umm yeah.  I believe in God.  but i don't really like to try and classify religions or identify people by them.  I'm also not very religious.  I still believe in God and a lot of the basic Christian stuff.  I just don't like a lot of the organized religion that goes with it. (for a lot of reasons)

edit: what a weird way to start off hero's thread.  I guess we can keep this up till he gets here
Title: Re: Hero's Thread!

Christianity should be more of a relationship with God than a religion anyway, really. That said, I don't have a problem with organized religion, as long as the focus remains on God and not on man.

I was baptized at an Episcopal church when I was 5, but I've been going to a Presbyterian church since I was 19.  I'm not one of those crazy radical Christians, but I've gotten a lot stronger and more comfortable in my faith since I was young.  In fact, the Chronicles of Narnia are part of my testimony.  That's why I have the lamp post and the "Aslan is on the move" tattoos.

I'm so happy to find other Christian forumers!  :sweetheart:

Nice! I never hide it, but I also don't usually mention it unless the situation calls for it because it's really easy to start nasty arguments about on the internet, especially when discussing religion or politics (though this place is a lot kinder than most of the forums I've seen).

Since this is a a thread about The Hero, I thought I would make an observation......

There's roughly a billion songs about heroism, but I only know of six (offhand) that have the word "Hero" in the title.

Atheism interests me.

I don't agree with it, but the theory/beliefs are very interesting to me for some reason.

makes sense that there would be a lot actually.  No beliefs or religion to go with it so none of that to worry about. :P

I'm spiritual... but I've left "organized religion" behind when I realized (a) organized religion is SOMETIMES controlled by people who sincerely want and desire power for themselves ("In the Hands of an Angry God, for example)... Please note I said SOMETIMES and (b) never really felt what organized religion offered allowed me that spirituality that I can achieve on my own.

Plus, I have incredible faith in God... I don't align him with any specific religion... I just believe in God and that ALL religions have valuable aspects to teach about him (I also kind of believe that all religions are speaking to the SAME higher source, whether they like it or not... so, fighting religious wars are silly).

I value Jesus Christ and do believe he is a messenger of God... if not, he was at the very least, a valuable teacher and inspiration.

I live in the chapel of my mind... I meditate, I believe, and I'm spiritual. :-)

Wow, this is not really "hero's thread" is it? It's a religious discussion!

we could always make most of these posts into a new topic.  can't you do that?  like starting with my post or haids' post on page 1.

after all this was meant to be Hero's thread.  he hasn't seen it yet though, lol.
maybe he will join in and want the discussion to continue.  never know.

I got the vibe from koko that it isn't necessarily the thread... but the topic being controversial?

I dunno, I could be wrong.

Yeah, we have a rule that's been in effect since I joined which is generally no religion, no politics. Those are two topics that just can become so argumentative pretty quickly :)

Took me a sec to realize why that looked so weird to me... then I realized you actually said koko (nothing wrong with that, just catches me off guard every time, like when someone actually calls me tessspoon) :P

But yeah, I'm interested in seeing Hero's reaction to having a thread that's already almost 2 page long XD

...which, as I mentioned earlier, is why I tend not to bring them up. But I didn't know there was a rule about it here. My apologies.

Where are the forum rules, anyway?

Post by: koko_99_2001 on October 02, 2010, 09:28:08 PM
Not a problem at all :) I just felt like the subject could go south pretty quickly. And it's a rule that we don't jump out and say "you can't talk about this!" but when we see a topic veering towards argumentative, we try to discourage it. :)

I thought there was a rule thread somewhere...let me see if I can find it.

I live a wonderful and fulfilling life as an atheist. :P

Ditto!  ;D

I used to be a Christian in high school. I kept to myself, and did my best to avoid the stricter policies of organized religion. Then I started getting intrigued with religions from different cultures. I studied Buddhism, Islam, Judaism, Taoism, Hinduism, and Shinto. While, I never became a "follower" per se, it was the actual learning process that opened my mind to religion and the perception that each religion provides. I was content as a Christian, but I wasn't looking for happiness or acceptance, I was truly looking for an explanation. Thus, I became an atheist.  ::)

Although, I'm a non-believer, I have respect for those who do believe, and would not want to take away from their faith in any way, shape, or form. Faith can do a lot for oneself, but in reality, it's the most fragile thing one can bear. There's a reason why people can get easily offended when arguing about religion. To each their own is all I can say.

Foo Fighters - My Hero

Too alarming now to talk about
Take your pictures down and shake it out
Truth or consequence, say it aloud
Use that evidence, race it around

There goes my hero
Watch him as he goes
There goes my hero
He's ordinary

Don't the best of them bleed it out
While the rest of them peter out
Truth or consequence, say it aloud
Use that evidence, race it around

There goes my hero
Watch him as he goes
There goes my hero
He's ordinary

Kudos my hero leaving all the best
You know my hero, the one that's on

There goes my hero
Watch him as he goes
There goes my hero
He's ordinary

There goes my hero
Watch him as he goes
There goes my hero
He's ordinary

I'm a big Darren Hayes fan, and his song "Hero" is pretty excellent.

