Title: AGDI Quest games now mac native!
Post by: dark-daventry on January 20, 2011, 03:13:49 PM
I just checked the website for AGDI and all three of their quest remakes are now mac compatible! I'm currently downloading KQI, and I'll report back once I'm done with that.

indeed. (although technically I am pretty sure it's just winewrapped)

I am planning on porting them to linux as well.

oh- cool for you guys :) KQ2 was my favourite out of the lot cause it actually improved the original game due to a bigger map and expanded plot line. I liked their King's Quest 1 also. It's really nice to have voices to the characters. Alexander's voice actor in KQ3 has this really sneaky chuckle when he kicks the cat ^^ I'm glad you guys will start to see all of that now :) ((Wish the teleport at random stone didn't crash the game though :(

Actually, I've played through both remakes completely. I just got a mac about two weeks ago. I've had windows before then, and I still have my power house windows desktop, so I now (legally) own both operating systems! I just need some good games to play on my mac!

Oh, and btw, the KQ3 remake wasn't done by AGDI. It was done by Infamous-Adventures. I'm also not sure if there's a mac version of that game available anywhere to download. I would download a windows version and fiddle with it in wine, but my school's internet connection is really bad. Although I do need some help in wine... I'm not used to using an emulator of that kind. What kinds of programs can Wine run? And is the version of wine I want for my computer the WineBottler version, or is there another?

if you are good at following guides, you should be able to find just about everything my first post.

I mainly use linux, but I have played all the games and remakes.  I have windows XP MCE because I am not quite a strong enough individual to ONLY use linux, but I sure as hell didn't buy it.

I play all my KQ games in Wine on linux, except moe, because that doesn't really work in wine (haven't tested the gog version, I bet that works)

I have Wine installed via Wine Bottler. Is that the correct version of wine?

Who did the voice of Alex in IA's KQ3? I feel like he did a voice in our game too, but I might be wrong.

it might work, but no.  that isn't real wine, it's a winewrapping tool based on wine.  read my guide for installing tsl on osx through wine and that method is how to install the right version of wine.

Anyone try playing the new Mac version of QFG2VGA with the standard single-button mouse?  Control-clicking and Command-clicking seem to do nothing, so the game isn't playable beyond the stat screen (since you can't allocate points by using the keyboard arrow keys apparently.)  I hope I'm stupidly overlooking something and it's just my mistake.  If anyone has gotten it to work, please tell me how!  :)

Here is the KQ3 remake credits (http://www.infamous-adventures.com/kq3/index.php?page=credits)

Alexander in that game is voice acted by Cris Skelton.

Not sure who voices him in TSL- I'll find out tonight when I play it (again XD )

Michael Fortunato, a team member who also does a great deal of audio and art work for the project.

Ahh. No, I don't think Cris did a voice for us, but he was on the project at some point, I remember the name. I think he was an artist?

For some reason I thought Alex was voiced by Jon Stoll, who does Edgar in our game. (And is a very good artist, as well.)

Hahaha I noticed that too.  Sorry - I don't have a Mac or I'd give this a try and see if I could figure anything out.  You'd think there'd be a way around it as I have to assume it'd be the first thing they'd see when testing it out.

Quote from: wiki.winehq.orgHow do I right-click in Wine on Mac OS X?
Control-click, as you're probably used to, won't work in wine (so far?). Workaround: Enable secondary click by tapping the trackpad with two fingers. Therefor go to System Preferences > Keyboard & Mouse > Trackpad and enable 'Tap trackpad using two fingers for secondary click'. You can then do the right clicks by tapping the trackpad with two fingers.
Update: if you are running a current version of Xquartz, you can go into the X11.app preferences when its running and select what you want to be modifier keys for right and middle clicks.
remember: it's not really a mac port, it's just using wine. :)

Haha...thanks.  I'm gonna try messing around with my "mighty mouse" settings and see if I have the other button positions enabled correctly.  As far as I know, I have had the standard left-click and right-click enabled (even though it's just one solid surface.)

You can right-click on a Mac?

I know.  I died of shock when I found that out.  In fact, you can use most normal windows mice and the right click buttons work fine.
I would try the x11.app preferances thing for making a  fake right click.

BTW, lamb, you run TSL on a mac with  wine right?  does right click work in that?  It shouldn't unless you did something like this....

Hey guys, let's get back on topic, shall we? I shouldn't have mentioned wine, but let's get back to discussion of AGDI's quest games for the mac, shall we?

Dark "let's get back on topic shall we" Daventry, to the rescue! Seriously, how many times have I seen you use those exact words in the past week? :P

Besides, this is on topic. The topic is AGDI's games on the Mac and how to get them to function properly, of which Wine is an integral subject of the matter.

Thats true, because I am pretty sure all the "port" is is just a pre made winebottled/winewrapped executable.

This discussion came from lamb's perfectly on topic question.

it's probably his newly aquired mod powers. :P

Well, I'm trying to be vigilant. But, i digress. I realize now wine is important to this conversation, so I'll let it continue.

And atec, I don't have mod powers anymore. Those got taken away a while ago. Instead, I now have global mod powers, which gives me even more control of the forums to keep things in line.

My internet connection at school is bad, so I wasn't able to finish the download last night, but I'm going to download all the remakes today and see if they work for me or not.

I'm having an issue installing macports. Here's the error message I got:

Xcode is not installed, or was installed with UNIX Development (10.5+) or Command Line Support (10.4) deselected.

I don't know what any of that means... Any suggestions, Atec?

Just an update--turns out I did not in fact have the right click functionality enabled for my mouse.  :)  Doing that solved the problem.  However, according to AGD2, the arrow keys were supposed to work for allocating points as well, so they're probably going to release a tweaked build once a few more people test out the Mac version (which apparently didn't get tested as extensively as the Windows build.)  Mainly what they need feedback on is whether or not the combat keys work correctly, given the abridged nature of the standard Mac wireless keyboard.  Apparently you should be able to reassign combat keys at will (can't remember if this was a feature of the original release,) but I haven't gotten around to trying it yet.  :)
