I don't think there is any live counter for fans to see. We just have to take their word for it.

We are currently very close to 10K downloads, actually. :)
Now, is that number of times the Episode 2 download link has been clicked, or the number of users who have downloaded Episode 2?
Because there is likely a difference (though I'm unsure of its magnitude), seeing as many users (such as Haids) had to download a couple of times before getting it to run.
And is that only full downoloads?
Because I know my first attempt got interrupted so I had to download it twice.... :\

It's the number of downloads....I don't know if it covers partial downloads or not, though.
So by "downloads", you're referring to clicks of the download button, not number of unique users. Got it.
