing, but definitely kooky. Sorry they're a little redundant, but we couldn't pick one of the two we liked best. :) (Hint, Mike, there's more links here! ;D)

(links go happy bye-bye)

Oh, and I played Mike's song for my roomie. His commentary on the matter was something along the lines of "That man is God's gift to barbershop leads!" So be careful, Mike, he may kidnap you after the auditions are over and make you sing barbershop. :suffer:

Hmm. Are you sure you've got your computer set to record from the microphone? Volume Control-Options-Properties-Recording-Microphone select box Check that, and uncheck everything else.

Damn, Jeysie - your roomate sounds sexy too ;)  You both sound secsay!

He better be auditioning - with a voice like that, we can use him everywhere!!!!!

OLDBUSHIE - 45 SEC!  I can't hold a note for S**T - well, not in the last few months anyway.  I'm having some vocal technical difficulties.  Sometimes I have breath for days and sometimes I can barely get through a simple phrase.  Looking back on what I just wrote, I realized that I rhymed.  ;D

Now I want to hear the voice behind the face of Ronald Weasely!  Let's get Katie's mic working!

What sound card do you have, Katie?

Hmm. Odd, they sound fine to me. Are you actually listening to them from Opera itself? You might be better off setting Opera up to pass the file to a seperate sound player when it's done downloading.

Oh, and nice hanger! Now, learn to do that full voice, and you'll be a top-notch barbershopper yet! :)

And, thank you Harrison.  I'm not so sure my voice would be right for barbershop.  And to be honest, while I love the tight harmonies of barber shop (and I'm very good at holding the correct pitches), I'd probably end up beating up the tenor - I can't stand that whiny Irish tenor sound - it sometimes hurts my ears.  I know it's the style, but I just have never liked it.

But I LOVE WHIZZ!  And you, Harrison, have an excellent voice.......will you be available to record in NYC?  Or only over the web?

That goes for Jeysie and oldbushie as well.  Alex, I know you're in the UK, it would be a bit difficult.

Of course, now that I know what you sound like, the next step is - can you act? - he he he

Oh, and after reading your post and seeing your last name, he says he likes you even better because you're also Italian. ;)

Molto Bene!  Grazie, Harrison!  Parle Italiano?
I certainly don't ;).  But I learned a few words and phrases while in Italy a few years ago.  I fell in love with Rome.  It's just beautiful and everyone is so friendly and so relaxed - well, except for the drivers, they're insane.  Interesting "fact" - if you have to cross the street in Rome, just keep your head facing the direction you want to go and walk.  Do NOT look at the drivers, or they WILL hit you!  It's really strange.  They stop for you if you aren't looking at them.....perhaps when you look at them, they think you are going to stop for them so they keep on going and WHAM!!!  I saw it happen - of course, all of the cars are mini and there's so much traiffic they can't drive very fast, so the person who was hit was just a little pissed, but not at all hurt.  Wacky, weird stuff.

Anyhoo. It's all because my choice of "I'm a Little Teapot" melted your brains. :suffer: One of my online friends claimed it melted hers. ;) (The others all reported various reactions of either spilling liquids or snorting said liquids out their mouths/noses. Ah, my work here is done.)

I'm a little slow on the posting, here.  Been ridiculously busy!

Anyway, Alex, I'm listening to the new music.  I'm digging it.  Definitely a good direction to go in.  No more boy band for you guys.  This sounds fantastic!

I know you are worried about variation, but you can do a lot with vocals for this tune.  It sounds very much like a rock'n roll love song.  I dig it!

My only question - do you have a live drummer?  These drums sound synthesized (and I apologize if they are real drums - I don't know much about drumming, other than I have terrible rhythm - perhaps your drummer has an uncanny sense of rhythm  ;))
Title: Re:Singing
Post by: Drunken Chinchilla on February 18, 2004, 02:45:12 PM
Just about to PM you Katie...

Yeah mike the drums are synthesised atm :/ Obviously when we actually become a band again (we're down to 2 people now) we'll get a drummer in. The main thing with the band tho is that neither me or Chris are amazing on the guitar (Heheh ok I have next to no guitar skills :D) or bass so atm all we've really got decent instrument wise is keys which would be moi. Vocals are sorted but I'm worried we may turn into a :shudder: busted group (all Americans who have not heard the annoying gits can do so here: http://www.busted.com/ )

SO the song will probably transform sooner or later with loads of other stuff added, although I do like our most recent effort about a girlfriend having an affair with a teacher at school.

