Need some help in music

I don't know if I can agree with that. Anybody can sing after enough practice. But you have to practice properly. Know what you're practicing. The problem is not everybody can learn what needs to be learned. They don't "get it". If they did, they'd certainly be able to sing.

Is that splitting hairs? Maybe...lol

I guess I should be more clear I do work with a partner who plays instruments and does vocals I am looking to become more skilled in the production of tracks

Production takes practice and time as well. I've been doing it for 10 years and I'm still not as good as I'd like to be. I'm learning all the time. And I went to school for it!

To return to the MJ comment, if you watch his final work "This Is It" (a documentary of him practicing for his tour of the same name) you'll see the hard work that went into everything he did. Now Jackson isn't really my favorite music of all time, but he did some good stuff over the years and this DVD is very good.

Would you still be interested in learning music theory? I think that would help immensely. Also, were you planning on producing tracks just by layering loops on top of each other? Cause that's the one thing you shouldn't do. The special effects are nice, but first things first, record a song. Then production comes into play. Loops are more for pre-production. More or less, finding a sound for the song.

For instance, I may start off with a few drum loops, and maybe a guitar riff, but then I add melodies that define what I want the song to sound like (lead guitar or piano). After I record my own drums and guitars back into the song, I would go through different sounds to help improve the song. Violin sounds are my favorite, go-to thing. It may differ for everybody. There's also changing the time of the song. If any instrument is off the beat, you can use Beat Detective to correct or alter it. Also, there is Autotune, but I hate Autotune. It makes the voice sound robotic. But there are other forms of pitch correction that don't sound as crappy.

Best way to learn is to experiment with everything that your program has to offer.

Not bad, but some sort of melody or vocalization would be nice. Otherwise, you have a minute's worth of a drum beat.

I know I am trying ti add a melody but I am unsure what type of main instrument this calls for suggestions?

That's up to you. The only suggestions I have is to use synths, cause live instruments will not blend with the beat you are using. Unless you want to use an electric guitar with a wah-wah effect or maybe digital delay. When it comes to synths, I'm not an expert, cause almost all of the sounds are unique in their own way and could be used for almost anything. It's far too broad for me to narrow it down to one particular sound. You're the artist, and this is your canvas. No one can tell you how to paint it, but you.
