Pick your three favorite new voice actors in Episode 2.

Katie, I forgot a certain evil wizard on the original poll, so I made a new one because I could not modify it. Can you please revote and delete the original poll? Thanks.

Remember, if you pick "Other", please specify. ;D

I love the White Knight's voice :)

I did too, but all of his lines followed the pattern of "That's right", followed by a repetition of what the Red Knight just said. That annoyed me...

I picked the White Knight as my third favorite.  He cracked me up, constantly repeating everything.

The other two picks were Alexander and Manannan.  I really liked Alexander's voice (though it was only a brief scene he was in.)  You guys really seem to have done a great job casting the voices of the royal family.  Graham is just spot on and Alexander is as I imagined he'd sound.  I can't wait to finally hear what Rosella sounds like.

And of course Manannan's "Gwydion..." gets him listed too.

This was tough...

I though M. Fortunato turned in the best performance as Alexander, so I had to give him one of my votes, then I also thought the Ranger gave a noteworthy performance, and then I voted for Hole in the Wall because I thought it was hilarious that Cez did so well when he isn't even a voice actor. :P

But I also liked a lot of the others, like the white knight and the guard dogs and the lamp peddler..

I thought Fortunato did a fantastic performance. When Episode 1 came out, I had expressed how I felt about Oberon/Arch Druid's voice actor. I don't mean any offense, but I didn't think he differentiated his roles as both characters, however, I could tell that Fortunato had really pulled off an emotional performance. Without going into details (to avoid severe spoilers), I found the performance to be rather convincing. I have to applaud the great job that he did. Bravo!

I liked The Ranger's voice actor. While it sounded unoriginal, it fit the character. I imagined The Ranger's voice being unoriginal.  :P

That dark wizard did a good job too. Wow, I'm still blown away by that last cutscene.

I also have to tip my hat off to Cesar. He did a great job for Hole-In-The-Wall. I never thought I'd say that.  ::)

By the way, I don't see Shamir on the list.

Technically he spoke in the opening moments of Episode 1.

Also, honorable mention goes to the Clinging Vines.  The two women who did the voices for them, were very good.  And the voice editing made them sound very creepy.  There's something about two voices speaking in unison, or almost-unison that is just creepy.  Especially when they want to play with you.  And their play involves strangling the life out of you.

If we're including characters from the intro, than Edgar. (Also, voted for Alexander, Manannan, and the Ranger)

It was Hagatha and Manannan. So you already have one of them, you just need Hagatha.

I was annoyed by Black Widow's "slip-ups". She would say, "You're so delicious, . . . uh, I mean handsome." I understand it was based off of how she acted in KQ6, but she didn't have much dialogue in KQ6. I think I was overwhelmed with the constant "slip-ups". By the end, I was like, "I get it, you want to eat me. Quit the 'innocent' facade."

I thought those slip-up/corrections were okay from a dialog writing standpoint--a clever idea, if a little cliche--but from a voice acting standpoint, I thought Black Widow was one of the distinct low points of the episode.

Jollo, on the other hand, was amazingly good.  The voice was a dead ringer for his voice in KQ6, which was awesome, and I thought his lines were particularly well delivered.  The lamp seller was another voice acting highlight.

I agree for all accounts. Black Widow wasn't that good, but Jollo was pretty darn accurate. The difference is noticeable, but it's not bad at all. I also feel like Jollo's dialogue was obscure from what his dialogue was like in KQ6. Jollo had a very intense sense of humor in Episode 2 (with the detachable-arm trick, and his "Don't abandon me!" gag). Maybe because Cassima was captive in KQ6, Jollo held a more serious demeanor, but I see this "new side" of him to be refreshing, but at the same time, foreign. Regardless, the voice acting was better than I could have imagined for Jollo's character. Awesome work!

When I was playing through it again recently, I was actually pleasantly surprised by the map seller's voice work. I'm not even sure I'd ever played through and talked to him before, or at least not in a very long time, but I was impressed. :)

I have to admit I liked the ranger's voice, but I should do another playthrough before casting any sort of votes.
Title: Re: POLL: New voice actors in Episode 2 [SPOILERS]

I also thought it was a little odd that Black Widow has a human face on the underside of her spider head--in such a configuration so that her spider fangs look like horns.  Very strange.   In KQ6, she's just a talking spider without the anthropomorphised features, and it looks a lot more natural, in my opinion.   :)

Back to voices, I think the Black Widow voice needed to be older and more sultry.  The actor in the game to me seems like an early 20-something putting on a fake "older" voice.  But anyway, most of the voices for other supporting characters range from pretty good to really impressive.

