Title: YIKES!
Post by: atec123 on February 16, 2009, 01:45:30 AM
OK, I am up at 3:40 am.  Why?  Because Our house almost caught on fire!  I was waken up, and thought it was mornig, I was gonna go get some breakfast, and stuff, then my mom and sisters yelled at me to tell me to get out of the house, so I left, then everyone else came out.  We called the fire department, (conveniantly right across the street ;D ) and they looked arount the house for an HOUR!  They couldn't find the source of the smoke, until some people went under the house, and found that the heat source for our house was on a horrible electric fire!  So, they tried putting it out for a while , and then they did, but they say if it had been going for about a few more minutes, it would have certainly destroyed our house, starting with the floor! :o :o :o :o  I was SO happy, and this all happened 15 minutes ago!  that damn electric fire smell :P  So, I've thought it over now that I can think, and I'm just glad to be alive!  I was the slowest to wake up, and something horrible could have certainly happened any minute!

I'm glad you're ok, Atec. This sort of thing especially when you don't know what the problem is is really dangerous.
A fire is no less dangerous than a gas leak. Some people use gas as a heating system. Well, let me tell you. An English teacher of mine who had done a lot for me, died while taking a bath because of a gas leak.  :(  She left a daughter behind-and her uncle was diagnosed with cancer so grandparents took care of her in the end. I lost sight of that girl. I hope she is fine.

Im really glad to hear nothing happened. Take care.

Thank you.  I tried sleeping after I posted, but I can't, I smell the electric fire smell that's still in the air, and it freaks me out.  That's creepy, a gas leak must be really crazy, you don't see it coming a lot of the time!  This was crazy, I was starting to think our house, and all my stuff was gonna be gone, I got out of the house, and I wasn't sure I oculd go back in, but I did, i'm ok, and the house is fine! ;D

Glad to hear you're (sort of) fine. You probably feel stressed about what happend. Hope it passes soon.
btw a gas leak is easier detected. The smell of gas is mixed whit some chemical that makes it smell bat. That way it's easy detected. Fires like this can be very late detected and can do serious damage.
Hope you get some sleep soon and rest well.

You are right!  I am feeling very stressed, I also am a bit worried that some of the stuff (like burning rubber) could make me sick.  I'm staying in the computer room, it's the least smelly.

Glad you are okay. I know how you feel about not being able to sleep after something like that. The stress is playing with your mind and I think that is the worst thing in the world. You have just given me a reason not turn on my electric heater and just to stick with an electric blanket.

Hope you feel better.

Well not always apparently-there are quite a few cases of these where I live. Apapently undetected caused one time a whole family to be admitted to hospital. Fortunately they were saved. They were luky. It's dreadful to hear about such things. Thing is,  gas heaters are usually of very bad qualityl old and some just can't affor to get new ones, it's a dfficult situation, really. There should be more controls but the controllers are  sometimes reckless in checking everything.

What matters is that Atec's fine, though. Take time and regain balance after this.

Sending angels of peaceful relaxation your way.

Yeah, the damage wasn't so bad.  I mean, our house was ok for a while, we just didn't have all our stuff (tonight will be the first time in weeks that I will sleep with my comforter instead of a sleeping bag on a mattress)
