They're all probably going to work or school or something. Like me, I have to go to work soon. Whee.

Actually, I would think that getting a gender stat would be possible. Couldn't you just pull a tally of the gender flags in the database? You'd at least get everyone who actually specified the gender thing, anyway. :)

uh-oh.... I think I just hurt an intelligent woman ; ( ...didn't meant to honestly... I just wanted to say that a 'better' woman is not measured by their intelligence (ie. the more intelligent the better doesn't work for me).

True I do get very frustrated when talking to a simpleminded woman (or men for that sake... ; ) 'bout a 'heavy' subject. but even if you might have better conversations with a more intelligent woman doesn't mean she's better...

She could be though,.... but then again she could be very boooooring and dul and... see what I mean, better isn't the result of just one factor (intelligence).

hope you feel any better now ; )
Title: Re:I have a Question ???
Post by: Jeysie on March 11, 2004, 08:01:25 AM
Well, I *am* boring and dull... nothing wrong with the truth. ;) But thank you for clarifying... your sentiment does make me feel better.

Peace & Luv, Liz
Title: Re:I have a Question ???
Post by: B'rrr on March 11, 2004, 08:23:05 AM
I notice that people often have a bad selfperception ; ) some may they think they are better then they are and others think they are less

...hahaha, I mean , you say you're boring and dul... well that could be... for you. But others may disagree.

other examples:
Mango thinks she is sane ; )
Say thinks she's fugly

What one person thinks is boring might not be so to someone else. thus the *truth * is often viewed from a certain point of view...
Title: Re:I have a Question ???

You guys are used to listening to me babble in here, where you don't have to post unless you have something to say. In RL, and in real-time stuff, I'm pretty quiet and low-key. In RL, Harrison's always the one with the cool stories and witty comments... I'm just sorta in the background.

But yeah, maybe my self-perception's a little skewed. The problem is that nothing I do/say ever comes out the way it was in my head... so maybe it's still "good enough", but it's not "perfect/right" like it would be if I could get my imaginings to come out the way I want them to. :P

lol, Dr. Phil? ;P

I'm very much the same way, Jeysie.  In real life, I'm extremely quiet and low profile.  I only feel comfortable around people that I know or have something in common with so there's something to actually talk about.  I kinda envy all those good story-telling people, cuz I never have any interesting stories to tell. :P

Plus, there are a lot of times where I too can't express something perfectly or as elequently as I hear it in my head.  It's pretty annoying and frustrating when you can't get an idea across, but I think that's just something I'll get better and better at the more I do it.

Online, it's a lot easier, because you have more time to respond, fix mistakes easily and even go back and re-read something that was said in case you didn't understand something the first time.  In RL, you just have to ask the person again and again to clarify which is irritating for both people.

Ok I think I just went off-topic. :P What I was trying to say is that intelligence has many forms and is measured in many ways.  I personally would find a simple-minded woman to be just as boring and dull as an extremely smart one.  Probably moreso, because I could at least learn something from the smart one.  :P
Title: Re:I have a Question ???
Post by: B'rrr on March 11, 2004, 01:46:03 PM
hmmm... guess we are already off topic since it isn't 'bout genders anymore ; )

I just wanted to say that if I was very intelligent I would likely to be more attracted to a very inteligent person. But if I was very simple minded I would hate that cuz the diffrence would be too big.

My point is that I'd be more comforteble to someone with the same level of intelligence. ...hahaha, you could say that how greater the diffrence is the more comfortable I would feel.... well that's not completely true cuz diffrence is what makes person intresting.

but that's why a 'better' person isn't bout how intelligent someone is or how boring (or not) someone is for there are many conceptions of 'better' ; )

hahaha ; ) hope you understand what I mean, cuz that would mean someone would ; ) Racx why did you ever posted this ; ) lol

Quote
Intelligent Ladies are Better

btw I don't really agree with you guys that it's easier online then ofline... cuz it gives me way too much time to think everything over... and over again. In RL I just say it.... and then pay the price... but it's said and done ; )

