Title: How often is the the site updated?
Post by: Bludshot on April 26, 2007, 05:30:21 PM
I haven't been around too long, bit I'm noticing that these journal entries usually come every few months.  It would be nice to know that there is still someone alive on the other side ya know?

I've noticed the trend or updating the journal about 3 months after each entry.  However, it is disconcerting that there hasn't been one of the regular 1-per-3-month update for a few weeks now...

Everyone, including project director to every single staffer I know seems to be insanely busy working very hard on their deadlines. There might be surprises coming along once final milestones are all done, that does mean including final legal approval on release.

Nothing else to say, we're still working (harder than ever) and hopefully we will make announcements whenever possible.

sooo...
I officially feel like the forum's official whiner, but it has been 6 months since the last update, which is worrisome
At the very least, let us know if you're planning a big update, so that I can be there for it.  but seriously, at least a journal entry? PLEEEEASE?

Well, there HAS been a little update: Contest Prize (http://www.postudios.com/blog/forum/index.php?topic=6116.0)

And of course, there are some screenshots here (http://www.postudios.com/blog/forum/index.php?topic=5645.0) :)

Hope that helps a little :)

Come on Koko, :-\
you have to admit that it's been a pretty long time since there was any site updates. And to find the Contest Prize you have to look on the forums, so wouldn't it be more of a "forum update" than an actuall site update?

Regardless, it's a game media update. :P

yeah, a game media update that was probably sitting around for a year before being released, not to mention that it took six months just for that. :P

lol, I love how pessimistic people want to be. We did give an update :) Maybe it wasn't exactly what you were hoping for, but it's an update, none-the-less :)

You seem like more of a TSL-pessemist than a KQ-fan to me. I think that the contest prize was SO much more than I thought it would be. I am actually not a huge fan of screenshot after screenshot, the music in this game is fantastic. I was expecting a screenshot, and instead got a beautiful comospition. (Not to diss any screenshots, for I do love them dearly, but to me they aren't a huge "update") :P
Title: Re: How often is the the site updated?
Post by: kq fan007 on August 17, 2007, 09:07:06 PM
Hey I love the music too, but I just think that having 1 musical composition in 6 months time, not to mention that a music composition is really no sign of "true" progress, is really not that much at all to go by. But what I truly think is funny, koko and awesomeasapossum, is that you did exactly what I said people did when they post less than positive comments :suffer:( both of you read my post, I wrote it about a month ago, its under New Screenshots thread and the #63 reply, you'll see what I mean.)
(now in that post I used the word "development" but the same can be applied for updates)
My point is that we have gotten absolutely 0 updates from anyone besides Web moderators in the past six months and I can't help but ask myself "Do we really have to wait half a year just to get a little media from a moderator? Can't the "actual" site be updated with new content from the TSL team rather than just another link on the forum?"
but that leads me to one last question: This one is for Yonkey, so if your reading this please respond, "Is it hard to have website updates?, I mean is their a genuine reason why they haven't been updated in awhile? Is the team just trying to save time and energy by not updating it?  ???
I've done a bit of website creation and I know how complecated it can get. :-\

koko, awesomeasapossum.. pls dont pass judgements on kk fan007 or other 'people.'

It really says something when you label them as pessimistic off the back.. c'mon now! You should know better.

kq fan 007 is a fan, he just wants an actual game progression update, not some distraction contest, which what it really is supposed to be... it is NOT an update about how the game is coming along.

and those 'screenshots' koko mentions... it WAS an update...... 9 months ago!

Stop spinning things... face the facts.. no genuine update has been given.  I read quite a few posts from people expressing anxiety..  that is NOT pessimism,  that is ENTHUSIASM.

Don't tell me when you are told by your partner one day "Hey hon, I have a surprise for you! But I won't tell you what it is over the phone, I will give it to you later when we see each other."

Time passes.. you grow anxious.. you want to know what the surprise is, but you wait patiently pretending nothing is fazing you... but you know you are going nuts inside.

Then when you get home, your partner explains "The surprise I have isn't ready for you, but I can tell you you have always wanted it"

A few months pass, "yea that surprise I promised... here's a picture of it if it was seen from a 4th dimension"

9 months later..     you say "wtf?!?!?!?!?!?!?!"

lol... I think you get what I am trying to say. People are excited about the game, not Pessimistic!

And if anything.. to say a content, aka distraction, is a genuine update is to deliberately misrepresent the truth.. and I find THAT to be rather obnoxious, not the anxiety people share here that you interpret to be 'pessimism'

nuff' said!

