It took ages to load even with a cable modem!  Plus the fact that the forum was a bit screwy on that server didn't help.

LOL!  I never said this forum wasn't screwy, it's just far less screwy than the previous server.    I have a feeling if there's another Smiley Parade thread, we'll have the same forum lag problem.

I would guess it simply had to do with the sheer number of images on each page... it's less a matter of downloading everything, than a combination of rendering that many elements, plus maybe some browsers being set to check to see if images had changed or not. Whenever you get that many potential connections to a server per page, it probably can do weird things.

I sometimes notice the same sort of lag on the Official Quiz Thread, and the Ugly Mug threads.