What a gorgeous voice you have! And the song, I like, I like!!! Your friends a very gifted composer indeed, I love the fact the accompniant can work with just piano. I'm very impressed indeed. Any more hits coming from the chicks who dont play poker then?

EDIT: oh yeah one more thing, I didn't expect your voice to sound like that for some reason! I thought you'd have a rough (in a good way) voice, gravly like. No idea why at all hehe.

Wow! :o Really nice! :D

I'll be by your side
Your blade in my hand
Together we'll die
Together we'll stand

I'll be by your side
My shield at your back
Together we'll defend
Together we'll attack

Yeah, I love the chorus/bridge she came up with - it's an "epic" song. ;-)

Aww yay! Glad you like! :D It was fun recording it - haha, sorry I don't have the sexy gravely voice, Alex ;-)

The "wind" is mostly us being too close to the mic. Unfortunately, her setup isn't *quite* as nifty and professional looking as Mike's (for those of you who saw it), but more like...a keyboard, comuter and computer microphone. And music program for recording and mixing. Hmm..maybe I'll see about getting some kind of cool mic for her for her birthday.

Anyhow, glad you like! The second verse-set (after the first "I'll be by your side") is what I wrote. The rest was her. Oh! And we called ourselves "Chicks Who Don't Play Poker" (the guys in the house were playing at the time, soo..you get the idea).

This is so awesome!  You didn't tell me you can sing, Katie.  And this song is just beautiful.  And the two of your voices blend so well.  There are times when you're singing together and it sounds like there is one person singing with a chorus effect added to their effect.  It's excellent!  Has Caesar heard this yet?  I'm sure it will give him ideas :P  He'll add yet another song to KQ - he he he.

Random songs, songs of my own or others creation (though the ones other people make tedn to be better, hehe), and I sand in chorus in HS and Chorale in college. I miss it! Now it's just mostly my car that gets a good listenin'. ;-)

Oops......did I say song?!?!?!?  Well, honestly, it's not definite.  A tentative song has been written, but I can't guarantee it will be in the game (or in the end credits).  Because the music really hasn't been written yet.  The music won't be written until the game is near completion so that the composer knows exactly how to choreograph the music to the actions on screen.

So, right now, there's just ideas.  Nothing set in stone.  We'd like the song to be there, but we can't guarantee anything.  And NO, KQIX is not going to be a musical.  There's no way I'm becoming musical director too - we still haven't gotten the voice recordings started yet!!!!!  But soon, very soon.

This thread is basically just a showcase for us forum people with actual singing talent. *cough*notice how I haven't submitted anything*couth* :P

Personally I don't know if Mike's looking for singers, but we will be starting Online Auditions soon.  If you would like to sing a few bars with your audition, feel free to do so!  :D

Here it is…don’t laugh.  First of all, I had no music, so it’s accapello  (spelling horrible, I know)…second of all, my roommate could not time the recording well, due to her overdose of heroine (just kidding, she told me to type that) so that accounts for some of the jumps in the song.  Thirdly, I’m recovering from strep, so I’m not at my best (that, and the fact, I haven't had voice lessons, so it's pretty rough).  Where I go flat in the song…sounds a LOT better with the music, but I promise, those are the notes hit!  (If you don’t like it, my roommate says she will hunt you down, put you in three separate shoeboxes, and ship you to three different parts of the world…excluding those native to the UK).

I've added a second song, kinda playing around with headphones to do a duet.  DON'T LAUGH

Title: Re:Singing

The way I approach the situation is just thinking well I know that I/my work/whatever is good so as long as thats firmly set in my mind I really couldn't give a flying f*** what anyone else thinks! Obviously to totally ignore peoples criticisms of you/your work/whatever is stupid as usually no matter how exaggerated and out of order they may be there's usually some truth in them and if thats the case then you just have to dilute it with a huge pinch of salt...thats me anyway :D

Well, aside from the fact that I really am a horrible perfectionist who's never happy with my performances... :P ...I see it as a way of hedging my bets. If I claim I'm lousy, either people can agree, and I can say "See, I told you I sucked" and just mostly laugh it off and not look *too* bad, or people can say, "No, you're good" and be all happy, and I can be surprised. It's really much safer. ;)

Title: Re:Singing

You see, that's the difference between us. If someone tells you "No, you're good", you'd be happy about it. If someone tells me "No, you're good" I'd try to show him how wrong he is ;P
Title: Re:Singing
Post by: Jeysie on March 24, 2004, 04:03:17 AM
I meant, the people can be happy, and I can be surprised they think I'm good. ;) I still think I suck. Whether or not I'll bother to press the point depends on who it is. Harrison and I have gotten in some arguments where he'll say I'm good at something (singing, or something else), and I'll say I'm not, and he'll say why I'm good at it, and I'll say why I'm not good at it, and it usually gets kind of ugly. But at work for, uh, work sort of stuff, for instance, I just sort of smile and nod and go with it and just think to myself "Eh, whatever".

