hahaha, I love speculations :D

We won't make a "progress bar report" around here any moment soon (if ever) due the fact that coordination takes on quite a time to put together itself, so, that's the reason we at web department decided to create the journal, is right there and I try to keep our directors to post most of the times, but truth is they're as busy as it gets as well so it's not easy to spare a time besides all the work we actually do just to come here and shower you all with details. Although I'll try to do my bests and have some directive staff to come and post some updates in the journal.

In further news, 2004 was a REALLY good year because of production rate increased, I'd dare to say in about 50% because I ALWAYS get to see new stuff nowdays compared with before, even music department picked up on development with our talented Austin and Chris, it's so exciting seeing all the pieces of the puzzle merge together, also, in 2004 Neil picked up Direction over Programming department which has not only speeded up but actually organized everything so much better, we also have the recent promotion of Pablo in Assistant Dir. in Programming, very cool how everything is also moving on in Art department as well, 3d department as actually increased production too, we have staff like Mike and Allert and Jon which are simply amazing, so you can fill in the blanks about it, we're far far from design concepts now, we've been full time production and I can certainly say that soon enough I shall provide more details, at this moment feel free to continously randomly guess :D

. . . which may end up being when we are too old to play.

What exactly do you mean by "too old to play"? I don't think I'll ever truly lose interest in video/computer games, and the only reason some people today say they're "too old" to play video games is because they didn't exist when those people were younger, so they can't relate to the experience and don't really want to try. And that's fine for them, but our generation has grown up with video games, so I doubt very many of us will simply "grow out" of playing them, if that is indeed what you meant. We may play less of them as we get older and develop greater priorities, but video/computer games are certainly not a form of entertainment that is shrinking demographically.

So, what I'm trying to say is this: stop bemoaning the fact that KQ9 isn't going to be released next week. A couple more years of waiting isn't going to kill you, and if you're worried about being "too old" by that time, then I'd suggest you stop making pointless posts on this forum and go do something  constructive while you still have your precious youth left. Perhaps you have a family history with cases of very premature incipience of dementia, or you have some other kind of terminal and debilitating illness that will prevent you from enjoying the game in the future? Apart from those justifications however, I can't say I have anything to commiserate with you about concerning this matter.

Chances are the game will be released and relatively soon, but even if it is not you still have nothing to remonstrate about. The team does not owe you or any other fan anything, so please refrain from using such reproachful comments as the one you made above. If this sounds rather harsh to you, I'm sorry, but you have made many similar remarks of the same animus and I'm beginning to find them tiresome. The team is doing all they can with the limited means they have, without remunerative ambitions, and moreover doing a very good job at it. But by implying that you have no faith in their efforts you are not helping anyone or anything, least of all the game's progress. Keep that in mind. [/end rant]

Woo!  Go Vipt! XD  Where were you when I was taking my final high school English? ;P

The majority of dew's comments in this thread aren't very supportive, and Vipt's rant is fully justified.  I am glad the majority of you understand the time, effort, and passion that goes into the making of this game, not to mention the external forces that directly affect progress (i.e. school, work, family, etc).  You also realise that we are not being paid or reimbursed for making this game at all.  We are creating it for free for everyone to enjoy.

It baffles me that Dew is supportive of our team and game in many other threads, yet in the thread specifically created for it, placed in the Fan Feedback forum, he isn't.  I think that alone speaks more than anything.

Pessimistic/negative comments will not make this game complete any faster.  Technically, positive comments won't either, but at least they help to motiviate the team to work harder.

Anyway, Say's post above describes the progress we've had in 2004.  For the latest updates, keep watching the Journal.

Either way, what some fans do not understand is that everyone around here is not a kid, we're young adults with real lives, for example Cesar is currently hanging in there with continuing into his university degree and working part time, which happens to be the same case of Neil, work and studies as well, and if you go by the case of MANY around here, everyone is either working or studying or simply both, and in case you do wonder, I can actually claim I do see Cesar organizing every single week the team meetings in which over 20 ppl gather up to report, discuss, and preview stuff, not to mention that I can also speak the same from other team members that sometime during a week get to manage over 3 or 4 scheduled assingments. It's not easy when you do have a passion like this combined with your real life duties.

Same old same old which noone seems to get, everyone sets from granted that you're here and you gotta do it cuz, "oh but you're in that team that's what you're supposed to do", wrong, noone here is supposed or obligated to do absolutly anything, everyone has applied, has worked and continues to believe by their own free will. As everyone knows KQIX operates as a real life company although we don't get paid, we do HR, we do trainings, we do PR, we do logists, we do planning, we hire/fire ppl, we keep organizational schedules, team structures with responsabilities share, and so on, if we were just a merely bunch of stupid kids doing whatever we want you wouldn't have been able to see half the things we have showed around here, plus the fact we have not only done everything we have so far we keep on doing it, and sad to say it doesn't matter how much or how loud you make your comments be heard here, if someone wants to quit simply cuz they got a better job that consumes their full time, well guess what? we just wish them the best and thank her/him greatly for all the effort and commitment given to the team, and that's as much as we can do, all we hope is that we keep in touch and we manage to find someone else as good and talented as our friend going away.