Shamir's voice is another low point, in my opinion--I think the delivery of his lines sounds very much like someone reading off a page rather than speaking real dialog, and you can tell that the person doing it is raising their voice to an unnatural pitch.  I won't even bother elaborating on the awkwardness of the fake accent.  It's especially unfortunate because he reveals a lot of interesting plot points and backstory, and the awkward voice acting is very distracting, particularly during that initial conversation with Graham.  Those kinds of things stand out in stark contrast to some of the much more professional sounding characters (like Graham.)

Other than Shamir and Black Widow, the episode 2 voice acting seems to be a sight better than Episode 1, and most of it, Graham especially, sounds great.

I haven't had a chance to finish the episode yet, so I'm sure I'll have more commentary and nitpicks as new characters continue to pop up.  ;)

I agree that Graham's voice fits very well. My only criticism about Graham is that some of his lines (for example, "I do not wish to wake them up" on the IoW) sound as if Mr. Victor was nasally congested on the day that he recorded them and stick out from his regular speaking voice.

He does have a great voice, and one that would also be very well suited to Indiana Jones, in my opinion, particularly if he could pull off a slightly cockier vocal swagger.  He really does bring out the best in the sometimes wooden dialog here.

That was actually the results of a recording on his own with no direction, and a bad mic. Missing lines from the recent recording sessions when Mike flew to New York, unfortunately.

I have to agree with the voice on Shamir, tbh. I wasn't too happy with it. It just was a bad casting choice, which was the result of Shamir only having one line originally (the opening of chapter 1) to then later having these many lines. I got used to it the more I heard him, but I always thought it was a low point in the casting.

However, Todd is a VERY good actor when cast correctly. His performance of Manannan was amazing!

I thought Tammy did an excellent job as the Black Widow, too, but we did have to lower her tone, because of her high pitched voice.

Just as an interesting and shameful note, no filters were applied to my voice. That came out just the way it was recorded for the Hole in the Wall :P

Yeah... when I heard that, I was like.... no, Mikey. That doesn't work outside of a Broadway show. Let's get more raw emotion going there. He did an amazing job after I sent him a recording of what I thought Alex should sound like in that particular scene.

I don't think we need to be critical of Alexander. Not after hearing Mike portray him, IMO, flawlessly. I'd say that out of the VA's I've heard so far, the two best casted are by far Alexander and Graham. I mean, they fit exactly how I imagine they'd sound. And it's fun listening to the really early audio clips you guys released YEARS ago between Graham and Edgar (I LOVE THAT ONE...) and Alexander and Sarah. I've got them both on my ipod (sad, I know, but I just can't help myself!)

As true as that is, I think he put a helluva a performance to back up the importance of his character. Unlike what we were talking about with the Arch Druid, Shamir, and the Black Widow, Mike really put some emotion into his roles. I could tell that it wasn't just some guy behind a mic with a script. He was literally playing Alexander. Nicely done!

Personally, I wasn't a big fan of the Graham/Edgar conversation.  I found it needlessly emotional and out of character, especially when Graham starts playing psychoanalyst on Edgar--"remember when you were kidnapped as an infant and raised by the evil sorceress, Lolotte?  How did that make you feel?"  Lol.  Also, Edgar's story about watching Alexander bathe in the ocean with his shirt off was honestly kinda creepy.   :o  hehe

Now that I remember, we actually recorded the lines here at my place when Mike came to visit me two months ago. That performance was recorded like 5 times, and we ended up using a mix of many lines. It was too important to me to get it to be flawlessly good. I was obsessed with getting it right. I felt we owed that to the fans because of the intensity of the moment.

And believe me, you delivered. I was stunned.

:o OMG, Mike was Jollo and the peddler man, while doing Alex! I'm floored! I guess I need to pay more attention to the credits next time. I remember listening to an only recording with Alexander and Sarah, and when I actually spoke to the team on Skype and heard Mike, I was stunned that I was talking to the new Alex.

