Title: So TSL covers all of the previous games...
Post by: Mysteria on July 03, 2010, 05:10:32 PM
I'm very excited about TSL and about it recapping all of the previous games 1-7 for a proper conclusion, but I really hope, as much as it wasn't my favorite, I hope it mentions something about Conner or something related, even going somewhere Conner went in Mask, or talking to someone he talked to; the Wizard or the Unicorn, only because it was a official KQ game. That way, every KQ game ties up all loose ends and it would be neat to see how Mask would be portrayed in this beautifully done game, made into something beautiful, rather than a horrid look of the original game.

What do yall think?

All loose ends will be tied up, I promise.

I can't wait to see what you have interpreted as "loose ends"  :D

The obvious ones I think are Shadrack, Manannan, and and probably Hagatha (she was never defeated).

Lucreto was kinda stuck in limbo, so there is always a chance for his return.

Unless Abdul Alhazred saw the death penalty, he could still return.

Lolotte, let out a curse before her death, that she didn't know how, but that she would somehow return to take revenge on Rosella.

Of course Malicia isn't dead, if she returned to normal, she could still be a threat.

There was also the evil Enchanter and/or Sorcerer. (KQ1 and 2)  He or they were never defeated.

The Boogieman and evil Gargoyle from Etheria were never technically defeated. Although Count Tepes probably could keep them at bay.

The return of the evil dwarf/s (KQ1 and KQ2)?

I would offer my speculations, but I don't want to have to face all the :suffer:...

How does Daventry run into so much trouble all the time even though they technically have the Magic Shield that's supposed to defeat all enemies? Why doesn't Graham carry it with him whenever he goes on adventures?

The biggest loose end of all, how does Daventry's economy last, without hyperinflation setting in due to the over influx of gold coins from from the Chest of Gold.

You are so focussed on the bad guys!

loose ends might refer to the good guys! like ehm, Alexander ditches Cassima and hooks up with Connor and rule Daventry and the Isles, Rossella joins a monestry for the rest of her life (which is not too long anyways) and Graham and Valanice become vampires and live happily forever and ever!

Ok, whatever happened to dink, is he now living alone on Mordack's Castle with Sam? Has anyone moved into the castle?

Who let the cat out of the bag, ;).

What has the Ancient Mariner been up to?

Will we see Rumplestiltskin or his relatives again?

What's Crispin and Cedric up to?

Has Queen Icebella joined a rock band?

What happened to the bandits after they learned they couldn't enter the desert temple?

The pirates who kidnapped Alexander were eaten by C'Thulu, but what happened to C'thulu?(KQC reference)

Where did Herbert of Greys and Alicia head off to?

Has Frankie of Avalon become successful? What happened to the frog prince?

Has someone let the Old Hag out of the genie's bottle early?

How is the fisherman and his wife doing, or the seven dwarves, or the three witches, the goons doing?

Did someone arrest the bandits in the inn in Serenia, or are they still trying to kill people?

I don't know about all loose ends.  :) But the major ones will be tied up, I'm sure of it.

Ya, we'll finally find out what happened to the Shield of Achille and the Chest of Gold, and why we never hear about them after KQ1 (beyond some recap references, and I think a reference to the chest of gold in KQV novel in KQC :p).

Missing Deus EX Machina are the biggest loose ends of all :suffer: :suffer: :suffer: :suffer:.

For anyone who was curious what happened to Manannan's magic map, its on display in the Royal Library of Daventry, according to the KQC (so Alexander avoided disintegrating it).

What were all those little islands in the ocean in KQ5?

Who inhabited the village in KQ5 that we see when the Roc picks up Graham?

Where do the ends of the town in KQ5 (the blocked off alley and the gate to the right edge of the screen) lead to? How big is Serenia over all?

What were all those statues in Mordack's castle?

I've always been curious about the influences on KQ5-KQ6, both art wise and with some of the occultish stuff. It seems one or more of the designers (maybe Jane or even Roberta herself) had an interest in the Occult. Mordack's Castle looks like it could've belonged to Aleister Crowley.

Well at least some of those answers you can get from the King's Quest Companion. Specifically the second edition. Especially if you wanted more information about Serenia.

http://kingsquest.wikia.com/wiki/Serenia_towne Some of its in that article. I think there is also mention that the capital palace is also located in the town somewhere. Where queen Priscilla and her husband rule.

The statues you can look at with your eye, to get some details.