It's really sad to see how everyone asumes things are either black or white, or how we get constantly comments that do not come to case, and I'm seriously not talking about dew whatsoever, I'm speaking in general terms because those few comments I've seen here they've happened in other threads in other moments and it's just more of the same which leads to nothing but a waste of time to even considering posting, if you don't have anything good to say then why say anything? if you don't believe it then save yourself the trouble to even post it, go post in another thread you find most interesting or more fulfilling to share with others.

As a matter of fact, I will not fall into any comment about this issue anymore, I obviously ignored it, I will not spoil anything we've done until WE consider it's worth to show, not because of random comments, due the fact since we're the development team we should at least have a voice at our pace and at our final product, I've said many things that are good enough but everyone can read whatever they want between lines, bottom line, if the website is still running, and you get to check out auditions, and clips and many other things that will be there yet to come, you can explicitly see that those things were not built overnight, but either way, it's out there to be seen and anyone can asume whatever they want from it, we'll be always doing what we can for the project but we won't reply to every single whim obviously, or keep on going about the same old again, we've got work to do and lately our priorities go above spamming everything developed around here rather than actually getting something together to display when it's its time to do so.

Let's just try to keep it nice here because in the end, there is no point to argue about this, if you're all here posting is because somehow you've got some faith into the project and regardless of how your support may come, try to keep it nice and clean because that's the community we aim to have as well as I believe we're civilized individuals who can communicate very natural in better/nicer ways.

Well I couldn't give a damn what day/week/month/year the game is released; All good games take time and the high quality effort the KQ IX team are putting into it means that it certainly will take time to complete (especially since they will have a VASTLY smaller budget than a full blown games company!) There is no point releasing a game which is extremely good in some areas but suffers from cruelly incapacitating bugs that have the potential to ruin the experience (anybody here played the original Falcon 4.0?)

So here's to the KQ IX team, if it takes another couple of years to finish the game then so be it; I'll still be here if no-one else is!

Cheers!  8)

Hey everyone,

First off let me explain my situation,

I am the head of my own game development project "Morning's Wrath" it has been in production for about three years now, and after lots of delays and more work than I care to express, we are on track for a march beta.

Now I am a huge Kings Quest fan, KQVII was the reason I started game development, so as you might imagine KQIX is _VERY_ important to me :-)

As the head of my game development group (composed of five people) I am able to explain in a good amount of detail where the current stage of development is, for instance...

1. We have finished the game engine
2. We have finished all the game maps
3. We have finished script-coding for 2 of the 4 game 'chapters'
4. we are about half-way(23 of 40) done with character art/animations
5. we've only cast one out of 40 people for voice tallent

The point I am trying to make here, is that I understand what the KQIX team is going through (maybe you don't think I do, but my team and I are esentially doing the same thing, with far less people), So what I want, and have wanted since I heard about this project (about a year ago), is Where are things in the development proccess I haven't been able to find a simple and straight answer to this yet, so please, post it somewhere accessable, I don't want a deadline, I just want to know where things are at, can anyone answer that for me?

That is somehow the very same question in disguise, although it was a cute attempt, I shall not spoil anything, sorry, so far we're not interested in fill in everyone with the %'s or specific report data, or general report procress or whatsoever, neither we should be disclosing any specific info, you shall know as we release things progressively. Something which is already known is the fact we moved on out of "designing" and "concept" into massive full production in 2004 for those who had no idea about it, you're just set on simple things and can't certainly figure out the facts, even simple updates which NOONE seems to pick up speak a lot more than the fact of us being answering to the same thing over and over again.

We are actually hiring more 3d staff (even animators), and we reorganized completly coordination, as well as a re-structured music staff and programming staff... and why obviously have done the little bits you've gathered around because of something, obviously a progress of development, we won't hire texturers or voice actors or whatnot just to poke their foreheads, come on, I mean, do we really need to be stating the obvious each time everyone asks exactly the same in different ways? things do speak for themselves, someone who hangs around would know more than we say, (due the updates and random posts we make sometimes) and bottom line, if it's not out in the open yet it means we're not interested in revealing that information so far.

Without further to add, thank you for the comments so far, when we want to let you guys know, this will be the first place that we shall announce any of that, so hang in there.

If you had a section devoted to listing 'coarsely' the acomplishments, then maybe people would stop asking. I for one dont have the time to scour the forums looking for what has been released. And if the question is being asked so much, then perhaps that might be indicative to the fact somthing should be done about it.

From what i gather of your post, you are just now really begining to 'put the game together'. I would like to know if my asumptions are right, mainly because this project is taking so long. I would like to know if I am not waiting in vain.