I had the exact same thought talking to him over Skype. I was like "Holy crap. It's alexander. I'M TALKING TO ALEXANDER!"

lol he wasn't really trying to psychoanalyze Edgar hehe. One thing I personally tried to portray in this game was how Graham feels about failing Alexander, since that's the one time when he has failed a family member so badly. The question is more to try to understand what his son went through.

Graham/Edgar was one of my fav moments, as it is Graham/Cassima in a following episode. I like chatty conversations that go into the character's personalities.

Yep, I think I smiled the whole way through that one too. It was that, or I was just so surprised that I was actually on the team. That was a long time ago.  :P

I can agree that that one bit was creepy. The only reason I decided to continue listening to that part was to see if the story was going somewhere with it. Unfortunately, I listened to the entire scenario to find out that it was unnecessary.

I thought there was something personal with Graham asking Edgar about his past though. Graham has already said that he doesn't connect to his son as well as he does his daughter. He's probably concerned about what Alex may be thinking and what he went through. I got the same feeling when he was asking Ali about Alex and what he liked to read. Maybe Graham just wants to get to know his son in a way that he couldn't for 18 years. But as Edgar said, his experience wasn't in any way related to Alexander's experience.

;)  I know.  I'm just kidding around.  I did have to chuckle to myself about the idea of Edgar spying on Alexander while bathing, but that was more my own juvenile mind than the way it came across in the actual game.  ;)

Bad image.

I wasn't that disturbed by the conversation. Edgar was just walking the beach, while Rosella did girl stuff. Alex happens to be chilling by himself when Edgar comes along and sees the scars. My hands are all scarred up from the stupid stuff I do, and people are always asking about them and how I did it.

The conversation with Edgar I felt was also necessary to let the players know/remind them of how evil Manannan was to Alex (the whole thing about scars). I figured some people wouldn't even remember Manannan, or maybe never played KQ3, so I wanted to build up around it so that later it had a much more emotional impact.

It was definitely a powerful moment for me. KQ3 never really elaborated on how badly Manannan treated him, but hearing that stuff now is just really powerful. The saddest part is that I can believe every word of that. tsk tsk, manannan. What a naughty wizard you've been.

I can see that. I guess it was the delivery of the concept that got me questioning the scene. I can see how Edgar could have unintentionally "spied" on Alexander in passing and see the scars, thus sparking concern for his well-being. I just got blindsided by the circumstances.

Lol...you guys.  I get what you were trying to do--personally I think it was a little ham-fisted in its execution--but I get it.  It sorta tries to slap you in the face with the gravitas--which of course ultimately diffuses it and robs it of its intended emotional weight.  But the back story is interesting enough.  I just think that sometimes the implications of abuse are more powerful than actually saying "hey, look at those scars on Alex's back!  Those scars came from a whip!  Alexander was whipped by his former master!  Oh by the way did I mention he was a slave?  Well he was.  A slave to a wizard.  An evil one.  Oh, and he was topless, that's how I saw the scars.  The ones made by the whip."  ;)

To be fair, I did like the contrast between Edgar's kidnapping and childhood vs. Alexander's.  It's not something everyone would think about, even if they had played all the KQ games before.

I like him as a villain. I think he'll be an excellent villain in TSL. I liked Mordack, but I don't think he's done enough as a villain to be considered a "true" threat. I mean, he got defeated by a wand that was powered by cheese. Not cool, Mordack. Not cool!

That stupid cheese puzzle. The point in the game when Manannan was talking to Alexander sent major flashbacks to me and the point at the end when Alexander is screaming sent chills through my body. It is time for my game face.

I swear, my jaw literally dropped when I heard "Gwydion!?" and then that close-up on Alexander's face. I kept thinking, "No way! But how . . ." I have the worst fear that something might happen to Alexander. I don't think he'll be harmed physically, but most definitely mentally.

Totally agree. I haven't really gone through the other episodes, trying to bring fresh eyes to the beta testing process, but I am worried about Alexander, if Manannan has escaped then we are in trouble.

I did too, but all of his lines followed the pattern of "That's right", followed by a repetition of what the Red Knight just said. That annoyed me...
That was actually a big part of what I liked about him.
especially when he starts to agree that it's his fault!
Thanks folks, I'm glad I did the part justice :)

Thanks Katie!  And here I was, all nervous that this was my first real voice acting gig and I'd blow it.  When I first started watching the preview video for Episode 2, I almost half expected to see the White Knight with a different voice!
