Title: New Journal Entry
Post by: Yonkey on May 31, 2009, 09:32:45 PM
A new entry has now been posted in the Journal (http://www.postudios.com/archivedTSL/journal/) regarding the game's current status.  Check it out! 8)

It is great that we know what is going on. I for one am willing to wait longer for a new sequence to be added if it expands on something in the later chapters. This may give Vivindi the incentive to let you continue working on the project. Keep up the great work and remember that 90% is still an 'A'

Yes.  The decision to only release Chapters 1 & 2 of the storyline hit people pretty hard.  While this new addition doesn't change that, it at least gives the game a much more exciting ending without modifying the overall storyline too much, just in case.  It may have a strong impact with Vivendi as well, which is why we decided to have it in there before presenting the game to them.

Thanks again, and yes, I'd definitely give the game an A based on how it is today.  However, these last 100 issues are things we really need done, in order to make a good impression.  Only a handful of them are critical.  The rest are things like adding missing animations and fixing sequences so that characters aren't doing weird things. :P

Great, Yonkey!  Sounds like you guys are on the right track.  :)

Hey Yonk, are you considering adding long-standing forum members to the credits? I think they might deserve it for being so loyal for years. Just a suggestion. And no, I didn't mean myself :P I've been here only a couple years, I just thought some people who'd been here waiting, defending against some naysayers, been loyal might deserve little credit at the end ;)

Yeah!  I don't mind waiting if we get an extra part!

Most of the long-standing forum members were actually on the team at some point, so their names are already in there. :P

I knew it!
QuoteAdditionally, around a month ago, we decided to add something extra to the end of the game.
There's the answer to my question which got a :suffer: in the Fannatics forum. ;D

So far the good news... j/k :P

Great job on reaching 90 %. I've waited this long, I won't mind waiting a bit longer.
What is seriously at risk though is me attending the release-parteh. As I wrote somewhere before, that could put it in September, but September is 'full' on my part. With all that'll be going on at work at that time, I'll consider myself lucky if I can get a few days extra to prepare my visit to the USA (West Coast) and after I come back, to recover from the effects of the inevitable jet-lag that way.

As if anybody pays attention to the credits anyway.  ;P Still, good work guys. I hope this gets out the door soon and makes some waves. You people have certainly worked hard enough for it.

I think Cez said it's around 200 in total.  I actually thought it would be a lot more than that.  It certainly felt like a lot more! :P

Trust me, if your name was in there, you'd pay attention. XB  Actually, there'll be some concept art interspersed between the pages, and a nice song to listen to, so I think it'll be nice to watch even if your name's not there.

Just so you know, I always watch the credits, even at the movies I try to stay as long as I can, which is usually right before the cleaning people scamper in and I have to leave. Don't have that problem with DVD's.
Anyhoo, naturally I'll be paying even more attention than usual at the credits of TSL. 8)

Anyway, that's cool.

They usually have a "special thanks" section in the credits.  I imagine the people that contributed to the project but didn't hold an official position on the team would be listed there.  I'm glad the team chose to add on more content... this might just be the "ace in the hole" that increases the chances for a second and third game.

I have the impression everyone who contributed to the project held an official position on the team at that period in time. I mean, if even the Beta Testers were/are listed on the Team-page, that means everyone contributing has (had) an official position.

I beg to differ. The only extra thing that's hanging in the balance is the third chapter of part 1. Part 2 and 3 are scrubbed. So, that extra content probably has information from Part 2 and 3. Heck,it might even include information from Chapter 3. :gossip:

Whatever the hell that is.

"the key grip is the chief grip (lighting and rigging technician) on the set"
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Key_grip

...not sure how that would apply to TSL :-P

Hmm... We actually did have people that did texture lighting, and character rigging for animations...

...but we're not going to be crediting either of them as Key Grips. :P

Hi all,
newbie here. While I do like the site, it would be nice to have an e-mail newsletter which ties to the game and the website. This way the public can check out the game . Also whenever you have a journal entry people could know and could come see.

I have read all the journal entries and they give a good sense of where the game is and what probable game developers should look into.

What is confusing though is lack of dates and the order of build-naming.

From software development release standpoint you usually have a public demo build after a beta/release candidate version rather than the other way around.

Also finding information about hardware/system requirements is a pain.

Could there be a single page which has all the above info. with dates and stuff.maybe like a wiki ?

Welcome jivan! ;D

If you subscribe to the Newsletter (http://www.postudios.com/archivedTSL/media/newsletter/), you will be notified right away as soon as the next website update occurs, especially Journal updates.

I'm not sure what you mean by the journal entries lacking dates.  Every single entry has one, including the ones I made last year during our Journal Special.

Game development is actually slightly different from general software development.  Many games have public demos which represent a small taste of the overall game.  Due to their size, they are generally equivalent to RC versions (which is why the full name was actually "The Silver Lining - Public Demo RC1").

The entire game, on the other hand, is still technically in beta, though the version we plan on sending to Activision is quite close to the release candidate version.

We will be redesigning our website once we're closer to release.  Information such as system requirements and dates will be very easy to locate.

I remember both the blue design and the original design, though I only joined the forums during the blue era. I miss it terribly... What they should do is come up with a green design, in commemoration of The Land of the Green Isles. Or, a chessboard design in commemoration of chessboard land. Oh, how I miss the old days. The days when this forum was bustling with life (that's not to say it isn't now, especially compared to some forum on the internet. This is probably one of the most active KQ forums there is). This forum used to be so much more active than it is now... But I still love this community. This was my first forum ever, and I treat every member here as an extension of my own family. I had so many good times here. But back on topic, where is the next progress update? It's the end of august...

sweet, I'll mark my calender! I really hope they make it so we can choose different themes! Then again, I don't know if that's possible on this forum system. The one I used to use, Forumer I think it was, let me have a bunch of different designs for my guests to choose from (some I customized myself, though not too well I admit...) either way, I'm excited about a new design! The red has been around for a while now, so it's always good to have a change in scenery. And, it's good that they're redesigning it for the release of the game! I'm anxiously waiting to see it!

This wasn't my first forum. I believe that honour (well) befalls to the one Sierra, back in the days, created particularly for MoE. I remember when I first came here (well, it's predecessor, obviously), the forum was soooo quiet, I could keep up with new posts on a weekly basis. But yes, everyone who was here, how few there were, instantly made me feel at home. :D

Not too particularly fond of changes, me, unless it's absolutely necessary and/or I'm heavily involved and know it's as logical as possible. But then again, that's probably just me. ::)

A week into September and still no word...
C'mon, guys, how many times are you gonna tell us "we'll probably have it sent in by this date. No really, we know what we're saying this time" before I just stop believing anything you say ever?

I know it's silly to get angry at all about release dates after all this time and all the work you guys have done, but I still feel like pouting.
*pout*
