Title: Walking speed
Post by: Davidtry on July 10, 2010, 11:38:26 PM
Wasn't there in older kings quest games a speed adjustment for walking ? I looked for it in the menus but couldn't find it, that would be something I'd like to see. I was wandering in the courtyard for a while up and down the stairs and around that area wishing I could at least speed things up it was a little frustrating. I couldn't find the door back to the main entrance hall knowing i walked through it to get out there . It is hard to see. Love the game though!!!!

I think they didn't implement that in order to maintain the cinematic nature of the game. If you were speeding around like a hyperactive chipmunk, it would kind of lessen the amount of control they'd have over camera movements and such, and therefore lessen the effect. :)

There should be a feature where if you double-click on the area you want to go to (say you're at the intersection and want to go to the castle), it will take you there instantly so you don't have to wait for the character to walk there.  That would clear up the issue with the walking speed.

Wouldn't life me so much sweeter if you could double click your own body to be at home when you are in work  :suffer:

Maybe not quite so realistic though, you wouldnt be able to take in the scenery ;)

I know King Graham is in a rush to save his family, but he's getting on a bit! Don't think he can start speeding round Davnerty, he might do himself an injury! ;)

I think the speed is fine: it's quite soothing. What did irritate me a little was that Graham's walking animation seems just a tad... clompy. I didn't notice it at first but he kind of stamps along.

That would definitely make me laugh. XD

*changes settings to high speed*
"Ohh, my hip!"
"Poor Graham.  It seems he's fallen down and can't get up."

That being said, I thought it was a nice pace - not too slow, but not too fast either.

It's because he's annoyed! He was about to enjoy a wedding feast and then ends up getting dragged into an adventure ;)

What amusd me was the clipity clop noises of his feet, I let him walk down a path while I went to getmy drink and it matched my step  :suffer: the music in the background was like "Kim's Quest; In search of the cup of destiny" I felt like a heroine!  :suffer:

See that would be a good Easter Egg ;)

Speaking of controls in the game that should change, I think that it should be like Diablo, where you can hold down the left mouse button and move the mouse around to change Graham's direction. I tried that like 123948732948 times and still never quite remembered that it doesn't work, haha.

you always get that when you play different games that use different ways of moving. I do think a pathfinding might be usefull though, so i won't get stuck behind a piece of wall or anything  :)

Graham's walking had definitely improved since the demo, though.

He has arthritis in his knees these days, he can't help the clomping.

The game is short enough as it is, no need to walk faster.

Am I the only one where if I click to walk somewhere and then click the same spot again and again Graham disappears and teleports back to the original spot he started walking from before continuing on his path?

Ebenezer I can't seem to get that to happen, what screen are you seeing that in and how are you playing the game?  i.e. windowed/fullscreen, options, resolution, etc.

All screens.  Lets say for example I stand on the far left side of the screen, and click on the far right of the screen to move there.  If I click on the far right again in the same spot while Graham is midway there he'll disappear briefly and return to his original spot before continuing to the spot I clicked.  So basically if I wanted to I can keep clicking the same spot repeatedly and he'll never get there because he would keep disappearing and resetting to his original position before making it to his destination.

I'd like to attempt recreating what you're experiencing.  What are the specs on your computer and what setup are you using for the game configuration itself?
