Erk. Another dreary semester. ::) Actually, I am glad. The summer gets so boring without anything to do. I've got two or three more years to go before graduating. I started back in 2004. Sometimes I wonder if Computer Science was what I should have went with. However, my physics teacher is so beautiful. It makes me wish I was 10 years older and randomly met her outside of College. Haha. Sometimes I would miss what she had said because I got lost in her eyes. Ugh, I can see this semester being difficult...and juggling it with work. :suffer:

So anyway, anyone else have a different take on being back in college/school?

Long ago I graduated.... Well actually that was 2 years and a few months ago.
What an easy live I had when I was still a studend. Hardly anything to do for college/school. Now I have to work hard and in a stressfull environment.
Well maybe work is better since I can do things so I don't get bored.

Darn you graduates. I HATE YOU!! Lol. J/k. Yeah, college is easy mode compared to life in most cases. :'( I still wish I was done though. I hate having to do all these random projects that don't seem to have much to do with my goals. I need to get some work related to my goals under my belt; so people see some examples of my work rather than just a bachelor's degree in computer science. Because I have this guy in my class, he's a slacker. Turns things in late...doesn't turn anything in at all. But he's managed to pass every class. ??? A degree counts less compared to experience. That's my opinion.

hercrabbiness

College doesn't start for me until the end of September. We're on the quarter system, so we start really late (and end really late). I'm not quite ready for it to begin since I'm not even done with summer school, but I get a nice little break before it starts, so that's okay. :)

College, easy? :o WHAT NONSENSE DO YOU SPEAK!? The classes I have to take for my major are horrendously difficult, and I'm always aiming for A's.. it makes my college life very stressful. But at the same time, it is pretty fun. I hope this year is as good (if not better) than last year was! :D

racx_00

I tend to be a distraction in class and get along well with the lecturers. I also slack and leave everything to the last minute, i still manage to pass though...

Actually, I think college/university was far more difficult than any job I've previous had.

Like Koko, I graduated in April of this year, and it feels great not to have to go back to school.  Those back-to-school ads alone give me the creeps. :P  But just to give you a heads up since you're studying essentially the same field as me: testing does not end with your last exam.

I had one job interview where I had to write a programming test before even being called for the interview, then I had to actually solve written questions at the actual interview! :o  They seemed to enjoy asking questions about linear algebra & C++ (two things I hadn't done in 4 years), so needless to say, I didn't do very well. :P

I actually have another interview tomorrow where I have to write another "standardized" programming test, although this time it'll be with PHP & Java.  Those two languages I've had far more experience with, but still I spent all day today studying old textbooks, notes and Googling.  Hopefully, it'll all be worth it. :)

Not looking forward to that. :P

But I'm only a sophmore, so that's a ways off. I'm really looking forward to this semster if only for my CSC II class. There's only 6 people including me, and the professor is awesome, so it'll probably be a really fun class.

My others though... going to be tough. Two math classes and *choke* a lit course.

I'm planning to finally declare my major as CSC next week.  :D :D

That's comforting since I'm planning on going into the same field... :P

And I'm a sophomore too, but in high school. Am I allowed to be in this thread? XD

CSC?

Anyway, the dew7 real name is Dan which is short for Daniel.  I work as an assistant teacher in New Mexico.  I help out with computers as a secondary job responsibility at the elementary school and went from school tech. to systems administrator and then my work identity was stolen and used fraudulently by someone else.  It really is terrible because it happened in 2005 in Arizona that the home that I was renting was burglarized and my social security card was stolen.  I know now that my identity is safe in God's hands.

Anyway, I will be going back to college in late September and taking a 3 credit graduate course and it is an Intel Technology course that looks really cool.  Apparently it is a secret and restricted course to only a small group of teachers and educational assistants (me) and it was offered to me of all people.  I am so excited to be a graduate student.  After, Sept. 11, I realized I had to go back to school to relax and refocus and this will help me also since I am on leave until at least Sept. 21 pending the investigation that was fraudulently used against me of computer sabotage by the assistant principal of the elementary school that I work at.  Anyway, all is well since I trust in something greater than myself and my thoughts and prayers go out to you all who have blessed and cared for me so greatly.