Peace & Luv, Liz
Title: Re:Singing
Post by: Jeysie on March 24, 2004, 11:07:21 AM
I want somebody to think I'm good because I really *am* good, not because they're trying to be nice, or because they don't know any better, or something. I <3 Harrison, but... he's just a little too gung-ho sometimes. He wants me to try all this stuff, and he's obviously not going to get me to try stuff if I end up being bad at it, so sometimes I think maybe he's just telling me I'm good to "encourage" me, not because I really am. :P

As for the viewer being "wrong"... well, for example, I can hear when a barbershop singer makes a major mistake, but I don't have a good enough ear to pick up some minor or even moderate mistakes. So while a singer's performance might be good to me, a judge, or even people with better musical ears, might pick up on a bunch of mistakes the person made, and it might not be so good to them. Which I guess ties into the "doesn't know any better" concept. :P

Yeah I understand what you're saying if YOU know it wasn't good but there's no point trying to convince someone! As you said, what they'd heard might of sounded good to them so why even bother thinking if theyre being false or not? Just get as many ego boosts as possible thats what I say.  :)

Of course there's a point trying to convince people! First of all, if they say you're good it means they are dead wrong and have to be educated and informed of their mistake. Secondly, that very ego boost is what we're trying to avoid here! you let people give you compliments like that and it won't be long before you start believing them, your ego would swell, you'll start having delusions and hopes that you're actually good and be less prepared and more heartbroken when they inevitably crash onto the cliffs of reality. :(

With all that said, after being told many times over I don't handle compliments very well, I'm trying very hard not to contradict every single person who pays me a compliment... mostly because I'm afraid they would give up and stop altogether  ::)

Hmmmm thats a bleak way to look at life, I guess the glass is alwyas half empty to you right? I don't know when I started taking compliments, I just know that at one point I thought "JUST SAY THANKS!!". Everyones different though. For me, it's a two-fold thing.

One, I don't like getting anything I feel like I didn't earn. That includes gifts, favors, compliments, etc.

Two, I prefer honesty... I like knowing exactly where I stand with someone, in terms of what they really think about me. I generally find it easier to determine the honesty of negative comments than I do the honesty of positive ones. (shrug)

LOL!  Duet with me or the cat?  XB

lol, yeah I was trying to remove as much as the vocals as I could from Alanis' version, but it ended up sounding kinda weird, so I left a bit of her in.  Don't forget, she sings different lyrics, so you can't really keep her at full volume.  :P

Well, if I got it to come out right...AND I remember to lock up the cat...well, a duet with you, of course.  (but then, everyone will cringe at my voice, so we might not want to!)

Yeah, her singing different lyrics is a prob...but with recording from a recording, you can't really hear her, so that's not the prob.  The prob is that you can't hear the music the majority of the time...oh well...

EDIT: ok, guys, I did it!  But now it's not letting me post it...I'm using the same site as I did before, but the link must be off.  I'll see what I can figure out and try to post it later!

Hahahah  ;]  OMG how embarassing! XD

Ok, here is my first "single" (http://members.rogers.com/neilrodrigues/MaryJane.mp3), Mary Jane (Pindarus' Theme).

And this (http://members.rogers.com/neilrodrigues/Sukiyaki.mp3) one I just recorded today, called "Sukiyaki" by 4PM.  8)

The first time my friends and I went to a karaoke place, this was the first song they sung.  So, I decided to sing it now, hahah.  This one's at least in my vocal range, but I still messed up a couple words.

Enjoy! (or cover your ears, whichever you prefer  :P)

Since most people here like alternative, I decided to do one! XD  I remember when this song came out and it was when the whole Alternative/Grunge/Punk/etc. era really kicked off.  I liked the song cuz it was a lot more fast-paced than the traditional rock song at the time.

