Title: TSL and release dates.
Post by: Bludshot on January 23, 2011, 04:35:49 PM
To start off, let me just say that I have no complaints with delays, everyone here wants the most polished product and TSL has critically impressed me.

That being said I'd like to respectfully point out Phoniex's horrid track record with release dates. :P

I've followed the project for four years now and in that time I have heard so many projections for the games release that in retrospect are incredibly amusing. I'd like to make a suggestion that TSL avoid release dates from here on.  Or just announced a week in advance.

We really thought we were going to makes this one, but we hit a few hiccups. Life happens, we can't help it. Try and picture this: You are working and/or going to school full time. You wake up at 6:00am and work on TSL until you have to leave. You come home at 4:00pm and start to do homework. 7:00pm rolls around and you are still working on homework but you have started doing TSL work again. You work on this until midnight or after only to start the process all over again. If we were working on this and we all were getting paid, we'd be doing 40 hours plus on this instead of 10-20. I will say this there are times when I fall asleep at my desk because I am working on this for so long.

We have taken all the feedback you have given us and made the best product we can, it won't be too long after the 29th, many assignments are wrapping up and going in into the game. Imagine how upset you would be if we released on the 29th and it was filled with bugs. Not good.

Eh, like I said: we've waited this long, what's another couple weeks? :P

Those weeks will fly by too.  ;)

True!  We've got Episodes 1 and 2 to play around with too.  I'd like to do a thorough replay-through of each before the big day, anyway. :)

I think you misinterpreted what I said.  I don't mind delays, especially on a volunteer project of this scale.  I'm simply suggesting refraining from release dates.  If you wanted to muster interest, you could just hold on to the final product and release it a week later and let people's excitement stew.

I don't think Waltzdancing misunderstood. What she said still stands. We honestly thought we were going to make the 29th. We had a lot of help, we were engergized and ready to go. But then life hit. It hit me pretty hard. I had to go back to school and start my homework again, in addition to my other two jobs (I consider Phoenix a job even though I don't get paid for it). We were so sure we were gonna nail this release date.

Ok, so I capitalized the W... Big whoop. I still spelled the name right... Didn't I? *starts to get paranoid and balls up in a corner rocking back and forth* I don't make spelling mistakes... I don't make spelling mistakes... I don't...

*pats D-D's back*

It's okay, I've capitalized the w too and it's my name.  ;D That's why Haids is around to keep me on my toes.

But names should be capitalised and you people are making my head hurt and I'm going to cry and DD, whom I had thought so highly of, is disappoint.

XD I'm just kidding, Deloria. My English is actually pretty good. I don't rank in the 99.9th percentile for English for nothing.

I just don't understand why you guys do this to yourselves.  The project started years ago, the fanbase is clearly patient.  With all the glitches and crashes I'm having a hard time getting fully invested in Episode 3.  You poor folks rush yourselves to make these self-imposed deadlines, I'm confused as to what there is so much urgency.

Because they, like us, although patient, are addicted. They take in as much KQ as they can.

Ok I for one did not know until now this was a fan made project. The art and polish, not to mention the scope, of this game is so grand I thought this was just the first project of a new game company grabbing the attention of adventure game junkies like myself. I have to say I understand release date issues. Hell most of your major studios cannot keep to their first or even second announced release date and companies like Blizzard have given up on them altogether. So let me say hats off to everyone at Phoenix for doing one kickass job for all of us players. Now that being said I finished part 3, wow talk about being totally blindsided by the revelations, I cannot wait for the next installment. I promise not to hold you to even the vaguest of estimates about part 4 but do you have a season in mind? Spring (crossing fingers for this one!), Summer, Fall or next Winter?

Actually, it is, though it didn't start out that way. ;D (And that's not really its purpose.)

If you have such a problem with release dates, just ask for your money back.

Oh.  Yeah.

They've stated before that they're aiming for 3-4 months between episodes, so we're looking at summer-ish for episode 4.
Also bear in mind that they're creating Episode 5 almost completely from scratch, so it's possible that it will take longer than 3-4 months to finish up all of the spit and polish (at least that's what I'm preparing myself for, lol).

I thought the official statement was 1-3 months. Has that been changed?

No, not officially. We're still aiming for "1-3 months," but I would expect it to be closer to 3 than not.
