According to this post (http://www.mmgames.org/KQ4/?p=33) dated October 4, 2010, the project by Magic Mirror Games to remake King's Quest IV is alive and making progress.
Yup. I just hope they keep going. Even if there's not a lot of progress, they at least need to throw something up there once a month to let people know they're alive.

Well, I would certainly hope it's alive and well. It's the last game in the King's Quest series that truly needs a VGA remake. I'm hoping they can release some more info soon. I'm quite excited about the remake, honestly. Now if only Infamous Adventures will release Space Quest II VGA...
I don't know if it NEEDS a VGA remake. ;) Actually what I'd really like to see is the game remade and redesigned slightly with some better puzzles. Not a total overhaul, but just some reworks of the most blatantly badly designed areas (i.e. bridle and whale tongue, to name a few).
Well "needs" is a pretty relative term when it comes to remaking games, yes. :)
I suppose that's what I think would be neat to see for any of the KQ games--things more along the lines of KQ2+, with some additions made. KQ4 would be great for seeing a little more of Edgar, for example.
Either way, I hope they do complete it and we can all play it!

Yeah. I mean, I really hope they can follow through. It feels good to complete and release a game.
As for our SQ2, I promise we're working hard-core on it. We're bug-testing and polishing it as we speak. The release is imminent. It'll be worth it, though. I'm still having fun playing through it, and I've played that game hundreds of times now.

Yeah. One of the new sprite artists over there is the TSL VGA remake guy. I think now he is focusing more on KQ4 than the TSL Remake though. I sent him that way before he got banned over here because they need help and his sprite work in the demo looked quite good and was done pretty fast.
They are certainly doing better now than they were before this.

ROFL.
I still want to play this game, but that does make me a little less interested, not gonna lie. I guess at least he's putting his skills to better use.
LOL I have to agree with Katie here - I'm actually a bit less likely to play it now knowing that.
That aside, it does seem to be true that the most complex part of game development is the last 20% or so, finishing everything off, patching bugs, making everything look nice and shiny, etc.
Wasn't there a thread about this a while back? I can't find it, so maybe I'm just confused. (Then again, it could just be the sucky forum search. :P)
KQ4 would be a good remake. I rarely hear news on it though. So is SQ2 remake going to be exactly the same as the original with new graphics, or is is going to be like KQ2+?

Space Quest II isn't a "plus" remake. We've made no changes to the plot or story. We have made a few graphical "enhancements" to Vohaul's Asteroid Fortress, to make it visually more appealing than just some tubes - but the game play is the same.
Bt
Still cool with me.
I'll play the remake regardless, but it is a bit... unsettling to know the TSL VGA guy is involved. I am interested in playing his TSL version, for hilarity's sake... I wish I could beta-test infamous adventures games... I mean, i'm like really excited about the SQ2 remake right now.

Well, they were looking for testers a while back. I would have applied, but I don't even have enough time for proper TSL testing. :(
Supposedly Magic Mirror was planning a "plus" version of KQIV. I don't know if it will happen, though. I'll be happy if they just finish the non-plus version. :D

I'd say that depends on how you define a "plus" remake. We have quite a bit of new content in SQ2VGA, but no, we haven't really added any new plot/story elements to it. Some areas are redesigned to the degree that I'd call it a little more than purely graphical, though. A few puzzle additions/changes, some new dialog, some additional suprises...etc.
So no "Father" or Black Cloak Society, none of that? Bummer ;)

Well, we toyed with the idea of adding "The Uncle" but the character just came off as.... creepy and molesterish, so we nixed it.
Lambo is right, though - there's definitely a few new surprises, and lots of fun stuff, but the game play is essentially the same as it's 1987 AGI counterpart.
Lets just say that if you want to have the most fun, make sure to taste and smell everything!

Ah the glories of the smell and taste icons. Never actually helpful in any way (at least not that I remember off the top of my head) but always good for extremely entertaining responses and even a few creative ways to die.

Hey, Space Quest 6 had some uses for it if I remember... Granted, it's been a while. But hey, it's more icons to use, and more messages to get. I ain't complaining.
The SQ2 remake is definitely not a plus version, but it is enhanced. It is awesome. As a tester, I have been amazed by the work put in and how awesome it is. It is as close to a 1:1 remake as possible with the change of interface, and as has been mentioned there are a few awesome additions. Even though I can play it (and have many times already) I can't wait for its release.
Stop teasing us everyone! I wanna play the game! But let's not forget that this thread is about the KQIV remake, not the SQ2 one. If you want to talk about the SQ2 remake, you are more than welcome to make a thread to do so. Just try to remain on topic.
Lol..no problem. Last post on the topic--just to let you all know that IA is effectively on hiatus for the holidays, but we will likely be picking up steam again after the new year. We don't have a release date yet, but it will be some time after the release of TSL episode 3. ;)
