Title: Cat's Thread
Post by: Haids1987 on July 08, 2010, 04:48:41 PM
This thread is dedicated to all things Cat.  She's beautiful!  She's talented!  She's sweet!  She deserves her own thread again.

Sooooo....Cat is awesome.  Discuss.

Cat is really one of the most genuinely nice people I know. She's just bright and pleasant and being around her is so much fun. I entirely agree with the making of this thread. :P

I agree. Cat is a wonderful, sweet, and caring person. I feel truly blessed to finally call her a friend and am glad someone thought to start this thread.  ;)

She is all of those things, but I will tell you what she isn't....

She is NOT innocent!

I just felt that needed repeating. :P

Well, yes, that goes without saying. As we've proven by unbiased poll, the most innocent member of the forums is me. :P

Clearly I was not included in that poll!  :o

And we should fill this thread with cats then *nods*

Thank guys! My ego is now HUGE!...

No seriously, I'm extremely flattered :) Ya'll are too sweet.

Graham, remember that I'm a married woman now! Some of my innocence is now gone! :P

Now, for the real reason for a personal thread...

PICTURES!

Kimmie suggested I add some of the Chihuly Nights pictures from Facebook for everyone to see. So here they are! (BTW, I'm linking from Facebook and experimenting. If this doesn't work, let me know!)

Chihuly Nights:

Japanese Garden:

My favorite part:

These things were just COOL:

People were standing in front of this, so I couldn't get the best pic, but...

Also very cool when lit up:

Your glass sculpture pictures are absolutely beautiful!  It's amazing what talent God can give us.  I believe there's a chandelier at a mall in Seattle that Dale Chihuly crafted. Incredible!

It was absolutely amazing to be there. I had seen pictures of them during the day, but when I heard they lit up at night, I told Erik and Ian, his brother, that we HAD to go at night. Let me tell you...WOW!

Haids, I bet you're right about the chandelier. There were two of them crafted at the Cheekwood house. I couldn't get pictures of them since they didn't allow photography in the building.

Oh, and I'm LOVING the pictures of cats ya'll are posting! Too cute!

Depends on what part of Tennessee you're from :P West Tennessee is more country, East Tennessee is more mountain, in the accents. And yes, there is a difference between a country accent, a mountain accent, and a Southern accent :P

Kimmie, message me the advert and I'll let you know :P

If you're in the bottom left corner of West Tennessee, you'll also come across a lot of southern ebonics. Actually, around Memphis, the Southern accents are very weak--a lot weaker than yours, Cat. I'm surprised people ask you where you're from! Lol.

Y'know, Cat, there's probably a lot more to the Nashville area than you realize. It also has a THRIVING alternative lifestyle nightlife culture (which is mainstream talk for what we call the "gay scene") -- which means that if I become a big enough event promoter, I can get a circuit party off the ground and come visit you. And it will be a "business trip" so totally a tax write off. ;D

The thing is though, Cat... you were NEVER very innocent! It was all an elaborate hoax!

As for the accents, Cat is absolutely correct. The dialects of the Southern accent vary as much as any accent I've learned in my acting career. You have the northern mountain accent (which would be the one Cat is referring to, because this is "northern" in the south) which usually called the "Carolina Mountain Dialect" or simply the "Southern Mountain Dialect" but if you go further south to like Georgia, the end of the Appalachians, you'll find that the dialect is different there too (although that's more to do with tempo rather than pronunciation, so it doesn't really have a name of its own). When I was in Gint we all had to learn the Southern Mountain Dialect because the entire first act takes place in the mountains of North Carolina and let me tell you, it was no picnic. It's a southern accent that not only uses the letter "r" (I know, what?) but like emphasizes it.
Really, in a sense, you can break up the south into four quadrants (north, south, east, west) and each one will have its own dialect, and then throw in the mountains and that should leave you with no less than six distinct southern dialects. What makes Tennessee a wonder is that, as Cat said, you can actually find three of them all naturally homegrown in that one state. That makes it unique among any other state in the country, I think.
It's a wonder any of ya'll can talk to each other though.

