A lot of this horror fanfiction seems to draw inspiration from the cool Polybius urban legend and the short story 'Killswitch', which is the only decent 'spooky video game' story I've read (admittedly, I haven't read many.) Too bad that the concept is so thoroughly overdone now, because it could probably be interesting if approached by a decent writer.

Numbers

I've heard of a decent Creepypasta that details someone playing a game they're so absorbed by that they refuse to stop playing it and eventually starve to death. It's a freaky premise and a legitimate concern because addicting habits like that actually happen in the real world. It reminds me of a news story wherein police investigated a house that the owner, an old man, hadn't left in a week, and the place was starting to stink. They found the decaying corpse of the man sitting on his toilet, one hand over his crotch, the other still clutching a pornographic magazine. It's pretty obvious what he had been doing in the last few minutes of his life.

Moderation in all things, people.

I'm imagining a story where police find the corpse clothed only in VR and splayed across the floor in the T-pose.

Numbers

Ah, the T-pose. The most horrifying position to find a body in. A position that makes one question whether the corpse in question was truly human or was, in fact, an android that reset itself upon deactivation.

Going back to the Creepypasta stories, a lot of them rely on things like loud noises and suddenly experiencing something jolting, a la jump scares. This is all well and good if you plan on making the Creepypasta a short movie or interactive game (though I'm against jump scares in general), but a word of warning: these will only ever freak out the person in the story, not the person reading it. Jump scares do not work in written form. Unless you're Jon Arbuckle.

Hey guys,

I want to apologize about my silence. As mentioned, I had serious computer trouble. Besides that, things are still slow.
Notable updates this month:
- Rich went in and broke/fixed/replaced the path-finding part of character locomotion. This should result is fewer walking bugs and greater ease of use.
- Due to life things, we're down to one animator (not counting myself as I'm lead and do a bit of everything). This is ok for now as we've almost cleared the list of animations we can do at this point.
- To help clear things up and hopefully schedule us better; we have a new producer/project manager! I just need to make sure she's all set up with programs and she can start bossing us around a bit. I'm really hoping this will help us keep moving.

Before I go today, I'd like to request we try to keep this thread more on topic. I'm really glad to see ya'lls civil discussions here but it looks like we went...four pages or so with stuff only tangentially related to TSL and related updates. I'm not discouraging the chats but we have a whole forum for other topics and ya'll're more than welcome to make new threads as needed.

Cheers

Okay, sorry if I went on for too long talking about other stuff.

A thread for talking about fanfic writings would be a great place for it, though!

I've started a fanfiction thread in the Random Talk sub-forum, just to let you guys know.

Thanks for the updates! Things may be slow but I'm glad they're still moving along. I'm a big fan of the series and the TSL episodes and look forward to seeing the finished episode! Keep up the work!
Grateful about a free game currently in development & offering support to the dev team in hopes the final episode will be released. Will keep waiting for updates.

I take it this means Episode 5 is still a reality?  Per the Wikipedia page,  the project was abandoned about 2 years ago and all rights were given to Activision to make KQ2015.

GrahamRocks!

Yes. And I don't think Activision cares about the game, really.

Episode 5 has not been abandoned; it's just going slowly. :) Activision has had the rights to make KQ games all along. They just granted Phoenix Online Studios the right to make an unofficial game.

I've noticed other unofficial remakes pop up online as well. Namely the one done by The Odd Gentlemen that's part of a Humble Bundle.

But that's an official reboot...

That's one of the reasons I haven't played that version. I've been following this project for a while now and am excited to see how it's finished.

But you brought it up, talking about unofficial remakes online and said that was one of them. It's not.

Besides, it's really good so far! Don't deprive yourself.

I don't know...some of those Metacritic ratings for Chapters 2 and 3 are pretty vicious. It seems like unless it's the PlayStation 4 or Xbox One ports, the audience rating is guaranteed to be in the red. The PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 ports for Chapter 2 are tied with an abysmal 2.2/10 rating, and the PC port isn't much better, with a measly 4.2/10.

GrahamRocks!

Huh? I knew chapter 2 didn't get as high reviews as chapter one, but I don't remember chapter three getting any sort of negative reviews at all and from the people who played it so far, I haven't seen much in terms of hatred or dislike. Though there are some debates going on about certain characters, but that's not really a critique...

Numbers

Look up the Metacritic ratings for yourself. For whatever reason, people are pissed at Chapter 3. I recall seeing a negative review for it (don't remember which port) where someone said "Chapter 1 was great, Chapter 2 was horrible, and Chapter 3 is somewhere in between."

If I had to guess...
It's probably people pissed about the confirmation that Manannan, one of the most menacing characters in the original series, is now a goblin voiced by Wallace Shawn, not to mention Hagatha and Mordack being sympathetic characters instead of straight-up villains. The Manannan thing I understand people being mad about, but as for the other two, it's possible to rewrite a character into a tragic villain and do it well. I can't say for myself how well-written they are though, since I haven't seen anything past Chapter 1, and looked up spoilers for Chapters 2 and 3 of my own volition since I'm not particularly invested in this series and don't mind being spoiled.
