Why did you choose your screenname? It is obvious that some used their (partially)name. But there are some strange/nice/weird/cute names among them, so I'm curious why you chose that name...
feel free to share ; )
Mine used to be an old nickname I had years ago. ;D It was actually the first username I used when I got the Internet. I decided on using it as my main alias (compared to some form of my real name) because I knew the majority of the time the alias would not be taken already. :)
I don't know if my nick qualifies as strange, nice, weird, or cute, but I'll answer anyway. ;D
It all started way back when I first got Net access in November of 1996. I opened an account with AOL (yes, you can all either laugh or radiate sympathy in my general direction, depending on your disposition), and needed a username. I knew I wanted something more unique than just my name or initials, and didn't have lots of random numbers after it, but all of my childhood nicknames were... well... decidedly less-than-flattering. (The only two that weren't horrible were "The Brain", which I feared would set up an incorrect first impression, and "The Walking Computer", which would have been amusing, but was too long.)
Finally I somehow hit upon "Jelsie". J from my middle name Julia, and "Elsie" from my first name, as well as a friend whose middle name was Elizabeth and sometimes liked to go by that nickname. Well, "Jelsie" was taken. And so was "Jelcie" and "Jaycie" and so on, until I finally hit upon "Jeysie". It wasn't taken, it sounded kinda neat, and it meant absolutely nothing. Perfect! ;D And since I'm a creature of habit (not to mention desiring to keep a consistent online "persona") I've just used the nick for every online thing I've done that needed a username... and it's never been taken so far. 8)
I've been using the same "post signing off" method for all this time now as well, for similarly boring yet quirky reasons. ;)
Peace & Luv, Liz
When coming to register for stuff, I can never think of anything interesting, witty, expressive or that would otherwise impress all those who see it and/or make them think I'm a really great and wonderful person...
So I just used my own name :-[
And a cool name it is. :D
My username is completely random, I picked it cuz my mind feels old and my hair is bushy. ;) Other usernames I have are hourija and Aeridus, both which mean nothing in particular except that hourija is supposed to sound Japanese and Aeridus sounds like it has to do with flight. ;)
I think my story is interesting. I got mine when I was playing DigDug. So you know when you have to type in three letters when you won. Well I type in Ilk then I notice that those letters are close together on the keyboared . So from then on when ever I play an arcade game I just type that in .So then I just type it twice and you have Ilkilk :)
Well, my name is Stephanie- thus the Stephie.
Sama is a Japanese suffix that is a "term of highest respect, for deities, rulers, someone you respect a great deal, or people with big egos." In my case, its the big ego thing.

lol, he's probably cold. I'm know I'm cold right now.
HAHAHAHA omg its so obvious I feel stupid not even considering that hahahaha :D
yeah that could be it :P
actually I'm cold yes ; ) ...but that wasn't the reason for my screen name
At Highschool my fellow students called my by my inverted name. Since I didn't really liked the pronunciation I removed the vowels.
I thought 2 letters looked a little bit... small, so I repeated the last letter twice.
And thus a new name was born ; ) I first used that name with MSN - messanger, and ever since everyone (well, not everyone) calls me that online. Never heard it offline though ; ) ...they must have been a little bit hard for them to pronounce something without vowels ; )
...care to guess the original (not too hard I suppose)?
Rob? ;p
idd,
That wasn't too hard, was it? ; )
LOL, it was a lucky guess... that I had to think for over an hour :D lol
congrats anyway, guess you're a good guesser ; ) (an HOUR!?! there was only one letter missing ; )
Your reward: :-* *
My real name is actually Robert, but it is only used on official papers ; /

I knew that, but if you used Brr its because it was for Rob, if you used Brrt then I would have asumed it was aimed for Robert ;P, Brrt sounds weird... lol I think Brr is better, honestly! I do believe its cute and original, (same as racx's name :D), cuz people in forums always tends to use either their real nicknames or just their fav nicks, and yeah short names call my attention :P

was a really bad experience, and even so afterwards I wonder why ppl just like to hack for the heck of it :P
idd, I think you all have cool names ; ) that's why I posted this thread in the first place (to see how/why you get them)

I've noticed that the best way to block others out of my comp is to disconnect it ; ) ...glad to say that I've never been hacked... yet