Sounds rough. :-X  If a potential employer asks me to recap on anything related to Calculus, I will commit suicide. I hate Calculus. XB I hope your interview went well!

I was referring more to the shift in responsibilities, politics, and repercussions between taking classes for your own benefit and working in a company (or what not) for someone else's benefit. Of course, my opinion means jack squat because I don't know what life is like after college. =x I can only assume, hehehehe.

By all means, college is not easy in absolute terms, but I am sure it is easy in relative terms to something out there. :S

Don't kill yourself with courses! Sounds pretty rough. I only take minimal full time credit hours. :-[ I admire people that can handle a crap load of classes, work, and get A's at the same time. Although, I would never want to be in their shoes. :sweating:

Good luck, Daniel. I hope everything works out well for you. Sounds pretty intense. A secret class, huh? Is THAT why my computer courses are taught in the back storage room with the servers. The secret classes get the good rooms. >:(

I am choking on the two math classes. I would take a lit course over a math class any day! Hahaha. I am taking Philosophy and Literary Heritage. Socrates seems to be an intelligent man. :) I love the aspect of allegories. I will probably end up writing some for myself for my own amusement. :suffer:

Ahahahaha! Sounds like me last year and the 2 years before it. My distraction would be snoring though, and I wouldn't get along with lecturers. So I guess it's a big difference. :-X Well, I did pass the courses though! :suffer:

Ugh, I hated Calculus too.  High school Calculus wasn't bad, but Calculus in university really sucked, especially Calculus II. :X

As for the interview, it went ok.  It was 4 questions and all PHP.  I think it went well, but I'll find out next week if I got the job or not.

I'm taking Calc II right now. The hard part so far has been trying to remember everything I've forgotten from Calc I, which is pretty much everything. :P

Tage7

I'm taking Cal II next spring or next fall. In my case, I didn't forget ANYTHING. ;D

Mostly because I didn't learn anything in Cal I... :'(

I'm done for.

Yonkey

Well, maybe you guys will get lucky and get a good professor.  All I remember from ours was him writing tons and tons of stuff, and my head spinning by the end of the lecture. :P  The TA from that class was pretty good though.  His accent & quirky movements made those tutorials worth sitting through. XD

Next year I'm planning to take Calc I and II, though it's probably a better idea to wait until I see how I do in pre-calc before making any plans. XD

Though, if all else fails, I know lots of other math nerds that I could get help from. XD

For the folks who want to study the same thing as Neil did, kuddos to you! That is somehow well paid in the industry (well video gaming industry anyhow)

I sooo don't miss College... I had a rough time going through it as I had to balance work to afford private education and going for a 5 year career just made me feel like it took me forever to get there. Finally I did and personally I'm glad I survived and graduated with honors.

Just keep in mind that having a degree (at least in the states) is halfway there to where you want to be. I've come to realize that professional experience sometimes is as valuable as education, for goor or bad. To have a great job I had to start from the bottom, professionally you need to slowly achieve in order to move on to that spot you want to. Well, at least it was in my field. My word of advice is never be afraid of too much work, never be afraid to go for things. Never stop learning. Sadly, it sucks now but you will be rather thankful later :D

Good Advice, Say.  I started as a cart attendant pushing carts and cleaning the bathrooms after college for Target Corporation.  I worked my way up for a while and then decided retail was not for me and now am glad to be working in education.  It is great, tiring, and joyful to be an assistant teacher but having all the holidays such as summers off or free to work elsewhere is great and is very helpful for me to recharge.  I could not see myself doing anything else besides working with children or computers which are my two great passions after my faith in God and family and friends of course.