 Jacob's from near Memphis and I don't think he has all that strong of an accent.

My husband is from Florida, so he doesn't have much of an accent at all. However, since he's been living in Tennessee, he's picked up a little bit of one. Every once in a while, I'll hear him flatten an "i" or drop a "g" at the ends of words. Quite funny, since he wasn't like that when we were dating :P

Graham, it would be awesome for you to come...if we are still in Tennessee. And the mountain accent I'm talking about is found in the Appalachian Mountains. Pretty cool, huh? Granted I went to graduate school in that area, so I heard it quite often!
Title: Re: Cat's Thread
Post by: crayauchtin on July 10, 2010, 02:27:17 AM
That's the same accent I'm talking about, Cat. :P The Appalachian mountains themselves, if you want to discuss JUST mountain accents are really peculiar mostly in that the southernmost accent is nearly identical to the accent found at the northernmost end of the mountain range. Crazy!

And no leaving TN!

you don't know what kind fo data collection! maybe TSL is just a front for a program that monitors, copies and sends back all our private data including all usernames and passwords for financial sites and such. Cat is collecting all that data and at a point in the near future the team will use it to steal all our money!

Now that would be suffer worthy!  ::)

The cats are adorable, but Immy seems quite put out with us right now :(

Dude, when we got Piper our old dog Sydney ignored us for a month.  She was so mad at us!  But she warmed up.  Immy will too. :)

You had a dog named Piper? That's the name of one of our dogs.

And cute kitties! :D

Awwwwww reminds me of when our cat Alex was little.

Now, he's big fat lazy and spoiled. But once upon a time he was all cute and little! (He's still cute I mean, or we'd have killed him for all his yowling while we sleep. :P)

This one is definitely a meow-er. But we think it's because she did come from a shelter and is attention starved. At least, we hope so...she's going to be a talker!

Alex yowls at night, but he seldom meows. Mostly he goes "merf"

Still do!  She's a fat lazy mama dog now, but we love her.

On that note, I am going to convince Darthkiwi to let me name our future cat Zarathustra. :D

Well, he learned to merf before he learned to meow, and he has never given it up. :P

I'm one of those peeps that grew up with dogs.  I've never actually had a cat before, and when there's one near me I kind of panic a little.  Seriously!  My friend Tara has one and every now and then she'll toss him at me just to see me flail about.  I don't really know how to act around them.

You love on them when they want it, and leave them alone when they don't. :P Seriously, we probably would have a dog, but we don't have a yard. I don't mind indoor dogs, but feel like we should have an outdoor space for them as well.

"How to act around them"? It's not a crying baby. :P You don't have to do anything with a cat, especially if you don't own it (if you own it, it is highly recommended to feed it....)
It will let you know when it wants attention and when it doesn't. Pet it if it does. If it doesn't, don't.

Some cats don't mind being cuddled when they're just lying there sleeping. :P *has been missing his cat lately*

I was at a friend's house about a week or so ago working on her computer when her cat jumped up on my lap and laid down. I started stroking his back and within a few seconds felt my legs vibrating with his purring. I like dogs and all, but they just don't have anything that can equal that.

A cat's purring is one of the most soothing sounds I know. :D

This (http://techcrunch.com/2009/06/08/os-x-snow-leopard-should-purr-along-with-a-smaller-footprint/) is probably not what you were looking for. :P

Here's a cheetah (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZFvULxbN3NM). Supposedly, snow leopards can't purr, but there seems to be some disagreement on this.

I'd rather handle a crying baby.  I was stuck in the infant room for half a year, I know exactly how to handle a screamer!

But cats, no.  They're freaky.

Babies aren't as scary/annoying as one might think.  I was terrified of them when I was first placed in the infant room, but after spending six months with them I think I can handle any screamer, pooper, difficult feeder, etc.
