When you talk to the lone dog guarding the castle, he says:
"be sure that he gets his just desserts"

I noticed that too, but due to the change in pronunciation over the years, I guess the phrase has changed its spelling as well. I see "just desserts" all over the place. This wouldn't be the first time. The correct phrase, "just deserts" is actually quite rare. It's good to see people haven't forgotten the original phrase, but I think to no avail, the phrase's spelling will undoubtedly change because of the pronunciation. At least the meaning of the phrase has stayed intact. Interesting read, and nice find.

This thread has brought to my attention that, "Just Desserts" would be a great name for an ice cream parlor or a bakery.  :pleased:

I've definitely seen one before.  I don't remember what city exactly, but I know I've seen a bakery named "Just Desserts."  :)

Huh. I did not know that either!
QuoteThe usual reasoning is that a dessert is a type of reward one is given at the end of a meal, so someone who receives suitable rewards or punishments for his actions has gotten his "just desserts."

That part there is pretty much exactly how I always thought of it.

For a long time, I thought the same. But I tend to question the origin of a lot of phrases and linguistics, so I learned much later on what it really was called. It's no big deal though. If the masses consider the phrase to be "just desserts", then it shall so forth be referred to as "just desserts".

So what if I am, huh? Anyways, I work better when I'm drunk. It makes me fearless! If I see a bad guy, I'll just point my sword at him and saaaaaaaaaay, "Hey! Bad guy! You're not s'posed to be here! Go home or I'll stick you with my sword 'til you go, 'Ouch! I'm dead!' Ah-ha-ha!" Ha-ha. *hic* See? Ain't no one gonna be messin' wit' ol', Benny!