Darren Hayes - Hero

Outside confidence is king
I am all that you're projecting
Inside feel the rising tide
And the revolution's deafening

I was trying to hide my opposing side
Trying to reconcile my Jekyll and Hyde

Ladies and gentlemen listen up please
I don't want to be your hero
(No, I am not open parts of me are broken)
Do yourself a favor
Save yourself
Don't pick me find someone else
(Why'd you want to bother find yourself another)

Sometimes you put all of your desires in an object of affection
But in time because you idolise there is only disappointment

I was flying so high in your perfect sky
But I needed to fall, cannot have it all

Ladies and gentlemen listen up please
I don't want to be your hero
(No, I am not open parts of me are broken)
Do yourself a favor
Save yourself
Don't pick me find someone else
(Why'd you want to bother find yourself another)

Ladies and gentlemen listen up please
I don't want to be your hero
(No, I am not open parts of me are broken)
Do yourself a favor
Save yourself
Don't pick me find someone else
(Why'd you want to bother find yourself another)

Don't need to compromise
I don't need to occupy the floor
There's a danger in boxing in my sin
And all that I am..

It's too much pressure
I'll only let you down again
(No, I am not open parts of me are broken)
It's too much pressure
I'll only let you down again
(Why'd you want to bother find yourself another)

Ladies and gentlemen listen up please
I don't want to be your hero
(No, I am not open parts of me are broken)

It's too much pressure
I'll only let you down again
(No, I am not open parts of me are broken)

School House Rock - My Hero, Zero
Zero?

Yeah, zero is a wonderful thing
In fact, zero is my hero!

How can zero be a hero?

Well, there are all kinds of heroes, you know
A man can get to be a hero
For a famous battle he fought
Or by studying very hard
And becoming a weightless astronaut

And then there are heroes of other sorts
Like the heroes we know from watching sports
But a hero doesn't have to be a grown up person, you know
A hero can be a very big dog
Who comes to your rescue
Or a very little boy who's smart enough to know what to do

But let me tell you about my favorite hero

My hero, zero, such a funny little hero
But until you came along
We counted on our fingers and toes
Now you're here to stay
And nobody really knows
How wonderful you are
Why we could never reach a star
Without you, zero, my hero
How wonderful you are

What's so wonderful about a zero?
It's nothing, isn't it?

Sure, it represents nothing alone

But place a zero after 1
And you've got yourself a 10
See how important that is?
When you run out of digits
You can start all over again
See how convenient that is?

That's why with only ten digits including zero
You can count as high as you could ever go . . .
Forever, towards infinity
No one ever gets there, but you could try

With 10 billion zeros
From the cavemen until the heroes
Who invented you
They counted on their fingers and toes
And maybe some sticks and stones, or rocks and bones
And their neighbors' toes
You're here
And nobody really knows
How wonderful you are
Why we could never reach the star
Without you, zero, my hero
Zero, how wonderful you are

Place one zero after any number
And you've multiplied that number by 10
See how easy that is
Place two zeros after any number
And you've multiplied that number by 100
See how simple that is
Place three zeros after any number
And you've multiplied that number by 1,000

Et cetera, et cetera, ad infinitum, ad astra, forever and ever
With zero, my hero, how wonderful you are

Zero to Hero (Hercules Soundtrack)

Bless my soul
Herc was on a roll
Person of the week in evry Greek opinion poll
What a pro
Herc could stop a show
Point him at a monster and you're talking SRO
He was a no one
A zero, zero
Now he's a honcho
He's a hero
Here was a kid with his act down pat
From zero to hero in no time flat
Zero to hero just like that

When he smiled
The girls went wild with
oohs and aahs
And they slapped his face
On ev'ry vase
(on ev'ry "vase")

From appearance fees and royalties
Our Herc had cash to burn
Now nouveau riche and famous
He could tell you
What the Greek'should earn.

Say amen
There he goes again
Sweet and undefeated
And an awesome 10 for 10
Folks lined up
Just to watch him flex
And this perfect package
packed a pair of pretty pecs

Hercie, he comes
He sees, he conquers
Honey, the crowds were
Going bonkers
He showed the moxie brains, and spunk
From zero to hero a major hunk
Zero to hero and who'da thunk

Who put the glad in gladiator?
Hercules!
Whose daring deeds are great theater?
Hercules
Isn't he bold?
No one braver
Isn't he sweet
Our fav'rite flavor
Hercules, Hercules,
Hercules, Hercules
Hercules, Hercules

Bless my soul
Herc was on a roll
Undefeated
Riding high
And the nicest guy
not conceited

He was a nothin'
A zero, zero
Now he's a honcho
He's a hero

He hit the heights at breakneck speed
From zero to hero
Herc is a hero
Now he's a hero
Yes indeed!

I would guess ignore it - unless it happens again. Changing your password sounds like a good course of action. You might want to run some antivirus/antispyware checks on your computer to make sure they're not getting your login info from there. Some people do stupid things - sorry you got hacked. :(

if that is the case, changing your password should do just fine.

if not, it should still work.
it happens.  wordpress is pretty stable/secure though. I used to host lots of websites using it.

Hero, if it's just the one time I think you should just keep doing what you're doing now that you've changed passwords. Don't let the a**wads get to you.

this.

Honestly it happens.  if it happens again (with the same kind of thing at least) it is worth further investigation.

Title: Re: Hero's Thread!
Post by: Enchantermon on October 09, 2010, 10:44:41 AM
Yeah, it's probably best to clear them if they don't contain anything you're going to make available anymore. It would probably be good to back it all up first, though, just in case. Of course, for the FTP, you could just change the password and/or deny everyone (except yourself, of course) access to all of the contents.

how would i do that? deny access to everyone but me that is

I don't know; it depends on who is hosting your FTP. Presumably, they should have an option somewhere to make files private. Check their FAQs and support forums or Google it.
