totally just beat King Quest 6. Its 1:00 ... 1:05 in the morning... i started playing like 5 hours ago...
I beat it. har har!! I SEEN HOLE IN THE WALL!!
*tears in the eyes litterly*
im happy.. lol i really wish i could play KQ7 though.
Which brings me to my next question, i played KQ7 years ago but never beat it.
So in KQ6 Prince Alex is getting married in the end. Does TSL take place before this happens? or does something happen in KQ7 i forget...
:)
-- screenies of hole in the wall soon-ish ( from KQ6 )
TSL takes place straight after KQ8 (Mask of Eternity if you prefer to call it). I'm happy you got to play it! KQ6 is my favorite of the lot. I'm currently going through KQ7. I'm a little annoyed at the art and how Disney it feels, but I guess that was the market of the time >.>
Hole in the wall is the BEST though, right? I love riding the nightmare too. BEST THING EVAH. And I'm a Alexander x Cassima fangirl too :sweetheart:
Blah, thats another one i never beat is Mask of Eternity, i just recently tried playing that before i found TSL. I could not get it to work, Plus when i had played it there are so many bugs, it seemed impossible to beat. Guess ill have to try again. Im jealous your playing KQ7, i really need to find myself a copy of the game, I just enjoyed the sillyness of the game, and it brings me back to when i was 7 or so, i forget.
I enjoyed KQ6, Lots of thinking, lots of fun, i give that a top 10 games list if i had one lol.
Awww, KQ6 is by far my favorite in the series! I can play through it in one sitting too. :) I wish that Alex and Cassima had been included in 7, but sadly Roberta had other plans.
I don't even wanna goto sleep i wanna beat another one, ( coffee ) heh.. its early, good thing its the weekend!
:suffer:

starting KQ 5 wish me luck ;)
I've always kind of found KQ6 just a tad overrated.
My favorite KQ game, personally, is KQV. Simple, light, fun.

Why did you find that? I must admit that it was a romantic storyline more than it was adventurous. Was that what you didn't like?
Yea Kings Quest 6 was definitely the pinnacle for me as far as Kings Quest games. I could go on and on about all the things I love in that game. I'm so happy they decided to set TSL in the Green Isles. It's like hoping in a time machine and traveling back to my childhood.
I never actually did play through Kings Quest 8. Anybody have any thoughts on it? I doubt I'd be able to get it running on my laptop now, but maybe somebody has posted a Lets Play on youtube...
I'm told that the version of KQVIII from gog.com works very well on modern computers.
WOW. Ultima, that was the first time you played KQ6?! I still can't believe that game is almost 19 years old. I mean, that is definitely OLD SCHOOL. I can't imagine how you must feel playing this for the first time. I was literally in grade school. Congrats
First off, if you want to attempt to play KQ7 and MOE on modern windows, I'd suggest getting the copies sold on GOG.com.
MOE, is actually pretty good (actually one of my favorite in the series), once you get past the inititial shock of all the new-fangled additions to the series it makes. The story is pretty compelling, probably the deepest in the series (however unfortunately the ending is anti-climactic).
It's got nice varied world, full of exploration (more-so than any previous game in the series). Lots of characters inspired by fairy tale/legend/myth. It actually went for a more Tolkienesque adventure, inspiration from classic literature like Dante's Inferno/Pilgrim's Progress/Bible/Paradise Lost. Many of the fairy tale/fantasy characters and areas seems to actually be inspired by material/themes seen in previous games to some degree. For example it has a Unicorn (see KQ4), Queen Freesa (see Queen Icebella), Crystal Dragon (see KQ7), an dimension of Death (see KQ6), a witch (see assorted King's Quests), but done in 3-D. It has all the inventory-based puzzles like the previous games, but also adds physics puzzles, and combat (some of the boss combat is tied into the puzzles). It has the single-cursor like in KQ7.
However, the game is extremely buggy on modern machines (it was buggy to begin with, but on new machines its much worse). So you need to do all sorts of weird things, like switching view modes, resolutions, or turning off special effects, walking backwards into certain cutscenes, etc, to avoid areas that lock up. This isn't a huge problem as you can save anywhere, but it does mean having to go through long load times. I recommend going to the King's Quest Omnipedia for explanations on how to get past the common bugged areas. They are bugs that I've encountered on multiple machines, so most likely will be bugs you will encounter yourself if you choose to play it.

I am only 20 years ( 21 on the 29th ) old. I had not got involved in any KQ's untill recently with my bored-um, stumbled on fun things. Glad i did, keeping myself entertained with different story's.
As for KQ8 ill give it another go sometime after i finish up on these other King quests :) and i agree the game was buggy, you had to do yo-ga to get through some parts of the game, but after you did you think, I enjoyed the story though, ( at the time i did not know it was linked to a whole past of KQ i thought it was just MOE ) like i said i never beat it, but i enjoyed the story line where it was going, the different puzzles, though as people say it is a dark and errey type of game compared to the other KQ's
"wow, did i really just do that? that was like clicking a mouse button!"
;)
Which ending did you get in KQ6?

Yup. I think that's the happiest ending. There are a few other versions though. it's interesting to see how fates change if you go about the quest differently.
Oh so if i play it differently some people might not be there?
makes since the main goal is to get to the castle to get to her.

Sweet link :) Yeah, it confirms that it's the best ending. It's a tad spoilerish if you want to find it all out yourself though ;)
So is the crossdressing version a good ending or a bad one? I forget... I think it's the good version cause Graham mentions the changing room in TSL... I'm sure of it...

Yup that settles it, more then one way to play a great game, awesome that makes it that much better, because normally a game has 1 beginning 1 end, this one on the other hand... different. I like!
No, that's the bad ending. In the good ending Alex uses the girl's clothes to
douse flames
on the Isle of Mists.

thats what i did :)
cross dressing is "short path" or the one with the least amount of points.

Ah- wasn't sure :) It was pretty funny to see Alexander get dressed up in women's clothing though XD Actually- I'm tempted to do a gag comic on it. I just got an idea for one XD
"Yes--*cough*cough*high pitched voice* Yes, sir."

You are SO right, carebear.
That's "ensemble".
This thread is making me want to play KQ 6 again! I could write a novel on how much I love that game.
I LOVE KQ6! It's my favorite game in the whole series so far! MoE isn't bad, but in terms of it's faithfulness to the overall KQ plot, it's not that good. It's better as a standalone game than anything else, in my opinion.