Plus, Cesar said to stop singing cuz I sounded creepy. So instead, I picked a song that says the word "creep" a lot.  :suffer: :suffer: :suffer:  ;P

Clicking the link.  It'll bring up Anglefire's anti-hot linking page, and from there you paste the URL into your address bar.

My guess is once you're at the domain and calling the URL, it permits it, but if you access the URL from any other domain, it disallows it.  ;P

Title: Re:Singing
Post by: copycat on July 11, 2004, 10:10:40 AM
I don't know exactly what, but I sense a slight tempo difference between the original singing and koko's on the words 'or in pain' in the first verse, and somewhere at the end. That's why Neil's technique is better, when you filter out the original singing, you can't hear that. ;)
I don't mind the fact it's Christian music or anything else, as long as it has a good melody I'm happy. I'm sorry to have to say that this song's melody doesn't quite suite my taste, even moreso since at some points your voice doesn't quite seem to match the same tone (height?) as the original. :-[
But, that's just my own, personal, opinion and only applies to this song/rendition.

Well, it's not singing, but I wasn't sure where else to stick this.

A friend and I were talking on AIM the other day about the quirks in my voice. Like how I pronounce things normally, then come out of left field and pronounce some random phoneme kind of strangely. So I whipped up this little thing for the next time I talk to him. And I figured, why not torment you folks too? XD So here it goes.

And just to prove why I call my cat "Squeak"...

Sorry about the feedback, but I had to crank the volume for you to even be able to hear him!

I think it's strange, that you say your auditions were bad. Even with whatever you said you had(sore throat?).

Did I say that? I can't remember. I do remember being dog-tired and possibly having a cold or allergies or something. It was 8 months ago... my memory can't remember back that far. XD

It's not *that* exciting, trust me. ;)

Hmm. I actually have a bit of a dilemma. I promised a friend I'd record a doofy song for him, but while I have several doofy songs in my collection, either none of them are in my range, or none are suited to a solo. Any ideas from the peanut gallery?

Just when he's hungry? Our cat emits a wide range of meows, for all occasions, not just when she's hungry. And then there's the little cat, with little meows, mostly the same type, but also for different occasions.
Title: Re:Singing
Post by: Jeysie on August 05, 2004, 03:06:43 PM
Well, Rainy meows various types of meows for a number of reasons... it's just the prrrrow in specific that usually only comes out when he's hungry. Although sometimes he uses it when he's in mega-pet-me-love-me mode, too.

So that's how you guys say "odd", "spout", and "either" in Canada?  The South doesn't say it like that...we say odd, using the "o" from "ostrich"...spout, as in "ow" (I'm hurt), and either, as in the letter "e"...hope that's at least kinda clear.  I'd write the words phonetically, but no one would understand it :P

I thought that was how she said odd and spout. ???  As for either, I pronounce it "eye-thur", or "ee-thur" whenever I feel like it.  There's no set way for me. :P

Ok...let's try this again...I say "odd" as in "ah" (open your mouth and say "ahhh")...And with "spout"...I think she said it more "spoot", as in "tooth"...I think...*shrugs* Interesting trying to figure out how to say how it's pronounced when we have the different dialects...

So I'm both mystified and amused that this thread hasn't been archived yet  (My personal thread has though! :() but it works to my advantage. XD

So as some of you who are subscribed to me on YouTube may have noticed, I recently posted a video entreating help picking an audition song for an a capella group. Singing spambots, at least I should hope.

I liked the first two videos, Kelsey. The other two songs were just kinda eh--which is more that the songs themselves were. You sounded nice, but the songs just weren't as interesting and didn't provide much opportunity to show-off your voice.
Title: Re: Singing
Post by: MikPal on July 31, 2012, 01:15:25 PM
As a tonedeath person I can only give hints on the technical side.

If you're interrested in recording your own singin, I'd suggest you to buy a better microphone. There are some nice USB ones, but the best way is with a small mixer and a microphone (and a pop-filterto fix those s's. You can make one of those from old nylon stockings).

They're pretty cheap nowadays with some mixers having a USB output.
Title: Re: Singing
Post by: Rosella on August 01, 2012, 12:45:21 PM
Heh. I actually have both of those things. Several good USB mics and a pop filter made from old stockings. XD The videos were more meant to be an overview than to show exactly how I'd perform it. I'd obviously be putting more emotion into it, warmed up more, standing up, awake... XD This was just a quick thing since my webcam/internal mic was the easiest way of doing this. :P

But no, I do appreciate the advice! I've never quite figured out how to attach the pop filter to the mic though. Clothes hanger? XD
