Title: Ochestration
Post by: sivvrianBARRY on March 27, 2004, 03:33:10 PM
I remember reading earlier that the music in KQ9 is going to be fully ochestrated. Is this still true? How are you planning to do this? Do you know of an orchestra willing to do this (for free or money)? I guess I just want to know general info about this because the topic fascinates me.

Hmm, I remember someone saying that the style of music will be orchestral, but I don't know about the "fully orchestrated" part.  As far as I know, the music is being done digitally, and definitely not by an orchestra but by our own Music department.  :)

Oh, that makes a lot more sense.

For some reason I have a picture of someone asking if the music would be synthesized and there was a reply that said it was orchestrated. I guess I should read more carefully  ;-D

Most of the music will definitely be digital.  But, depending on our composer's whims, if there are real instruments that he/she (I say both because we have had a few people devote time to the music for this game) wants to play or has friends that can play, then they will be recorded to go along with the digital instruments.  This is quite common, actually.  Plus, it would be nice to have real voices in the game if we can get them (if there are parts that call for choirs and/or solos).

But definitely mostly digital.

May I suggest the epic, Hans Zimmer style?  A-la Gladiator.  I think that certainly fits the mood.  No, I don't mean bring in a big name composer, but that sort of style is really great for a game like this.

Cesar is all about huge, lush, orchestral sounding music.  So you can rest assure, Hans Zimmer, Jerry Goldsmith, Danny Elfman, Howard Shore, you name the composer, some similar style will probably be thrown in there ;).