Sorry, B'rrr, I guess I was just feeling a little defensive. It seems like every guy I've been interested in just doesn't like me, and it's usually 'cause they're not attracted to intelligent women. (And it's *intelligent* guys that I'm usually attracted to! :P ) Even my ex-boyfriend said he found my smarts to be intimidating. :-\

Heh, maybe. Still, it sucks. :( I can't go for... uh... "average-brained" guys, either, 'cause then when I try to talk to them their eyes glaze over from trying to understand me.

personally, I hate to be a bit extreme on it, but I do like smart guys, period, not smart a.sses lol but yes smart guys, even if they are specialized in a field, I find it extremely exciting a guy has a passion, personality and at least knows about something, I hate to admit there is nothing more dull than a brainless pretty face :(, its just a pretty face and nothing more, find more points to click and you may succeed, find minimal conection dots and attempt to fail, I think.

I can program pretty well, myself. :) Of course, I can only program DOS programs right now, Windows is tricky to learn how to program in. :P
Title: Re:I have a Question ???
Post by: B'rrr on March 15, 2004, 01:02:39 AM
hmmm.... well windows programming isn't all that hard to learn. because most tools make it easy for you to make a interface.

all you have to do is program the rest and the help for most language is very extensive so you can find a lot of help there and on the internet are lots of standard solutions to find. All you have to do is modify it to suit your needs, and if/when you get some experience, you can do without it.

It is getting harder if you want to program something unusual ; ) ....hahaha, but then again only new stuff is worth programming, cuz the rest is too easy (once you get the hang of it, that is ; )

I never did that in my life, I absolutly hate it because to let others do that always meant I used to get lower grades than I usually do, Im a TRUE nerd in that sense Im a horrible demanding director a strong boss (poor neil ;P) and yes I have a hard time trusting people which have no skills, Im one of the top 3 students in my class and thats because I always lead all my projects and such. Honestly, I never could do that (yes I did try) but I always got the worse lame ass grades :P to me a %60 is to freak out lol :P seriously lol, I used to be worse, now I dont care, I settle for a %70 :P lol ;P

Oh, I'd only delegate stuff that I know they're good at and I'm not.  For example, we had a database group project last term with a group of 5 people (myself included).  Myself and the group leader worked on the UML diagram ... erm basically the conceptual design of how the thing will work, someone else worked on the actual coding since they were really good at that, all of us did the queries (another step of the project).  I wouldn't want to even touch the coding since I didn't know any PHP or SQL at the time.  ;D

There was one dude that didn't submit the queries, so in the final project we just left them blank for his name, :P and when we were presenting it to the prof the group member mentioned how the slacker didn't submit his in time.  I don't think the prof really cared, but oh well. ;D

The nice thing was that our mark didn't rely on the slacker's and the prof really loved our project! :)

Actually i should properly explain why hes taking it out on you but i cant remember exactly what i learnt :-\

Last year i went to a course called Youth Opportunities which is a self leadership program, which teaches you what it really means to be successful and how you build self confidence. It was also based on building leadership skills, building self esteem and building confidence.

It was a really good program but i seem to have miss placed my brain so at the moment i cant explain exactly why hes taking it out on you :suffer:
Title: Re:I have a Question ???
Post by: Say on March 17, 2004, 07:19:29 AM
as I was talking with rob moments ago, the main problem is not to get the thesis done, give in and from now I can totally relax (I wish it would be like that) the problem is that right now is when the hardest comes from me, I have meetings coming and the defense, and i will not only have to put up with him but the gf and my mom will also be around... I'll explain the situation a bit.

