The rules are pretty straightforward though we'll modify them for our online format. Basically, we have a "village" or "town" of people (us) and one of those people (us) is a murderer :o (gasp, boo!). So, during the "day," this being a very democratic society, the townsfolk vote on whom to  kill off in hopes of getting the murderer, while each "night" that they are unsuccessful, the murderer thins them out by killing one of their number.

The entire process is mediated by the narrator, who cannot be killed and cannot vote. So to do this on the forum, I think we'll need some way of signing up as wanting to participate (ie- respond to this thread with your intention to play :pleased:), and then we'll vote openly on which players to kill off during our "day" period and then the murderer will PM the narrator with the name of the player he's killed off for the night period.

The narrator will PM the murderer to let him know that he is the murderer after the list of players is fleshed out. (Bear in mind that the murderer is a participating member of the democratic process of picking whom to kill off each "day" since otherwise the murderer is just a townsperson.)

All right... so who wants to play? (I'll build a list at the bottom of my posts... so for now the player's list just reads as below)

Yeah, there are several versions of Mafia... but I figured that we'd keep it basic for now.

OMG! XD We have 6 players now. I'll let the membership stay open until... say... this Saturday (tomorrow) at 12:00 M EST. After which I will PM everyone that play has begun and we're in the first "day phase."

All right. The town gates are now closed. The townspeople have a difficult task ahead of them because there is a murderer in their midst! So, they will meet today to vote on whom they suspect (and whom they'll be doing away with in hopes of ending the murders).

Yonkey

Do we vote for the suspect here?  If so, I can convert the thread to a poll with the list of townspeople. 8)
"A wish changes nothing. A decision changes everything."

Delling

Yes, we vote for the suspect, but really only the living townspeople (including the murderer) should be allowed to vote... and we'll have to do this repeatedly (for each day phase until the murderer is killed or wins). It has been awhile since I made a poll...so I'm not sure how possible all of that is... ???

That's actually a little too difficult to do, because this thread is in Haven versus a separate board.  I guess the voting would have to be by PM then.

We can do it in the thread since we have a list of the participants. It should be an open communication between the players so they can discuss, cast doubt, shift blame, that sort of thing (it's all part of the fun of mafia :P).

(In theory, while other people can pop their heads in and comment, their votes won't count unless they are on the list. ;) )

EDIT: Well, since Yonkey's not on at the moment and in the spirit of moving this along, I'll quote his subsequent PM to me.

Hmm... I'll choose Mango as my suspect. :P

So that's one vote to off Mango as the murderer.

It can't be Mango. :P She's too sane and sweeet, she couldn't possibly commit such a heinous and atrocious deed. :P I'm actually somewhat inclined to think it Yonkey, merely because he blamed Mango and her bunny.

So far I read this as two votes against Mango and one against Yonkey.

You should all probably vote... seeing as you're offing a member of the town.... just saying ::) :P
