Ok, ok...I see I scared everyone off of this thread with my singing...don't worry, I'm not taking offense!  I know it sounded...well, not horrible, but not great either!

It was great, though! :D I'm just not posting here for a bit because there aren't any new sound clips at the moment. ;)

I know it's only feedback only...lol...you know how we are our own worst critic...well, that's me.  Being my own critic made me feel like I scared everyone off... ;D

I used to be the same, then I found my inner shallowness and narcissism hehe.  Evrything of mine since then has been A+ material in my eyes. You should try it, makes getting up in the morning alot better after being smacked down (in the confidence way i mean)!

Easier said than done, Alex. ;) I know my own self-esteem and self-confidence levels are hovering somewhere in the extreme negative region. :P Doesn't help that I'm a major perfectionist, either.

Still, you put your singing clip up on the forum for all to hear... something I would never ever do for fear of being banned, stoned and laughed at (not necessarily in that order). Way to go!!  :D

Hee. Well the way I see it is... I already bash my own stuff so much that other people's commentaries can't really do that much more damage. ;)

So you are your own worst critic then. ;)

The way I approach the situation is just thinking well I know that I/my work/whatever is good so as long as thats firmly set in my mind I really couldn't give a flying f*** what anyone else thinks! Obviously to totally ignore peoples criticisms of you/your work/whatever is stupid as usually no matter how exaggerated and out of order they may be there's usually some truth in them and if thats the case then you just have to dilute it with a huge pinch of salt...thats me anyway :D

Well, that's the prerogative of the truly talented  ;)
"Never argue with idiots. They'll drag you down to their level and beat you with experience."

Jeysie

Well, aside from the fact that I really am a horrible perfectionist who's never happy with my performances... :P ...I see it as a way of hedging my bets. If I claim I'm lousy, either people can agree, and I can say "See, I told you I sucked" and just mostly laugh it off and not look *too* bad, or people can say, "No, you're good" and be all happy, and I can be surprised. It's really much safer. ;)

Peace & Luv, Liz

Storm

You see, that's the difference between us. If someone tells you "No, you're good", you'd be happy about it. If someone tells me "No, you're good" I'd try to show him how wrong he is ;P

I meant, the people can be happy, and I can be surprised they think I'm good. ;) I still think I suck. Whether or not I'll bother to press the point depends on who it is. Harrison and I have gotten in some arguments where he'll say I'm good at something (singing, or something else), and I'll say I'm not, and he'll say why I'm good at it, and I'll say why I'm not good at it, and it usually gets kind of ugly. But at work for, uh, work sort of stuff, for instance, I just sort of smile and nod and go with it and just think to myself "Eh, whatever".

Jeysie

I want somebody to think I'm good because I really *am* good, not because they're trying to be nice, or because they don't know any better, or something. I <3 Harrison, but... he's just a little too gung-ho sometimes. He wants me to try all this stuff, and he's obviously not going to get me to try stuff if I end up being bad at it, so sometimes I think maybe he's just telling me I'm good to "encourage" me, not because I really am. :P

As for the viewer being "wrong"... well, for example, I can hear when a barbershop singer makes a major mistake, but I don't have a good enough ear to pick up some minor or even moderate mistakes. So while a singer's performance might be good to me, a judge, or even people with better musical ears, might pick up on a bunch of mistakes the person made, and it might not be so good to them. Which I guess ties into the "doesn't know any better" concept. :P

Yeah I understand what you're saying if YOU know it wasn't good but there's no point trying to convince someone! As you said, what they'd heard might of sounded good to them so why even bother thinking if theyre being false or not? Just get as many ego boosts as possible thats what I say.  :)

Of course there's a point trying to convince people! First of all, if they say you're good it means they are dead wrong and have to be educated and informed of their mistake. Secondly, that very ego boost is what we're trying to avoid here! you let people give you compliments like that and it won't be long before you start believing them, your ego would swell, you'll start having delusions and hopes that you're actually good and be less prepared and more heartbroken when they inevitably crash onto the cliffs of reality. :(

With all that said, after being told many times over I don't handle compliments very well, I'm trying very hard not to contradict every single person who pays me a compliment... mostly because I'm afraid they would give up and stop altogether  ::)

Hmmmm thats a bleak way to look at life, I guess the glass is alwyas half empty to you right? I don't know when I started taking compliments, I just know that at one point I thought "JUST SAY THANKS!!". Everyones different though. I suppose if in your own mind you don't think you're 100% it is hard to believe others when they say you are, i DO know how that feels hehe.
