My appreciation for the day: Someone asked on stupidquestionsanswered.com "who first realized you could get milk from a cow?" (intending to ask who the first person/culture was). I found it very funny for some reason that the answer someone gave was: a calf :P

The main ingredient in spam is pork...but if you're dealing with potted meat then you will see mechanically seperated chicken followed by beef tripe (yum!  Cow stomach!)--ahh...the things you learn in vet school....

So, chocolate milk comes from brown cows, strawberry from pink, regular from white...

... what kind of cow does beef come from?  ;)

Die Kuh          Die Kühe
Der Kuh          Der Kühe
Der Kuh          Den Kühen
Die Kuh          Die Kühe

German declension. :D
(Nominative, Genetive, Dative, Accusative and their corresponding plurals, though the order in German is usually Nominative, Accusative, Dative and Genetive)

I give you cow in Greek! (I did not include diacritics because the character map seems to be lacking some and it didn't make sense to me to provide some but not others which are arguably more important.)

N:βουςβοες

Close... I get...

N:   βοε
G:   βοοιν
D:   βοοιν
Ac:  βοε
V:   βοε

The reasoning I've used is somewhat involved but I might as well supply it as I did not take this from a paradigm (as I don't even seem to have any available with which to check)...

A class of Greek nouns had stems which ended in F otherwise known as a digamma which was pronounced as an English w. βους is such a noun. So, where this digamma was between two vowels (an intervocalic digamma similar in concept to the intervocalic sigma) it dropped out (just like what the Athenians liked to do to intervocalic sigmas) and where it came between a vowel and a consonant it either became an upsilon.

There are other possible interpretations... I may look this up in a reference grammar later if I think to do it...