My concern are the personal problems that have been crashing from one side to another, because my mom I think its the only aware of all the bullsh*it and crap im going though regarding this, as well as he does hates me I have no doubt of that just for the sake he did part of what he had to hes bitching, hes at a constant whim and what he wants? a cookie? its his thesis too he has to work there is no other way around it, I've worked my ass off since Thesis I and now on Thesis II he does one minimal s*** and he wants a celebration or something, so I bet he has his side of the story, as well as so they may his mom and his ridiculous gf, so the things are horrible between us, he cant talk to me without offending and insulting me, I personally dont feel like picking up on a fight 24/7 so he may insult me all he want now and he may act like the plain a****** he is, Im just not going to reduce to his level on this case, I have no intention to actually, he has hurt me (after hours of insulting eventually it gets to you) but Im not going to start a flame war there is still more to go which apparently he just seems to miss out of perspective, so the fact to even talk to him about thesis without him insulting me is truly an effort, cuz he always does since monday now, and my mom knows and is not very much pleased even though I told her to get the fukz out of it, same with I asume his mom and his gf which have lead to get in the way many many times and I have no idea how he can even allow that to happen, maybe he likes the backup cuz he doesnt have the balls himself, I personally dont know dont care, so, talking all that together to the fact that we still need to prepare the defense... and being there that day all together... yes, Im scared it may turn into a big ugly horrible day honestly, because if something happens my mom will always be my mom and his mom will always be his mom and so related, defense is a special day when you can invite in at least 2 family relatives on each side and 3 friends, so I know from his side he will consider his and I will consider mine, it is important to them so I dont care, they may go, but you know, my point is the bigger troubles are yet ahead.

So its not time to relax, its time to become emotionless and completly cold inside to not let get this to me, it is not going to be easy but Im looking foward to get the fukz out of this s*** once and for all.

Title: Re:I have a Question ???

That's really sweet of you guys, really thanks.

I do admit to hang around here and share this with all of you has helped me out a lot, it is a personal thing but it is certainly an important one, and sometimes the feedback is important, sort of like in this case.

I do feel like Im going to break down at times, because it isnt easy to be "the bigger person" 24/7 when all you had has been nothing but a bad experience thus far regarding such an important feature of your life, which you just consider better to move along to get your goals rather than to stop for inconvenients, the problem is, those "inconvenients" are rather strong and they are freaking tearing me apart at times, because seriously, it doesnt matter that you ocasionally get 1 insult but to get them constantly over stupidity (even if hes nervious, stupid, whatever) is extremely stressful even though if I may or may not be nervious/stressed myself, it is kind of rude and particulary awful to put up with something like this, I do try to keep things in order and peace because Im so busy I cant afford to discuss stupid bull for over hours with him when he doesnt even listens to me, I just need to be strong yes, but it is hard sometimes and Im glad at least I have friends here whom I can share this to and care, so honestly from the bottom of my heart thank you, this means the world to me.

Title: Re:I have a Question ???

Maybe you could explain something to me. In one of the previous posts I seem to recall you saying you have been placed in some sort of 'special group' because you're so smart. So if you've been teamed up with someone else to do your thesis, I'd think he'd have been chosen because he's so smart too. This doesn't correlate with the fact he's being so difficult about having to do one part out of four. ???
Title: Re:I have a Question ???
Post by: koko_99_2001 on March 19, 2004, 02:54:13 PM
I don't know what Say will say, but I what I think is that smart does not mean lazy.  He may be really smart, but lazy b/c he really doesn't want to do it.  (I am not meaning lazy in a bad way--right now it's the only word I can think of to describe what I'm trying to say---maybe slacker, or something like that??)

Still, he must not have been lazy or a slacker before he got into that special group, because I don't think you'd be let into that group if you were just smart.

Well, my schools didn't have any special "smart" groups. Anway, I'm not book-smart, I'm just smart in general. I think I have a good work ethic, I have social skillks to work in the team and I know how to apply the snippets of knowledge I still know by heart.
I breezed through elementary school, secondary school was a bit harder, and in college I studied on and out of school.

I'm pretty similar to you too Jeysie.  I prefer working alone, but when I have to do things in groups I'm ready for it.  The nice thing about group work is that most of the time you're surrounded with competant individuals. :) So, they not only could do the task as well as you, they might even do things better (this happens way more during university, than high school or elementary).

