Title: Re:Woot
Post by: Say on March 14, 2004, 08:29:57 AM
aw thanks, that was really cute.

seriously though the stress wont end here... this is just the beggining of a large amount of stress coming, first I give it in, they evaluate it and they say wether I can defend or not this semester, not only that, after that then comes the defense, which is a whole hour OF A DEBATE OF QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS about it... so yeah... *freaks out* this is only the beggining... hopefully :(

Don't worry, those two are the sole responsible for their amount of stress. After all, even I have survived education until my 21st year (not doubling even one year) so if I can do it, surely you must too. :-*

Technically, I haven't doubled a year either.  Just doubled a course. :P

Well, you're an accountant, IIRC, so you must have taken some kind of business degree or accounting degree, I would guess?

If I went to college, it would be for either a science, or computers.

With computers, I'd probably run into Yonkey's problem... esoteric math classes, and needing to keep current with classes. Plus a bunch of other weirdnesses I hear my CS major friends complaining about.

If I took a science, I suspect I'd almost certainly have to do a thesis, which I'd probably do terrible at.

Now, see, the problem wouldn't really be the research and writing and experimentation part and everything... I'm decent at that. Every time the teacher has made us write an essay on a given topic, or a choice from a list of topics, I did well.

No, the problem was when the teacher *didn't* give us anything to write about, and told us to just pick whatever topic we wanted. And I always did sucky because I inevitably floundered for ages then finally chose a topic that one, was nothing like what the other kids picked, and two, unfortunately was also completely not what the teacher was going for. :P That's not even factoring in that half the time it ended up being a topic too off-base to even be able to research and essay properly under the assignment guidelines. (sigh) I'm one of those people who detests the question "What do you want to say/do?" because I never can think of anything!

If I was a scientist or a computer person, I'd never be good at anything more than a lab tech type, doing the grunt work for other people. :P Actually, I'm not good at anything other than that in *any* field. I'm just incapable of coming up with something completely creative from just my own thoughts. I mean, if you tell me to do a task, great, I'll try and find the best way to do it. But if you ask me to think of what to do to begin with, I'm just terrible at it.

At least, er, I'm assuming the choice of thesis is entirely up to you. :P

Peace & Luv, Liz

k, well neil doesnt needs a degree cuz he's doing a technical career, Im doing a 5 year career (not tech) so I do need thesis and all that s*** I had to do even social work (wtf annoying) and internship, I did social work with the dean ;P lol he totally lubs me now and I did internship at a pc company from here (software/hardware) and my thesis yes, it was my free will, although you must get it approved or otherwise you cant move foward

Technically speaking, I'm a bookkeeper, but with a degree specialized in Accounting. In Belgium I can't call myself an accountant though, because that title is registered and can only be used by members of an accountant institution. Needless to say I'm not a member. I have a Bachelor degree in business management, bookkeeping-accountancy.

Quote from: Jeysie on March 15, 2004, 11:07:10 AMIf I took a science, I suspect I'd almost certainly have to do a thesis, which I'd probably do terrible at.
Even I had to do a sort of thesis at the end of my third Bachelor year, so don't think that's specific for science courses.

I did moderate at every essay I was given, always around 50%. I'm not good at writing essays, especially about a certain topic. When I can write freely, and go from one topic to another, I can type long essays, but not when I have to stick to one topic.

Quote from: Jeysie on March 15, 2004, 11:07:10 AM(sigh) I'm one of those people who detests the question "What do you want to say/do?" because I never can think of anything!
During the first 16/17 years of my life I also didn't know what I wanted to do. When I found out I was good at bookkeeping, I had a vague idea, and at the end of my scholarly career I had two options: government or on my own. I have no commercial talents, so the only feasible option was government and that I am now doing. 8)I

You do realize this is only strengthening my suspicion that I'd never survive college without going mad, right?

Heh. The only things I'm good at are being efficient and organized, and you don't need a degree to be a file clerk, so I guess going to college would be useless anyway. :P :-\

well if you're never going to try it you won't know it for sure do you (going mad and such ; ) ...hahaha, college isn't that bad, and if your intelligent (as you claimed earlier ; ) then there would be no problem at all.

My biggest problem is that I'm not organised at all (well, a bit ; ) ...so if you are, then you would probably preform better then I do ; )

There is no use to ponder about everyting that could go wrong. If you want to, please do it. And if you don't want to go to college, please don't ...hahaha sounds easy, just don't have any regrets later that you didn't went.

Ah, that explains your error. Anyway, I've always been good at spelling and English grammar just comes to me naturally. Must be because I've been watching BBC TV from when I was still much younger than I am now. Hence I was good at reading and speaking English too (and still am ofcourse, practice makes (keeps in this instance) perfect!). XB)

Hmm, strange, I normally only paste & copy quotes if I have more than 1 quote in 1 post, but this is just 1 quote, so the post I was referring to must have been moved by a moderator. What I don't get, is why my post hasn't been moved together with it. That, or my post has been moved from another thread into this one, but even that doesn't make any sense. ???

Title: Re:Woot

It's the only possibility, because I didn't move it and neither did Say.  ;D

Also, I've seen a few people delete their own posts before.  It's a little more obvious when you use e-mail notification for threads, because the link takes you to the same lastpost you've already read before.   :)

Yeah, I remember seeing board mods that will disallow users from deleting their own posts, polls, etc.  Personally, I'd rather give the user the choice to delete whatever they posted.

Btw, does that mean if you double posted on a phpBB somewhere, didn't notice and someone else replies, you cannot delete that second post? :S
Title: Re:Woot
Post by: Yonkey on March 20, 2004, 08:44:56 PM
Heh, I was actually going to delete copycat's post as soon as I noticed, but I figured this was the off-topic forum so there's no real need to.  That, and I found it kinda funny heheh XD

I understand what you mean about the whole "evidence" issue and such.  However, I'm pretty sure that if someone posts something obnoxious over here, at least one person will quote it and reply (physical evidence) and at least one person will see it and remember (witness).  If someone's really offended, they could click the Report to Moderator link and myself and Say will be notified immediately.  If no one sees the post, and/or no one is offended, then I don't see a problem with the user deleting their own post.  :)

Title: Re:Woot
Post by: Yonkey on March 20, 2004, 09:08:01 PM
I doubt it, you're still here!  XD  Anyway, almost everyone in our forums has said something "offensive" before, it's no big deal.  Or maybe it was a big deal at the time, but obviously nothing too serious.  There's also a difference between having creative differences & different opinions or beliefs, and being extremely rude and purposely obnoxious to people.

Like I said, we've never had anyone in that second category as of yet.  If a thread or discussion has turned that way, it usually gets locked or even deleted.  For a user to actually get banned, they would have to continuously act in this manner.  After a couple warnings, they're out.  ::)

It's never happened yet, and I hope it doesn't happen in the future, but you never know what kinds of users we may get in the future.  ;D

we are lucky to have such lovely friends around here, truth is that the offensive and nasty ugly part has come not from fans but from other places, this forum is very nice and friendly ( a bit insane though lol, but its all good ), so yes, I've dealt with pretty nasty crap before just not around these forums, and not with anyone around here.

I'm pleasantly surprised at how good-natured this board is. I've read and posted in a number message boards and newsgroups over the years, and almost all of them had at least a little bit of "ugliness". This one has hardly any. ...OK, so the fact that we rarely debate any "controversial" subjects might have a good deal to do with it, but still. ;)