Way back when, when I first discovered forums, i.e. the MoE-forum, my nick was copyman, 'copy' was because I just got a CD-(Re)Writer, so I could copy CD's, and secondly my gender. Afterwards I got to know my feline side, so when the MoE forum moved, and I had to re-register, I chose copycat and someone made me a fitting cat-like avatar. So now, wherever I can, I use the nick copycat, and if I can't (like on ezboard) I go by another cat-incarnation. :P
Drunken Chinchilla...I'd love to say where this came from but I can't lol. Does anyone actually remember? Maybe I've ALWAYS been Drunken Chinchilla....
Just go to www.homstarrunner.com you'll understand
I love that site! Go the Cheat! ;B
I've never heard the name, outside of the Bible. I did know where it came from though.
Just because I'm too lazy to retype it, I'll copy and paste from an old post (http://www.postudios.com/blog/forum/index.php?board=10;action=display;threadid=806;start=msg19790#msg19790). ;)

Awww . . . geez. There's already been a username thread? Well, I feel stupid ;].
And I would never of guessed that you got Jeysie from Elizabeth (even I've never gotten that far ;P). The only nickname I have using my middle name is Lizzy-Annie, which sounds like a Southern christening gone very, very wrong ;B

I didn't recognize where it came from... darn name transcripts :P
I do have other usernames for other places, but giving them here would be kinda missing the whole point of having them ;)
Well, when I signed up in Yahoo, I needed a username...came up with Koko, named after the siamese cat from "The Cat Who..." books by Lilian Jackson Braun. Eventually, we ended up getting a siamese whom we named Koko...and with my name being abbreviated to Cat...it all fits! Whoo hoo!
Cat
Don't forget Rhett! Can't forget that one Colin!
And Alex, you're not kidding when you say that you've had the name Drunken Chinchilla forever! Before I disappeared about April 2003, I seem to remember a guy on the forums named Drunken Chinchilla...and when I reappeared in February(ish), you were a_c_saunders...(sad how I remember this, isn't it?)
Cat
OMG deja vue! (http://www.postudios.com/blog/forum/index.php?board=10;action=display;threadid=724;start=msg21282#msg21282)
XD
Oh yeah, Cat calls me Rhett, and I call her Scarlett. We started our own little version of Gone With the Wind when we found out that we are both from the southern parts of America.

I just have it cold... o wait there is another explanation for my name... it's in that thread somewhere too ; ) ...lol, i post it again if i have finished reading all new posts ; )
My first game was King's Quest 6 in 1995, i played it on my Cousin's Computer.
I loved that game so much that i had to have a Computer.
I played many Sierra games after that and other non Sierra games, but KQ was my all time favourite top on the list.
In 1999 when i got Internet, my first Username was Daventry.
So till today no matter what game i play, KQ is my all time favourite. Especially KQ6
So my Username is: Daventry.
How did you get the name Kimmie ??? :P, i mean we all know but i want a detailed explanation ;D :P
Quote from: B'rrr on June 18, 2004, 06:00:40 PMlol, i post it again if i have finished reading all new posts ; )
You must have
a lot of new posts to read, if it takes you, being a resourcefinder and such, that long. ;)
i still haven't finished reading all new posts cuz my time is limited here (although you might not have noticed it ; )
B'rrr still posts more than me, and he doesn't have the time to post. :(
Oh well, I'll just try to beat his score, at Hexxawand. :suffer:
i mean if i had the time i would post about 3 times as much as i do now :-\
...btw good luck, hope you'll succeed ; )
wow, and I thought I had no life :P
well, I dont wish I had more time to post, but more time to work :(
Quote from: B'rrr on June 22, 2004, 06:14:16 AMi still haven't finished reading all new posts cuz my time is limited here (although you might not have noticed it ; )
If your time is limited, you need to
prioritize. Like what I did today, I had to check manual payments, an automatic (global) payment (but I still have to check every payment individually), and check and approve entries into the bookkeeping program. The manual stuff had the most priority, so I did that first, and then I did the last option and left the global payment just lying there. 8)
i post to get my mind of things and i have a lot on my mind lately i have like 4 projects i am working on next to my part time job my house and my cwappy personal life. i so need time to relax ...real quick, to straight things out ; \
:o I hope you find some time to relax soon. :-[ BTW, were those 4 projects entirely unavoidable? :-X
CMS? :X Isn't one of those beasts enough? XD
i thought cms meant customer managment system, i normally use an other abbreviation (RMS, relation managment system)
I thought a CMS was a "Content Management System"? XD (Talk about confusion!)

Same here. :o
wheeee, abbreviation aren't my strongest suit.... so i might be wrong, i usually use the dutch version anyway... still i really thought it was customer, well perhaps the same abbreviation is used for both of them ;-D

Never heard it being used for that, however:
CMS: Compact Muon Spectrometer; an experiment at the LHC collider at CERN. 8)
I have a username at other forums called Aeridus. :)
It mostly means some kind of aerial being with greek connotations, but I'm the first to think of the word. ;)
