Title: Thank you Phoenix
Post by: jazzguy+87 on December 03, 2010, 07:30:29 AM
I've never posted here, but I've been following for at least six years!  I have played all of the king's quest games growing up from the time I was 5!  (I was negative3 when Quest for the Crown came out!)

I've just finished playing episode two, and I am very happy with all of the wonderful work the team here has pulled off..

When I played episode one, I must admit I was a little concerned.  The lack of game play Vs. the underdeveloped narrative had me concerned about how much game the silver lining would be.  Granted I certainly enjoyed the wonderful art work and the excellent music.

Episode two destroyed that concern.  I felt like I was back  in the world of King's Quest.  The story has developed into a great Mystery, the puzzles felt like those of any other King's quest game, and the humor pushed the whole project into nostalgia.

I want to thank Phoenix online with my first post and let you know I will continuing to play each episode and will be buying Corridor Nine someday.  Great work!

Thanks.  8)

You are very much welcome.

Stay tuned for more adventures in EP3. As of this post I spent a lot of the morning working on things for you guys again. So things are looking good so far.

I'd just kind of like to go "SECOND!" to this entire thread. :3 TSL has surpassed any expectations I've had... and it's only chapter 2. Is it weird to say that this game and story being made and continued is one of the most positive signs I've seen in a long time? Goodness still exists. Love for stories and characters and art still exists.

... Awesome. <3

I agree with this. If it wasn't for KQ, I wouldn't be as involved with half the games I play. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for this. The opening scene almost brought tears to my eyes in chapter 1. It was so good to see those familiar faces again and I instantly transported myself back to my childhood. It was intresting while going along remembering the good times and the bad frustrating times, but all in all, this made me happy. It's a rare gem and I promise, just seeing the old clan of Daventry again, was plenty for me. I'd like to thank everyone involved with this project and more. Please keep up the amazing work, this game is ever so close to my heart.

I hope everyone associated with this project is not only proud, but understands that it truly made me remember why I enjoyed video games so much. Thank You, thank you for a dream I never thought I would ever get to experience again. You made an adult young again and that is the best thing you could give anyone.

Thank you Phoenix and the TSL Group for bringing a lot of memories back.  I was 12 when KQ2 came out and played it right away with every other saga until KQ8 which I do not recall finishing.  These were very good years.  Now thanks to you I can rejoice playing this great game with my 7 year old daughter who also loves the game.  I had explained her all the KQ story so she can have a background and she did played the previous games with me, especially the newer re-made versions. Now we are waiting for Ep. 3 to come out soon.  Congratulations to everyone in the team, I think you have made a very good job, from scripting to music, gameplay, etc. Seems like an original Sierra game.

Keep up the good work!

I'm go out on a limb and say that is currently the youngest King's Quest fan in history. I'm very happy to see younger and younger people get into the KQ games. It's so refreshing to see younger fans. And of course, we're eager to release episode 3. I can tell you that a lot of hard work has gone into the making of it. You won't be disappointed, I promise.

Psst--he said he was 12 when KQ2 came out.  That was in 1985. ;)

Yeah, I was referring to the 7 year old daughter, not him.

Yes, I forgot to tell that my brother was 9 and he also played KQ2 with me.  We played every Sierra game until KQ8.  I remember Manhunter, it was a very creepy game but great!  Returning to Phoenix, this team is having a blast doing this!  I wish I know Maya, Torque, and every other software and programming (and have the time!) to be part of this effort.  I only can say Thanks again!

I don't know any of those programs myself; I'm just a PR dude for now, with some minor beta-testing on the side. Oh, and I've written two articles so far for the Four Winds, the in-game newspaper of TSL. I couldn't program a game to save my life! There's a lot that goes into game development, more than just the programming and game engines. There's plot (which is one of the most important things), music, art (another very important aspect), PR (if no one knows about the game, no one will buy it! PR doesn't actually start until down the line, but it's still a very important part of the process) and so much more. None of these aspects take precedence over another (at least not in my mind); they all work together on an equal playing field. In order to have a good game, you must have a balance between all of this and more. It's tricky, but once you get it right, you have a winner. A lot of big name companies try to rush games to release, and in some cases, even annualized franchises. Rushing a game to release is a horrible idea. I'd rather see a game get delayed five times than have it come out early, littered with bugs and imperfections. I think a good example of a game rushed to release is Fable 3. The announcement of the game alone was a mistake in the way it was done. There were literally two pieces of concept art, a bullet point list of things Peter Molyneux hoped would be in the game, and a CG trailer, which none of the footage from appeared anywhere in the game.

I'm getting carried away again...

I hope you can get a solution. The game really is great, and Episode 3 improves on Episode 2 in so many ways.
