So *that's* why Dasani always had a strange aftertaste! :o

I rarely drink it, but sometimes it's my only choice for water... :S
Title: Re:what a mess!
Post by: Say on March 21, 2004, 12:38:12 PM
do you really drink it?!, do not drink it... seriously hahaha when there are news like these you should -by all means- if you dont rather believe anything said, give it the benefit of doubt, its certainly not a kiddies story anyways, they lost millions on the process and they are taking it out of the market... so there is some truth to it.

Really, Bushie? There's a bunch of different water brands available where I am... Dasani is one, but Pacific Springs and Aquafina are popular too, plus some ittier brands I don't recall off-hand. (Adirondack is also popular, but that's just an NY State/Western MA brand, AFAIK.) Harrison drinks a lot of Aquafina since he needs to cart water around all the time for his singing stuff, but I just stick to our trusty Brita filter.

You can always just drink soda or juice if you're on the go and need a drink... just stay away from that diet stuff, fake sugar's not really good for you either. If you regularly need liquid, just cart around some Juicy Juice drink boxes or sports bottles with water or something. They might get a little warm, but warm water and juice usually aren't too bad to drink. (Warm soda, unfortunately, is usually pretty nasty tasting. :P )

they didnt even had time to expand that far because it didnt reach South America yet, and it was a complete fiasco  :-\

This is seriously odd, Coke has a much better bussiness field research than Pepsi or any other food company related!, its truly odd how can they freaking made such a bad move lol, shame on them! and I sort of looked up to them, this is a sad day for me :(

Yeah its only just launched this year in the UK so I don't think they'll ever try to launch water here again hehe unless of course they do it under a different name. Also thinking about this maybe theres a different standard of water here compared to other parts of the world? That amount of Bromite (??) may be acceptable somewhere else but not in the UK. I hardly ever buy bottled water though, a true rip off if ever there was one but if your thirsty and faced with drinking another bottle of tango I suppose its quite convienient. I like Volvic water the best, the adverts make me laugh.

I love filtered water, especially the kind we have at home. Too bad I can't afford one for the campus apartment as it is really expensive, but it is the kind you put on your faucet and it filters really well! Costs like $50 for the filter alone though. :S

Dasani seems to be the kind my family buys, mostly for trips and stuff, I've tried to tell them that it sucks but they won't listen. ;P Dasani and a lot of other bottled water tastes like soap when it gets warm, I'm not sure why... probably it's the "cleansers" they use.

'Spa' source water (with added sparkles ;D).
Besides, our tap water is perfectly drinkable too, too bad it doesn't have sparkles though. ::)
Title: Re:what a mess!
Post by: Jeysie on March 21, 2004, 02:28:37 PM
Bushie: Just get a Brita filter. They're not that expensive, and while they're a little less convenient they still do the trick.

As for the soapy thing... part of it might be the plastics in the bottle as well. I remember for a barbershop concert they had Nestle bottled water at the afterglow, and man, was it nasty. Had the same sort of taste when you accidentally get soapy bath water in your mouth... yuck.

Yes, we have one of those pitchers, works fine. ;) Still not an expert filter, but it beats lousy tap water. ;)

I love Brita water. It always tastes ever so slightly sweet and fresh when our hard tap water goes through it. Oh yeah do people in the US have flouride added to their water? We do here still but theres this big thing about it being dangerous and stuff. Like Dasani hehe.

Depends on the community, some places did, some didn't. (I remember the dentist telling my parents to have me take flouride supplements as a kid 'cause our water didn't.) It's possible that nobody does it anymore at this point, though.

;] ;] ...don't know about the handy part ; /

about linking to half way down the page; I had that question too, so I asked Yonkey ; ) ...he said that you have to post the messagenumber where you want to refer to. The best/easiest way to get to getthe messagenumber is to quote the post you want to refer to and then copy the reference to that post: ie. your messagereference is: #msg25560

just paste it behind the normal link of the page: http://www.postudios.com/blog/forum/index.php?board=10;action=display;threadid=902;start=0

There was a discussion a few months ago (could be even more, my internal dating system is faulty all the time) because supposedly we were getting too much fluoride into our body and that would cause fluorosis (?). Anyway, one of the sources of fluoride was tap water, but since I don't drink (that) much tap water, I didn't really pay a lot of attention to whether or not it was outlawed (adding fluoride to tap water). I'm pretty sure it isn't in (our) bottled water though.

supposedly the fluoride helps protect your teeth so you should drink it a bit more than bottled water ;D, thats what they said on the news in Australia ;B

For what it's worth, I took fluoride supplements and drank lots of milk as a kid, and my teeth are great. In fact, I used to be terrible at brushing as a kid, and up until recently I only brushed once a day. Yet I only got a cavity the once, and that was in a wisdom tooth that had grown in crooked enough to have one edge bumped up against my molar (and that edge got a cavity because it was impossible to clean in there). I have had a few problems with mildly inflamed gums, though, which is why I've started brushing twice a day and flossing and stuff. Still, maybe fluoride supplements and calcium intake do help, provided you don't overdose on either.

Peace & Luv, Liz

I've had to start flossing too  :o when I went to the dentisit for my check up she sent me to the dental hygenist and she showed how much crap you got off your teeth when you floss so I do it mostly everyday now. Kinda satisfying to feel the gaps between your teeth all pronounced and everything....lol how random - teeth!

We don't have that brand of bottled water here. We mostly get domestic brands, and they're all supposedly "natural spring water" and not filtered tap water  :-\
We did have many food-related scares and scandals though - the last one involved a brand of non-dairy baby formula, which lacked a certain vitamin (B2 IIRC). It caused many babies to have a deficiency disease, and a few of them died before it was pulled off the shelves :(

but seriously, isnt it a bit spooky? consider it, if big companies cant even be trusted on releasing these food products (first hand need as water) what there may be left for the rest? you know, as a consumer myself it worries me baaadly, because you tend to trust brand, and these sort of things make you wonder and doubt it all again.

omg... ew!

and this is not even talking about quality, we are talking about normal standarts lol :P oh my, personally I would have expected something like this from a newb in the market, but from Coke it is shocking alright, exactly cuz you asume you trust them, and exactly what you said, it does makes you wonder about the quality of their other products :(

and I mean it, I liked coke a lot lol  :-\

Urrrggghhh I tasted root beer Jelly-belly jelly beans the other day and I felt physically sick! I hope the real thing doesn't taste as nasty. Is it comparable to any other flavour or is it totally unique?
Title: Re:what a mess!
Post by: Jeysie on March 25, 2004, 10:43:47 AM
Honestly, I'm not quite sure how to describe the flavor. It's a bit on the tart side (which is where the slogan " Barq's has bite!" comes from, if you've ever heard that one), but I'm not certain what to say about it outside of that.

It is possible that it just may not suit your palate, just like cola doesn't suit mine. I've always found cola to be too bitter for my tastes.

Not when you take in too much flouride, because in that case it may well be it damages your teeth even further.

It depends on how much they put in the water I think. Like everything else in the world too much flouride has nasty effect on teeth and bones although I'm not sure of the specifics. We have flouride here and its caused no problems for e, in fact I'm proud of my teeth.