Well, let's get a couple facts straight first.  The last update was not 6 or 9 months ago.  It was 5 days ago, and prior to that it was 2 months ago in June.  The people that participate in contests got to see these updates even sooner. 8)

So, if you truly are enthusiastic about the game, you could try showing it better by participating in the monthly contests we run.  If you don't want to do that, then you'll just have to have patience. :)

*agrees with Neil* And also, you can tell by reading people's posts whether they're optimistic or pessimistic. I wasn't labeling one person in particular, but saying overall, there are quite a few pessimistic people out there :)

Oh, and Neil, I THINK we had another update back in July as well. I'm thinking we've released the last three months of prizes. Of course, since I've moved four times in three months...my months are a bit mixed up ;)

Come on koko and yonkey think for a minute here :P, I been reading posts from other forumers and they think the same way. WE HAVEN"T HAD ANY ACTUAL PROGRESS UPDATES. I don't know what I have to say to make you two realize this. I feel like both of you have just covered your ears and started yelling. "YOUR WRONG!, WE HAVE UPDATES!, WE HAVE UPDATES!, WE HAVE UPDATES!, WE HAVE UPDATES!", despite what everyone else is saying. So if you want to call music and pictures updates then let me rephrase my question "Where are the progress updates?" But whenever someone asks this question they get the moderators most favorite answers: "You know that if we gave you lots of updates it would spoil the game for you and we wouldn't want that :)" or "If we gave a release date something would come up and we would have to change it so we won't give you one :)" or my personal favorite " Would you rather have the game come out sooner or have a couple of more updates :)" Well I can answer all three of those replies 1. People don't need to hear the plotline or see 101 game screens, all they want to here is "We had a really good week, we got alot done" or "We were pretty busy so not much was done this week" what I wish they would do would be to just give us a percentage like" well we're 85% done so far" 2. I read gunhomac's post and I think it pretty much answered this reply, we need a release date so at the very least it can put the game on a bit of a timetable. 3. Updates would not take anytime at all from the developers despite what other people say, all they could do would be to make a thread on the forums where everyone on the team would take maybe 1 minute each week and write a little something about how much progress they made this week.

I think it's ridiculus to call people pessimistic when they realize that 3 pictures and 1 music clip in 6 months isn't alot.

Yes Yonkey, the last non-photo/music update when someone on the TSL team actually spoke was 6 months ago.

Yes, I do apologize for that kq fan007, I was feeling mildly angry and I was especially unhappy to find yet another post like that. But I still am a little irked at you because of your above post. I know your enthusiastic, but when it comes to updates, I'm sorry; you'll just have to wait. Your fighting a losing battle. I know that this sounds mean and harsh but it's the thing we ALL have to realize. Everyone is just as anxious as the other and we have to realize that we just need to hang in there a little longer. The game will come faster than you think, and when it's here, it'll be worth it.

And Deloria thank you for pointing that out, know I feel ashamed of myself...:(

So if you want to call music and pictures updates then let me rephrase my question "Where are the progress updates?"

Just a couple weeks ago, Michael Fortunato came in with an update that was on the forum. It's posted here somewhere and linked to within the last 24 hours. :)

I actually have been a mod for over a year now, and I don't think I've ever said anything like that. I know everyone is trying to be understanding, as GunHoMac said, about the team not being paid to work on this game. I understand it can be frustrating. And I know my frustration level was up there at times when I was a fan. Now that I'm a team member, I know there's work being done. I may not know WHAT work it is, since as a mod, I don't have any specifics, but I know it's being worked on.

I think everyone knows that Neil and Cesar and Michael got together over the last week or so to work on the game in person. I believe Jon was there, and maybe some others. But, after talking to Neil and asking him how much work they were able to get done...I was told that in one day, a scene went from 20% to 80% complete...something that would take weeks to complete. Now remember, this is just ONE scene. And Neil once explained it to me. When you're working all online, someone like Cesar looks at something and says "I want it to be richer...or less purple...or...etc"...and you can do your best to satisfy them. But it's much easier to do it in person and not through email, MSN, and other ways. And much quicker.

Quote from: kq fan007 on August 18, 2007, 04:39:05 PM3. Actually, it does take more than a minute to write up a post. A person may be a fast typist, but between putting thoughts together, trying to keep from typing out any spoilers, and typing everything out, it can take more than a few minutes. Plus, you end up having to read over and comment on others comments. Which, is why it's a good thing we have mods. I've sent out many emails to team members telling them to check out a thread or a post so they can comment and help out.

We have just begun having monthly contests and prizes. They've been going on for about five months now. So far, all the prizes have eventually been released to the public (one contest was the smiley contest). I know I'd rather have one small monthly update than one, once a year, huge update. Sure, yes, I'd still want a large update. But what's the use complaining about small updates. I mean...seriously, the team doesn't have to allow us to release the prizes. In other words, we could've gone the last five months without anything. But the team was gracious enough to allow us to release the prizes to the public.

No, he's saying that if you want to have some fun while you wait for updates, then you can participate in the contests. :)

Because the team is busy :)

I hope that helped some :) I tried to clear up quite a few things.

Oh, and we need to keep this thread nice. If there's even the hint that it's going to come to the point where there will be arguments, I will lock the thread. :)

Koko's 100% correct, and the only thing I'll add is that my definition of a web update is something never-before-seen that has now been released.  It could be artwork, music, journal entries, etc.  Progress updates are completely different.  We only post them publicly on occasion, and there are very few development teams out there that post them regularly.  If you went to one and asked, they'd either: ignore your request completely, give you a very vague indication of status, or they'd lie and just tell you whatever you want to hear.  No one will give you an exact percentage until they're ready to release.

I'm sick of going around in circles. The question of this thread is "how often is the site updated?" not "how often does a team member post a progress update?"

So it's been 5 days or so since an update and if the monthly contests continue, you'll be getting an update once a month or so. There, answered.
