Title: KQ9 and KQ2
Post by: DeLamon Interac on April 11, 2003, 10:42:32 PM
I have a question. Will Kings Quest 9: Every Cloak Has A Silver Lining feature "The Father" from Tierra's Kings Quest II: Romancing The Stones? That way we can find out who the father was. I know you'll have nothing to do with Tierra but could you like get up with Daniel Stacy or "The Wookie" and intagrate the whole "The Father" story into it? It would make for a fine endinf to the series. :D

unfortunately, we have our own version of the story and no father is in. Tierra wants to keep their plot, and we have as much information about who the father is as you do. So... no.

But you'll enjoy our story :)

Oh thats to bad. Just thought you'll should colaborate. I know it will be a good game any ways. Will it at least not conflict with KQ2VGA+?

Well we'll just have to see won't we. I hope that it dosen't conflict. But guess there's no telling. It comes out in 2004 right? thats what I've been hearing (reading) so hope it works out for you'll.

I must say that that is in no way definite by any means. Like Tierra and other fan projects, the game will be done "When it's Done." Unfortunately, we all have real lives which interfere with our assignments and thus are not able to work on the game at times. I myself have finals coming up, I've just completed 2 plays with 3 more going next week, and I have to convince my girlfriend's father that I'm not the Skelton family's answer to the Antichrist, so my RL plate's pretty full. However, I do at least set aside a few hours to write out dialogue a day, and my current work will soon be done. This game WILL come out...eventually.

As for KQ2+, I think that whether or not it will conflict is up to the interpretation of the player him/herself, and that is all I plan to say on it.

I don't see KQ2:RTS the same as KQ2:RTT. With that I mean: there's Sierra's KQ1-7 and MOE, and there's Tierra's KQ1VGA remake and KQ2:RTS. Those are two different things in my book. Since KQ9 continues on the Sierra-line, it cannot continue on the Tierra-line. So no conflict here.8)

Actually, the stories are vaguely similiar, (meaning kq2 and kq9). Like Tierra we build on the existing games plots. Tierra's kq2 was different, but stuck to the basic story, except for the vampire being a good guy and the added places to explore. I didn't like Sierra's kq2 ending, I thought Graham should confront Hagatha at the end, and he did in kq2vga.

So Grahim did confront Hagatha in the Crystal Tower, but where did she go after that confrontation? 8)

I really can't wait for Tierra to remake KQ3, that was a great game, and it could definitely use the upgrade into full VGA. :)

No one knows where Hagatha went (except Wookie, the writer, assuming he did decide).  He did saw though, that she ISN'T dead.

And hopefully, if/when Tierra remakes KQ3, I won't have any trouble anymore with a faulty edge-of-the-screen trick. And maybe they could do something about those cursed stairs too? 8)

I don't think you had to worry about falling off of the stairs in kq2vga. Now, kQ1, that beanstalk drove me nuts! Everywhere I moved to, I fell and died.

KQ3 VGA would be awesome to see, I'd *LOVE* that.  It'd be really cool to see how they did Mannanan close-up, too, since he's one we never saw for that.

I have always hated "stair" or "path" issues. The moutain in Llewdor, and the stairs to the dragon in KQ3, the mountain & stairs in KQ4, the poison-barb path in KQ2 (oy, am i glad I happened to save before i went on that!!). I hate those kinds of puzzles. Nothing to do with being a puzzle. Especially back when all you had were directional keys, oh man were those a b****!

Technically, we see a close-up of Manannan during the credits. ;)

As for who The Father is, it's hinted at in RTS that he's a very important member of the Black Cloak Society, if not their leader. We know his "real" name was Morgeilan (sp?) , the brother of Daventry's first king.

From what I've heard, there will be continuity issues between Kq2VGA and Kq9 (the fact that Kq2 assumes MoE happened a long time after Kq7, while Kq9 does not comes to mind), but, remember there were continuity issues in the official series (the land of the dead and the DoD, what exactly ghosts look like, the gnome race, etc.).

Certainly! Once it's...fnished. I didn't make it clear, did I? My bad. It's nearly finished, unfortunately I haven't had as much time as I'd like to work on it. My biggest problem right now is that I can't seem to get screenshots from MoE. Do you have any idea how I might go about getting them?

I don't have any myself, but you may ask TakariFreak or check out her kQ site that has recently gone up, I know she was looking for them. And you may try posting in off-topic and asking around for some. Do let us know when it's done!

Hey, it's Erpy!  Welcome to the KQ9 boards! :)

(I'm Daeyr at Tierra's boards)

And as is customary here, this is your official warning to be wary of killer monkeys ;-)

Erpy!!!
My favorite Tierra moderator! about time you got here :D
You're absolutly correct about the multiple writers problem - I heard the KQ9 team already had a difference of opinions about the story, which caused some problem for them... :-/

I wouldn't mind seeing a different "vision" than the one in KQ2+. It might be interesting... ;)
Also, as much as I did like the Wookie's story, the idea of "The Father" being the head of the BCS and causing each and every diseaster in Daventry didn't appeal to me very much, since I didn't like the concept of a head-villain-mastermind, and since the BCS itself isn't that big on the original games.
I guess it works better if "The Father" is introduced in KQ2+ (and maybe appear in other remakes) than put him in KQ9 and pretend he's been there all along ::)

It would kinda be like the movie version of Clue:

"That's what could have happened; now here's what really happened!"