The major advantage is that you spend less time working on the assignment, because others work on an equal share of it.  The disadvantage is when there's a slacker in the group and everyone else has to pick up their share.  And as you said, there are often disagreements with group work because everyone has their own idea in their mind of what they think is "best".   ;D

LOL!  XD I have the exact same work ethic.  When I'm working for someone I'm in this "super hard worker" mode where I try really hard to solve problems to the best of my ability in the most efficient and effective manner.  Unfortunately, depending on the task I could become a perfectionist so after a certain period of time I have to say to myself "That's it!  Stop right here" or I would be improving and improving forever.

When I'm not in that mindset, I become an "extreme slacker" that doesn't want to move, think or do anything that requires much energy.  ;D It's really interesting because I can't stay entirely in one mode or the other.. otherwise I'd go completely insane.  I also can't be in both modes at the same time...

...Actually, when I do KQ9 stuff I think I'm in both modes at the same time.  I fluctuate between having fun and hard work, and it's such a nice balance!  No wonder I'm addicted to this place! !!!

Heh. I think there's a third possible disadvantage as well... one I'm running into at work right now, in fact. It can best be summed up as "the blind leading the blind". Namely, we all want to do a certain thing, and we want to work hard, but we don't collectively possess all the knowhow necessary. :P

The details would just get too long, but suffice it say that it combines the dubious skills of two managers trying to do marketing/advertising stuff who seem to me to not have received real training in it (they know some advance basics, but not really enough for what they're planning, IMHO), and a file clerk who has somehow found herself as a sort of "office computer guru", despite the fact that any person with real computer know-how would laugh at her being described as such. :P

Post by: Jeysie on March 20, 2004, 02:27:08 AM
Hee, oops, maybe some details would help. (Yeah, I was awake at 3AM again. Go neighbors! ::) )

For one, this is a teeny company, about 15 people, most of whom have been there for years. The people trying to do this are the "head honchos". (The president and his vice-president, basically.)

For two, we're not really doing broad advertising, we're doing an e-mail newsletter. We've done some brainstorming to figure out what to put in a newsletter, but we sort of ended up with a consensus of, "Well, we'll wing it." :P

The biggest issue is the tech stuff. We have this sales database program thingy. Basically we want to take the address and company info that people who visit our website put into our feedback forms, and make a database of that. Problem is, I know it's technically feasible to pull the feedback info into a flagged text file to import into the database. I just have no idea technically how to set that up. Our website is run by an off-site contracted company, for one. For two, I don't know much about web database stuff yet anyway. So we figured, OK, we'll just read the feedback e-mails from within the database program, and I'll copy them in manually. I actually got that figured out, only to figure out that the program has no way of sending through a secure server, which sort of defeats the purpose. Argh. So now I guess I'd have to figure out how to hook it into Outlook.

Of course, the whole reason we bothered using the database program to begin with was because nobody knew how to use Outlook for mass mailings where there was no way for the recipients to see each other's address, or accidentally reply to each other. (If you use BCC, I think that everyone can actually receive a person's reply, if the replying person is doofy enough to use "Reply all".)

Add into this the fact that my station is running Win95, and the database needs Win98, so I have to work with the program on someone else's station, which is only available to me for about a half-hour each day. Yech.

Problem is, I'm seriously the one in the office with the most computer knowledge. Everyone else either treats their computer like a "mysterious black box that works when I push the right buttons and say incantations" or there are a couple people slightly lower than me in computer knowledge. And they're too cheap... uh, I mean, cost-effective to call their computer people to figure it out.

I mean, I'm not dumb... I could teach myself the skills they need IF I had a few weeks to tinker for a few hours a day, and stuff. In fact, I would like to teach myself web and off-line databasing and stuff at some point anyway. But, I mean, learning in a half-hour a day, with nobody more knowledgable to ask for help (without paying a few appendages), when I'm supposed to be just an $8.50/hour *file clerk* anyway? It's a little frustrating. :P

to answer to bob here, the "special smart group" lol doesnt exist, is more like who asked and got granted that privilegue I asked and I got granted, sounds horrible, but hes not that much of a good student, hes a smart guy but too much of a slacker and mediocre, plus is the ONLY ONE at my class that can handle this subject (ecommerce and ebussiness) hence the rest of the class doesnt even knows anything webdesign related.

