Same premise as my KQ8 thread: What are things you liked, enjoyed or loved about or in KQ7?

GrahamRocks!

Me?

Pretty much everything! :)

That is all.

As I said in another thread, I thought the Boogeyman was a surprisingly good villain, notwithstanding the fact that he could've been removed from the game entirely and no important plot points would have been lost.

What else did I like about KQ7? Absolutely nothing. GrahamRocks and I continue to cancel each other out.

I LOVED KQ7, albeit not as much as 6 or 3. I really liked the chapter system, that each chapter ended with a cliffhanger akin to a serial TV show. I loved that I could select my favorite chapters for replay (2,4,5). I enjoyed switching back and forth b/n 2 characters, slowing weaving their adventures together. The art was also very beautiful and a big step up for the series. The consolidated cursor was kinda lame tho.

Bludshot

Errr....I guessed I liked that Valenice didn't collapse in the desert as often as her husband?

I liked watching Valanice get her flesh ripped from her bones by the tornado. So satisfying.

And while we're at it, I liked making Valanice drink the salt water, leading to her spontaneously face-planting into the ground.

And her getting stabbed in the face by the scorpion...

I kind of hate KQ7 Valanice if you haven't noticed.

Well, KQ deaths are almost always amusing.

I actually like KQ7 and find it somewhat underrated, though I agree the walking animation is too slow given you have to circumnavigate the globe several times.

The characters are nice and express more range of emotion then ever before (and it is funny to hear one of the characters riff on the situation... and the death quotes). The Puzzles flow a lot more than some of the Kings Quest (with two HUGE exceptions)... and I like the side characters as they are often given more personality then in previous games.

I also like how they managed to make the Boogeyman actually scary given he looks rather silly. The music is rather frantic.

People criticize the animation in KQ7 but it has to be remembered that KQ7 was the very first Sierra game (and one of the first adventure games in general) which took on the Disney/Don Bluth animated look. And many other games and companies copied the animated adventure approach, with the style dominating the adventure genre by the mid to late 90s. KQ7 was basically the first in a brand new style and there were bound to be foibles. Consider how rough and unrefined KQ5 (another Sierra game which also acted as the testing ground for new technology) is compared to KQ6. But we don't tend to focus on the myriad flaws that KQ5 has, yet we do with KQ7. For what it was, which was an experiment and pioneer of a brand new style, KQ7 worked. I think the main flaw of KQ7 is that it changed too much all at once, but that doesn't mean the changes were bad ones, just that there were way too many at once which overwhelmed and alienated veteran players. A light hearted, comedic approach was not all that new to KQ, the series was always campy and not too serious, with downright cheesy moments like the Yeti Pie in V. Having two protagonists was a nobel idea, but could've been handled better. The one click interface was a mistake, but it was an attempt to reach new players in a time when the adventure genre was beginning its slow decline in competition with more simplified games. The absence of a narrator was something that was going to happen eventually as graphics improved. I consider KQ(7 an A rated game that followed two A plus entries.

KQ7 is a great game at certain times because it satisfies my need for a game that reminds me of childhood.

I don't know about the rest of you, but I get into different gaming moods. Sometimes I just want a brainless game that I can play when I'm sick or half-asleep. Other times, I want an in depth story and heavy character development, like an interactive novel, but there are other times I get in the mood for a silly, child-like game. KQ7 is the game that I play when I have the same inkling to watch Disney movies. In those moods, I find Fifi Le Yip Yap and the stock at the Faux Shop -- among other things in the game -- funny. (I'd say a few drinks would also help the process, but I don't drink.)

Though I was in high school when the game came out, I still feel like a kid again when I play it, and that nostalgic feeling is why I like KQ7 -- but only when I'm in the mood.

I guess I just don't see why they had to go with a cartoonish, animated look. The jump between KQ4 and KQ5 didn't actually change as much as the jump between KQ6 and KQ7. With 5, the biggest change was a more detailed art style--that nevertheless looked pretty much how KQ4 and KQ1 SCI would've looked with a more advanced engine. KQ7, though, doesn't look like the previous games with better graphics. It looks like what it is: a first attempt into animated territory undergoing some serious growing pains. And while some people are more forgiving of the animation, I have to agree with Slowbeef from Retsupurae when he puts it thusly: "If you're going to invoke Disney songs, why would you remind everyone your animation department is on completely the opposite end of the spectrum?"

To me that is rather simple... because that is the theme they went with. They wanted it to feel more like a modern day princess movie.

Each Quest for Glory game has a different feel in terms of both the mythos and how the story flows (with some exceptions made to ground you in the experience).

So I wouldn't be surprised if they wanted the Kings Quest series to be sort of like that.

I'll have to agree with GrahamRocks!

Kings Quest VII was the very first KQ game I've ever played and it'll always have a special place in my heart. Even though I understand why people complained about the Disney aspect of it, all the characters were enjoyable to talk to and converse with(Especially that flirty troll!) and I liked the back and forth protagonist change.

I love that it got me back into the KQ series.

As a child, we had KQ1 and 2 on our Amiga.  My Mum made my brother erase both of the disks after he did nothing but go onto the wolf screen to scare me (I was about five at the time and the games mesmerised me like nothing else!).

We got KQ7 with our first PC and I remembered the series and got back into it.  So I do always have a special place for the game even if it's not the best in the series.

Same here! Also, there's myself, as Numbers mentioned. And thanks for mentioning me!

Other things I like doing are making royal women go swimming in a fast moving river

forcing a hapless queen to hold dynamite until it explodes

having a troll girl gorge on baked beetles

and of course, the ever popular turn-into-a-jackalope-and-reveal-the-Were-Bear's-underpants!

I'm playing through the game right now and, like the previous games, I like how you advance your quest by helping others. However, the thing that sets it apart from previous games is the "autosave" feature, where if you die, the game takes you back to a point before you died.

That being said, it's a double edge sword. Currently I'm stuck in this loop where
Valanice is going to dreamland and is immediately attacked by a nightmare. I do not have time to use my dreamcatcher on it as once I reload the nightmare is upon me.
sigh.
Grateful about a free game currently in development & offering support to the dev team in hopes the final episode will be released. Will keep waiting for updates.
