Title: 2 Things
Post by: DancingMagicDance on April 09, 2004, 09:35:24 PM
Ok two things. One, I wish in the King's Quests tere was more of a progression of story. Say like StarWars or Lord ofthe Rings, were the stories are really connected in a series. I mean, I really love KQ, bu when you look at them, they seem like a collection of adventures rater tan a saga. Like Baldur's Gate, the saga of it progresses and continues.
Will KQ9 be like that, like an unfolding saga rather than a collection of stories? Also wll there be emotional issues dealt with in it? Or perhaps like a love story part of it with Alexander and Casimma?

King's Quest IX turns the collection of adventures into a saga

'nuff said ;)

It was a saga to begin with... or so would tell you anyone who worked on KQ's PR :P

The games all had mostly-unrelated plotlines, but they were made that way because their makers wanted people who haven't played all previous games to enjoy (and buy) the game.

It's one thing when you have to read or watch the 2 other parts of a trilogy, and another when you have to play through a game that might not appeal to you just so you'll understand the going-ons of the game you really intend to play ;)

This brings me to a question I've been wondering.  I'm sure everyone, or at least someone, working on the team has played the KQ2 VGA remake, so I was wondering (mainly for purposes of my site)...
Is the story of KQ9 going to pretty much go by the original KQ2, or will there not be enough detail to tell which version actually occured?  Is it just going to be "Graham saved Valanice from a tower", or "Graham went through a land of disconnected random fairy tales to save Valanice from a tower"?  Am I making sense?

Yeah, I think the fact that I don't think I made sense means it's bed time for Questing!

I think I've answered this before, Cesar and many others played and finished KQ2 VGA, and we did try to combine stories and sort of (for a first time) cooperate between fan games and such, sadly, it couldnt happen, but at least we tried.

So I guess you can already know what the answer is Q :P

Hmm...I think you're asking the same question twice there. Graham went through a journey in a land that was filled with disjointed fairy tales in both the original and the remake versions of KQ2. Tierra/AGDI's KQ2+ had a more developed plotline and the Father, they're own creation.

Before I came on the team, from what I understand, there were inquiries put to Tierra/ADGI about sharing a timeline/plotline, but they wanted to keep the Father plotline to themselves as it was their creation. Which I can understand don't blame them for at all! :) So only the original storyline of KQ2 exists in KQ9 - Graham went to Kolyma and resuced Valanice from the tower she'd been imprisoned in by Hagatha.

Now that I'm conscious, we'll see if I can get this to make a bit more sense.  You sort of answered my question, but not quite.  I knew that AGDI was keeping their Father plot to themselves, which I think is smart and all.  I was just wondering if any KQ2 references you make in KQ9 were going to be specific enough that you'd be able to tell whether or not it was Sierra or AGDI's game that actually "happened".  For example, you won't have Graham refer to the time when he staked Dracula, right?

Ahhh, I see. No, KQ9 only has what happened in the original KQ2 in it's timeline/history. So in ours, Graham would have staked Dracula, and the doors opened with keys, not gemstones, and so forth.

Welll, that means the mermaid has that nice little boquet that probably died real quick after being dunked in sea water.  I suppose it might be for the best....
What?  I'm trying to be optomistic!

Also in KQIX, Cedric would not have been killed during the Madness of King Graham. ;)