Anyhow, good news, I gave in thesis on wednesday, and they were going to check it out if it goes for april or july... guess what, I already even got a date!! I defend April 26th at 4:00 pm! yikes :)

I still need to see how are the administrative meetings with the jury and the thesis office, about the previous corrections from the document by the jury (they do have the final word besides the administrative office  anyways), so let's hope it all goes good and I can totally just go and defend and do good :)

Im like super happy... stressed out and anxious and stuff... lol :)

I already congratulated ya Say XD but I'll say it again here!  WEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!  !!! OMGCONGRATZWTF!  <3

That sucks Racx. Hmm but isn't grade 11 a part of high school?  Did you fail that one class or really the whole year? :-\ How much did you fail by?  If it wasn't a lot, you could try going to the teacher and ask him why you didn't get any marks for certain parts.  Sometimes it would help to have your parents talk to the teacher instead.

Jeysie, I'm not sure you're correct about the Reply to All button in Outlook.  If all addresses are BCC'd, they don't appear anywhere in the recipient's e-mail headers, so there's no way for them to see the e-mail addresses.  I just tried the Reply to All in Outlook on a few e-mails I've both sent out and received with BCC'd addresses and none of the hidden addresses appear.  Only the To e-mail of the original sender.

Well, I wasn't worried about the addresses showing up, so much as... if you get a message with BCC addresses, and you reply with "reply all", does only the sender get the reply, or does everybody get the reply? (I could swear I remember reading a web book with an e-mail section that warned about that sort of thing.)

Edit: Yep, I did some googling, and I remembered right... there are several places that warn that if someone does a "reply to all" on a BCCd message, everyone will get the reply. Since many of our customers are competitors with each other, this would be a problem. :P

And Racx... don't you guys have summer school? There was a few times where I nearly failed a grade due to skipping school all the time (don't ask, it's a long story, I'll just say it had to do with depression), but I managed to just barely pass by taking summer school courses. Kinda sucked, but it's not like I had anything better to do with the summer months anyway.

CC: Go to town:

http://www.google.com/search?q=e-mail+reply+all+bcc&sourceid=opera&num=100&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8 (http://www.google.com/search?q=e-mail+reply+all+bcc&sourceid=opera&num=100&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8)

At any rate... IIRC, my schools were based on credits, meaning you had to pass a certain number of credits per year to go up a grade. You also during your time at the school had to cover a given number of required courses and prerequisites before you could graduate. Like, so many years of English, and so many years of Science, and at least so many "levels" of each, etc. There were three different paths you could take... Fine Arts, Music, and Academics.

So if you were doing poorly for some reason, you had an option to go to summer school either to up your passed credit level over the required number, or take care of a missed/failed prerequisite to make your next year scheduling easier, or both.

I went to several of the links on the google search page and still haven't found one that says explicitly that the Reply to All will reply to BCC addresses.

I read this:
QuoteIf you clicked Reply All, all of the email addresses listed in the header of the original message will be listed as well.
But if you open an e-mail that was sent to you containing BCC'd addresses, you'll notice the BCC'd addresses don't exist in the message header.

I think the Reply to All will only send copies to each address that appears in the To and CC fields (email addresses that are listed in the message headers) but I don't think it's possible to see or reply to a BCC'd e-mail address.

Actually, I've just found a few more pages saying that Reply to All will only send copies to the e-mails in the To and CC fields.  I don't think there would be any point of having a Blind Carbon Copy field if you were able to view/extract the addresses in it.  :P

Mutations, hormonal influences in the uterus and such. When it comes to gender chromosomes, you either have XX (female) or XY (male). Or you could get XYY (super male) or XXX (super female) or XXY (can't remember that one... biology class was a long time ago). But IIRC, gender is determined by the no. of X chromosomes rather than the presence of Y's.