I know with the statues you get a little description..I'm just curious as to what inspired those particular designs. Either way, they're very effective, dark and mysterious, and I wasn't sure if maybe there was some kind of influence, whether fairy tale or occult or otherwise, in their design, like for example Mordack's altar like skull:

The writing on the 'altar' looks almost like Pagan or Angelic script or something I've seen in the Book of the Angel Raziel. I know I've seen that kind of script or 'language' somewhere in a grimoire.
I just always wondered what inspired the art style and little details of KQ5 in particular--KQ5 is a lot more detailed graphically than KQ6 imo.

I don't know for sense of hellishness, the Underworld/Realm of the Dead is pretty creepy, and as detailed as Mordack's island. More HR Gigeresque in style though.

I'm pretty sure that KQV novel in KQC actually describes some of the statues further, and gives some of Graham's opinions on them.

I think there was an article about the Dragon Statues in second edition. Even linked them to Sam Gamgee and/or Frodo Baggins.

Okay, well, a lot of them have already been covered, but I'll do my best.

If Edgar and Rosella end up together, wouldn't there be a time issue, since time apparently runs differently between the realms? Of course, I'm not sure that Etheria is being treated as in a different dimension as told by the Companion.

I personally don't think that Mordack is dead, but that's just me...

But yeah, now we're just listing a bunch of stuff that is probably totally unrelated to TSL. By the way, thanks everyone. I might be able to use some of these loose ends in fanfiction. Maybe.

Ya, that's why Rosella usually stays in Daventry at least according to the Companion (or she would age at an acellerated rate in relation to Daventry). That is for something like three days she lives in Etheria, an an hour or less has passed in Daventry. She would end up losing up her life in Etheria while her parents stay younger. The Graham message hidden in the files of KQ7 discuss this phenomena. That is for the days that characters were in Eldritch, from Graham's perspective only fifteen minutes had passed.

Its actually makes more sense for Edgar to visit Rosella in Daventry since he is either long lived, or Immortal.

QuoteI personally don't think that Mordack is dead, but that's just me...
If he isn't dead, then he had to have been weakened severely. Most sources state he is dead. Granted there is no body... but his magical "fire body" was put out by water. King's Quest Companion implies that will pretty much cause you to cease to exist, dead.

Maybe Eldritch and Daventry need to like... synchronize their clocks?

Yeah, Mordack's probably dead. But that book of iconomancy was just lying on his desk. You'd think he'd know the last spell on that page was a rainstorm. So maybe he knows of a way, somehow, to come back from turning into fire and then being put out. And, since his wand was weak, that was probably the last spell he could do anyway.
Title: Re: So TSL covers all of the previous games...
Post by: Baggins on July 04, 2010, 05:29:52 PM
That would be like trying synchronize reality. Its something like Narnia, the kids entered the wardrobe, lived there for decades, and when they come out only a few seconds had passed back on earth (as if they had never been missing).

However, unlike Narnia, you apparently don't revert back to your original state.

The Old Woods in Daventry apparently act similarly to those who enter them. days, hours or weeks pass inside while things are slower outside.

At the very least the loose ends that I would like to see tied up are Mannanan, Hagatha, and Alhazred (if he escapes from prison, if not then just have him rot there but that would be no fun if he didn't come back).  As for the rest of the ends, let the chips fall where they may.

Also, what happened to King Graham's secret male lover who was present at the end of King's Quest 6?  Did Valanice find out about him?
Title: Re: So TSL covers all of the previous games...

Alhazred is probably my favorite villain in the series, followed by Mordack and Manannan, and then Lolotte. I could really care less about Hagatha in comparison.

Saladin? or the Green Druid?

No seriously who was the green Druid? We never see him throughout KQ6, and he just sorta appears in the good ending. No explaination. I suspect he something to do with the tree, since he's about the same color... but what the hell?
Title: Re: So TSL covers all of the previous games...
Post by: I_am_so_nifty on July 05, 2010, 05:55:58 PM
Maybe the Green Druid was mentioned in the Companion? But yeah, I always thought that he/she (I should think that there are female druids of some sort) was connected to the tree.
Title: Re: So TSL covers all of the previous games...
Post by: B'rrr on July 05, 2010, 05:57:56 PM
Aren't dryads more bound to specific trees then druids?
Title: Re: So TSL covers all of the previous games...
Post by: Baggins on July 05, 2010, 05:59:31 PM
Nah, not even mentioned in the companion unless he was one of the Druid sorcerers that the king and queen brought from the the Isle of the Mists to help take back the castle, just before the fight with Alhazred.

I always thought the Green Druid was the keeper of the Sacred Oak.