;-)

Haha, that'd be a fun thing to do with a computer game - fake-out endings, or maybe the outcome honestly beign different (as in the bad guy and everything) depending on the player's actions. Has anyone done that?

...if not, it's mine! :D

Right now the Father is "sewing the spell to cause the heart to slow", in other words, Graham's heart. Now I'm not spoiling too much, but the beginning of KQ4 is basically when Graham starts suffering of old age problems, so maybe the Father will be more prominent in that remake.

Ok, I feel I need to reply here.

However, is hard for me to bring up my point of virew because that would reveal the story of KQ9, which I don't intend to do.

However, I must say that there's definetely no father at all in King's Quest IX, and I don't see it as a problem. Essentially, now that I learned that Father is pointed as founder of the BCS, I miust say the KQ9 and KQ2 stories clash, and a lot, but there's nothing we can do about that. I just expect that you guys can see it as two different stories and enjoy both. :)

I Don't see any reason WHY the 2 should co-incide wich each other.  In fact, I'd prefer it if they conclict in many ways.  WHY?  Becuse that way, we get to see more ideas, and it makes things more interesting.  They are two diffrernt fan games that just happen to be spun off of the same series.

Think of it as fanfiction (even though it is, but on a higher level).  People have different views on certain things.  Different imaginations.  Now, you don't just go reading one authors fanfiction about a certain subject do you?  No, you read many.  Why?  because it's fun to see different ideas.  They may not agree with your ideas about that subject, but that doesn't make you or them "right".

Besides, If stuff from KQ2+ WAS in KQ9, it'd take away half the fun.  Yeah, it would be nice to see a continuation of the Father story, but I'd rather hear it from the one who whote it in the first place, and not someone else.  That way we see it as it was intended to be seen.

And anway, dom't you all WANT to see the original ideas of the KQ9 team?  The more, the merrier.  Plus, we get to see more of KQ9's secret plot that way (the way it was intened, and will be!)

As I said before, I consider KQ2: RTS and KQ9 as two completely different things. KQ9 will tie up loose ends left from the original KQ 1-7 and MoE (yes, I deny the fact although it is clearly stated on my box too). KQ2:RTS has gone a different way starting from KQ2 so the rest of their remakes will have to be done accordingly.

QuoteNow let's be fair, NOTHING could be that horrendous!! Even an MOE rewrite

Further more, a MOE rewrite couldn't be worse than the original!;D

I was right when I thought that Morgeilan was the Father! yay! About MOE, in some of my fanfictions Connor makes an appearance, I give him some dimension and personality however. Got to work on my fanfictions, I've been a little stuck.

Yeah, poor Connor. It's not *his* fault he got stuck in a hated game. :-/

Connor's voice in kq2 vga is even more obnoxious and nerve-grating than it is in moe! I didn't think that was possible! I could barely stand to listen to it. If he talks like that, no wonder people want to kill him!

Post by: copycat on May 02, 2003, 04:04:01 PM
I'm a pacifist, whihc is why I don't want Connor to be killed. As far as I'm concerned, he can just stay up there in his Realm of the Sun beside his cherished Mask of Eternity and never come down again. I think that's punishment enough for his violent actions. 8)

agh!!

Why do these guys release the voice pack AFTER I'm done with the game?

Now I want to play it again with voice!

I didn't see any MOE Easter Eggs. Where are they? I want some.

As for KQ9 and Tierra stories, I'm starting to get somewhat annoyed at the people who believe that Tierra is God's gift to fangaming and anybody else who tries anything is just not good enough. One person on the Tierra boards even went straight out and said to me, "If Tierra were making KQ9, it would be out by now." I most definitely know that is the last thing that Tierra wants as well as the thing that every other fan team hates. I can already forsee people criticizing our game because "that's not how Tierra said it goes." That's total horse hockey. I mean, yeah, our stories are somewhat divergent, but you know what? It's fanfiction(squared), like everyone else says. I just hope the amount of people who berade us for being different from Tierra are small in number. We are truly in the process of creating an excellent game, IMO, and it will be an experience even for me to play it. IMO, anybody who decides to cheat themselves out of the experience simply for coming up with our own concepts can just take a long walk off a short pier.

...and should carry plenty of heavy rocks with him to get the job done sooner.

I remember that post you mentioned. I'm glad he apologized afterwards. It's okay to favor one team over the other. People can have their preferences. But when fans start "Tierra vs. (insert other team here)"-discussions, things get ugly and this positive little trait called devotion suddenly becomes a negative thing. (so I generally try to keep negative talk about other projects off the forums)

Since most fan-projects have overlapping fanbases, the typical "us and them"-talk tends to result in the loss of fans on both sides.

I shudder when I recall all the "Hero6 vs. Tierra"-threads that have been started within the past few years.
