I just finished The Gathering Storm (book 12 of The Wheel of Time), by Robert Jordan and Branden Sanderson.

All out of stuff to read now.  :(

How was it? I'm waiting for the rest to come out before I start reading the series again.

I'm about to finish Club Dead by Charlaine Harris (a re-read on my part, because Season 3 of True Blood should be starting soon!)

After that, I think I will read either Patrick or the Dragon King Saga (both of which are by Stephen Lawhead, a favorite author of mine!)

Oi, I liked the Si'arillion, if you get past the all creation part and get to the part where the elves leave the Valar it is actually nice to read.

I'm enjoying it so far, surprised it's taken me so long to get the book, me being such a Tolkien fan and all....

Oh it was good.  It was very very good.  Plot holes are finally starting to get resolved.  And allow me to say one thing... and one thing only:

White Tower under seige

Enough said.  :)

Yes, it was VERY good! I just finished it recently. Some of the previous books, although I really enjoyed them, seemed to be moving very slowly. This one goves a really strong sense that the end is coming. Also, there are a lot of surprises, and it leaves you wanting to know what happens next.

I never got into the Silmarillion. It seemed too much like reading a history book. :P

Stephen Lawhead is one of my favorite authors, as well. I haven't read his more recent works, though.

It is for a sizable portion of the book, but it does have a few narrative strides within it.

I haven't read any of the books since middle school, so I don't really remember the plot at all, just that they were good. I'll have to reread them all.

Part of the reason I now have a policy of only starting a series once all the books are out.

Cool to hear it was good though! Was a little worried as I'd never heard of Branden Sanderson before.

Oh, I highly recommend the Raven King trilogy. So far I only have Hood, the first one, but Lawhead is right back in his element, retelling old legends again. Honestly, Hood rivaled any book of the Pendragon Cycle, which were my favorites of his. Probably better than the Celtic Crusades (my second favorite), and the Song of Albion.
Definitely better than Byzantium, but I only say that because I absolutely despised his main character more than I have ever despised a fictional human being before in my life. :P

So'eti'es it is fun to get to know the history of a story, since 'any writers create worlds and have a lot of background infor'ation of that what they create and it doesn;t show in the books they write. Though it also depends how they present that 'background' infor'ation.

That's why I enjoy Wikis for fictional worlds so much -- all the info you could ever want, in an easy to read form where you can get at only the parts that interest you. :)

Of course, it's hard to find a good, relatively complete and easily navigated Wiki for a lot of these fictional universes.

If a book has a map or glossaries, or -which I never thought of before but works too- wikis, I'm all the more interested in reading it.

I like wiki's for beeing easy to read and get the infro'ation you want, but I rather have a book in 'y hands usually then reading fro' screen, just feels better.

True that, don't think I could ever use a kindle.

Gosh, me neither.  Kindles scare me, especially since I'm going to librarian school.  Besides, books are decorations.  The more, the better.

Completely agree! Erik and I love to read and we're planning on renting a larger apartment, just so that we can have a library. I buy all the books I read...prefer to do that than borrowing them :P

I like to but books too instead of borrowing, borrowing them you have to worry about return dates and someone might have destroyed the book too without telling anyone. I hate that.
