KQpong...it's all in the wrist if that top spot is what you missed...I've gotta go with Grim Fandango as my fav last played adventure game...I was so inspired that I downloaded emulators and roms for every possible system and game I could think of...sally forth adventure ho!
It's peanut butter jelly time!

Ooh! I forgot one! I recently played the longest journey which, though not nearly as engrossing or awesome as kq or grim fandango, wasn't bad. One of the best parts about it was...it was really long, really freaking long, if kq9's that long I'll send everyone who worked on it a million dollars...
...
Ok, I admit, its monopoly money but still...

B'rrr

yeah still.... that is a lot of monopoly money ; ) ...how many games do you own, cuz there are a lot of team members  ;-D

I wouldn't exactly call Sanitarium a recent adventure game. A great adventure game though nonetheless...

I don't really play any recent adventure games. Myst scared me. It also confused me to death. I even ended up using a walkthrough. Still had no clue! Also I couldn't stand the way of getting around. I am a 112% supporter of the screen by screen format. I can't find any adventure games that really interest me so I don't play them. Also the "adventure" of baging Connors head around? Tres cool.

I don't really play retail adventure games either. Maybe you should try some of the free/shareware/trial ones, they're usually better.

Okay, by "recent" I meant "within the last 5 years." Sanitarium broke that by 1 year, but since I still see it for sale at Best Buy and Wal-Mart, I included it. I guess Grim Fandango can count too. I'm talking about games you can actually buy at a store without having to drag the bargain bins. I know it's been awhile, but adventure games used to be on shelves too, and nowadays they're making it back there.

As for myself, I voted for Broken Sword. That game was just awesome in all sorts of levels. Definitely the best adventure game to come along in years. As for others, I recommend "The Black Mirror." It's got a bit of a different flavor to it, but it's a traditional pure adventure game and the story is okay enough.

Don't let games like Myst scare you away from buying new adventures, though. One of the main reasons they don't make new ones is because people don't buy them anymore. If you buy good ones like Broken Sword, then the market will begin to show some improvement.

Also, if you want to include good original freeware fangames (that is, not based on existing franchises), those are admissable too.

For you and me, my brother, there is good wine poured in the inn at the end of the world.

Uru is great, though Syberia has a bit more plot-wise.

I really like Broken Sword up till the ending - thought it was kind of lame, so I didn't vote for that.  Syberia I remember really enjoying, but it was kind of long ago for me.  Same with Sanitarium - that's a really good game, though.  I didn't play the others, so I had to vote for:

URU

I voted for this because it invoked memories of first playing the original Myst.  I kept a journal and drew everything in the journal, took notes, etc., which I hadn't done since I played the original Myst game.  I found myself wanting to get home so I could boot up my PC and play the game.  I played it in 1st person because I thought the controls for 3rd person kind of sucked.  Also, I have stereoscopic 3D glasses that work with the NVIDIA card I have and playing the game in true 3D was incredible.  THe graphics were simply breathtaking.  Sure, the story wasn't epic in scope, but it did give a lot of background to the D'ni world and as a long-time Myst series fan, that was worthwhile (heck I even own the books!).

Yeah, the graphics in that game are pretty awesome. ;D Too bad the upcoming xpack is the last one, but hopefully Uru will one day be resurrected...

I dont understand why they call action games action/adventure :-\, cos i saw Return to Castle Wolfenstein and thats classed as Action/Adventure :-\, and the prequels were classified as Action :-\, confusing and stupid :(

I agree, some action/adventure games are actually only action, i have no idea why they call them adventure, cuz the adventure part is really small and often very easy ; (

Simple - the people who label those games "adventure" either have no idea what adventures really are, or want to make the game more appealing - it's not just another shoot-'em-up action game, it's an action/ADENTURE!! and that's so much better :P
Basically, any game where you have to do something besides shooting/fighting the whole time (e.g, pick up a key and open a door with it) can be, and usually is, labelled "action/adventure" :P

Aren't they going to start making offline expansion packs for Uru?
