I recently found out about Adventure Game Studio. Does anyone here have experience working with this program? If so, any tips? Is this the best program for creating a KQVI-like game? I'm thinking about tinkering around with it, so I'm currently reading tutorials.
Well, I don't know anything about actually programming with it, but it was used to make AGDI and IA's remakes, the Ben Jordan series, and A Tale of Two Kingdoms, among other games. So if you can figure it out, you should be able to make a good Sierra-style adventure game.
I found the scripting tutorial AGS provides, if it helps. I'm learning it myself.

I currently working on more basic tutorials, but thanks for the link. I'll check it out once I've figured out how to do more basic things.
It's the best program to create a game in the style of KQVI, however, start programming little games, very simple stuff, if you aim too high you will end up frustrated, good luck!
By the way, you should check some of the games created with AGS, a lot of them look and play almost like a professional game. If you like the KQ series you should play A Tale of Two Kingdoms: http://crystalshard.net/atotk.php Try to find some screenshots or videos, it looks great.
Wow. Looks extremely impressive.
I won't have trouble scripting games in AGS - for me, that's the easy part. It's just the background and sprites - I don't know how to make original work like that. Advice, anyone?