Opps, just realized this thread was here. Why did Racx bring up this thread. Could the forum mods search on everyones profiles and get the data that way. Atleast you would have everyone's data in here, not just about 40 or so. (Sorry if this has already been answered, i didnt get a chance to read through the 15 pages the thread has already produced.)

Gordon Bennet, the furious passion some of you people are throwing into this thread is unbelievable!

I would post some of my (extremely comprehensive) theories on the differences between male/female thinking in the context of my character analysis templates but that would take up to much room here! (believe it or not but they prove to be surprisingly accurate!)

In my operational experience, Ladies have always proven to provide vastly superior emotional counselling than blokes and I personally prefer to talk to Ladies in general (and no, it's not for the purposes of chatting them up! I'm an ugly git so they would simply laugh me off! The actual reason is that they tend to be able to converse much better on complex topics with me than other blokes I know.)

BTW, "Ladies" are in italics for the simple reason that in my definition, a lady is a female who is not viscious, spiteful, out to kill you for the slightest "mistake", not slavishly devoted to her image but is the total opposite and is proud to be who she is.  :)

Phew, I best not type anymore before a draw anymore flak!

I think that it does a world of good for a person of a given gender to get in touch with the side of them that is the gender they're not. ;)

As for "lady"... for me personally, that term always denoted a sense of high class... a woman who is well-mannered, polite, well-spoken, genteel, graceful, elegant, well-educated, etc. Not pretentiously so or as a poseur, however.

Peace & Luv, Liz

Quote from: Shadowfax on October 31, 2004, 07:45:53 AMIn my operational experience, Ladies have always proven to provide vastly superior emotional counselling than blokes

In the case of *this* female, you'll get better "emotional counselling" from a brick wall :-X

Quote from: Shadowfax on October 31, 2004, 07:45:53 AMBTW, "Ladies" are in italics for the simple reason that in my definition, a lady is a female who is not viscious, spiteful, out to kill you for the slightest "mistake"...

Oh. Count me out then :P

What I find interesting is not just the differences between the genders, but also why those differences exist. Sure, some differences are biological, but many are dervied from social conditioning. Gender roles are set at a very early age, and males & females act the way sociaty teaches them to act.
Title: Re:Male or Female??
Post by: Shadowfax on November 10, 2004, 03:14:49 PM
Oh I know what you mean, I have devoted long years of research into the differences between biological-culture based differences in all kinds of people (male or female).
Title: Re:Male or Female??
Post by: Jeysie on November 10, 2004, 04:19:31 PM
I personally think that it's more socially-based than biological-based, myself. (This coming from a girl who's physically feminine enough, but is quite a tomboy and feels more comfortable around men...) I also feel there's far more true differences between people as individuals than there are between people as genders (if that makes any sense).

Peace & Luv, Liz
Title: Re:Male or Female??
Post by: Oldbushie on November 10, 2004, 04:19:40 PM
I was never brought up in a normal setting, and I rebelled against society continuously, thus my dubious gender role. ;) I simply cannot even come close to thinking like or understanding a "regular guy", ie those girl-chasing guys who wear too much cologne and brag about how much sex they got. :P And I don't understand the guys who are complete losers yet desperate to get girls either. I like the opposite gender, but sex is not my main directive for some reason...

and the answer  is...
QuoteMale to Female Ratio:     2.4:1
(as of the time of this post)

Oddly...this poll isn't too inaccurate.
Title: Re: Male or Female??
Post by: Yonkey on August 02, 2005, 10:09:54 AM
"Oddly"?  The poll only had 31 votes, but the forum counts everyone (assuming they set it in their profile)! XD
Title: Re: Male or Female??
Post by: Louisiana Night on August 02, 2005, 10:22:03 AM
Odd that what the maker of the forum set out to do, find out how many of each gender there was in the forum(I think), was as close as it was to the gender ratio of the forum.

I expected it to be more inaccurate than it  is.
