I don't want to seem intrusive/prying or anything; I just thought it would be an interesting idea. Post if you have something cool you'd like to show off.
I'll start.
I don't have a background at the moment (My desktop is messy enough as it is XD), but I usually just have a nice, simple background of stars, like this one from the end of QFG2.
That's cool. I sometimes just take a high quality picture whose colors I like and pixelize it so that it consists of 1 inch squares. There's definitely some charm to pixel-y images. For example, I made this one:
The background on my desktop is the same as Doon's, but my laptop has this.
My desktop I keep completely clean of icons (even edited the Recyle bin so it won't show) but my laptop is sadly not kept to the same standard.
Found this somewhere, thought it was funny, desktop'd it.
Love that one :)
Mine is the background Doon made from the background at the PO Studios home page (the trees with the colored lines & lights). At work it's the overview image of the Isle of the Crown.
Who's that on the right?
And I'm really happy to hear that you're using my wallpapers, Katie! ;D
They're good wallpapers!
I believe that's the Count punching out Edward Cullen :)
You guys have phenomenal concept art. That's what makes the wallpaper.
Also, LOL RE:Cullen.
Right now, I have a simple Harry Potter background I drew when I was experimenting with my tablet. It matches the rest of the theme I have.
Mine is a picture of Devils tower with the Milky Way arm band stretched over the top of it. My work computer is the boring blue screen.
Mine is black. just a plain black background for the sake of simplicity.
and my screensaver is a BSoD!

it would appear so, yes.
Yup, it's from the floppy version; I just thought the sunset looked particularly beautiful on it (that, and it gave me enough black space to put icons for all of my adventure games!):

My doggies, it's the last picture we took of our dog Sydney (the brown and white one) before she died.

what distro is that?
Linux Mint, based on Ubuntu!
http://www.linuxmint.com/
I've been using it for a little more than a year. I'm actually a Linux newbie :P I'm still learning the basics, so Windows is for gaming, everything else is with Linux. Didn't have much luck with Wine, maybe if I give it more time. What's your distro?

Ahh... mint.
I use arch every day, all day, for everything.
A little more advanced and hard to use, but also simpler code and programming wise. it runs really efficiently and has really good repos and the best package manager ever made (pacman).
Did you ever post in my Linux thread? the compatibility with wine thing? post your computer specs, error messages, approach to getting it to work, wine version, hair color, etc in my thread and I will try to help you.
Arch Linux. I'm probably going to out of my league if I ever try this! I barely use the terminal!
I just read your Linux thread. Sure! I'll give TSL a try someday and give you the results. It will be nice to contribute to Wine HQ App DB... For course, I have to finished TSL:EP2 first ;)

I heart the terminal.
guis are such a waste of time once you get used to typing simple commands to do everything.
after you try it, post in my thread. for me, it works perfect as far as I can tell. (after installing wine 1.3.2, winetricks, and installing msi2 and dotnet20 through winetricks)
if you don't know how to do all that, let me know in my thread and I will sum it up in a more noob friendly way.
No problem. Give it a week or two, so stay tuned.

It's Konata from Lucky Star. She's really into computer games (among other things) and tends to be lazy and sleep a lot, so it really fits her image. :)

So... what do you think of KDE?
nice features, but bloated and not well executed.
Unless that has changed in the last few versions. the arch distro of gnome is my favorite. stock, xfce is my favorite.
if you go really minimal, I like JWM/joes window manager. or eJWM:
http://crusader.jbusers.com/blog/?p=141
(that is my friends blog, not mine. but he kinda coined the term ejwm)
Mine is the image of the Isle of the Crown wallpaper. I should get a newer one though -- I usually change it up every month or so.

I had to manually widen it to make it fit wide screen >.> I'm a BIG fan of the DS game Phoenix Wright Ace Attorney :) My favorite character being Godot The handsome prosecutor in the 3rd game that stole my soul and replaced it with a late :sweetheart: He's so hot.... :D

Uh- I regularly purge my desktop cause it gets over loaded with images so that was it on a REALLY good day. Right now, my desktop is 50% full of art files >.>
Godot is VERY hot ;) I like his.... spoiler self SLIGHTLY better, but here's his in game animations (http://www.court-records.net/animation/aa-godot.htm). He's suave, and drinks coffee, and is a complete smooth talker... and he calls girls Kitten *u* *turns into a pile of goo* Um... if you don't mind a spoiler for the game, this is the version of him I like the most ;) (http://www.court-records.net/animation/aa-armando.htm) the main character of the game Phoenix Wright (http://www.court-records.net/animation/aa-phoenix.htm) is my second favourite.
Ironically, I actually ended up changing my wallpaper tonight; now it's Naru Narusegawa from Love Hina. Looks blurrier in the screenshot than it does on my desktop.
Pretty, Enchantermon! :)
Thanks; I really like it. It's one of the more tasteful ones I've been able to find from Love Hina; lots of them tend to be more revealing than I'm comfortable with.

I am not a big desktop icon fan. On linux I don't have any either. On windows I have the start menu that has all the programs I need and openoffice and chromium are down there on the quick launch and those are what I use mostly on windows anyway. (and itunes but that opens when I plug my ipod in and thats the only time I ever use it. plus its in the start menu.
it looks so much fresher without icons, imo.

That it does, my friend, that it does. I was just concerned because you said you rarely use that computer, I thought you had nothing loaded onto it. :)
Mean Windows trick (particularly for an inexperienced computer user):
Take a screen shot of the desktop (with icons) and make it the desktop background.
Hide the icons from the desktop.
Lol, when I first discovered screenshots on Windows, I iteratively repeated that process and created lots and lots of decoy icons. You can do the same thing with iOS devices now by pressing power and home and the same time.
on my old windows install I did exactly that. I had like 3 icons, but most of them were fake and the screen was filled with them. mostly just to mess with others who use my computer.
Lol, that was an advanced security measure back in the day...
My current wallpaper. :)
