This will be super interesting to see what they do with the series.

Woah! I definitely wasn't expecting that one. I wonder if it will cause as much division as TSL has?

Why would you post this without a link, or even an explanation?  I can't find anything on their site about it at all.

It was just announced yesterday so TT probably just hasn't had a chance to post anything on their site yet.

Ah...makes sense.  I had heard rumblings about it elsewhere but this is the first confirmation I've seen.

I wonder what implications this will have for fan games.  I also hope Telltale doesn't dumb down King's Quest the way they've dumbed down pretty much every consecutive game they've released.   :(

Nope. Not exciting. This is terrifying. Telltale's games have been getting more and more mundane as they go on. I thought they'd get better not worse. And with King's Quest....well that'll just be the deciding factor on whether I continue to be a Telltale fan or not. I've been wavering lately wondering if I should hold out and keep believing in them or to face the fact that I'm just kidding myself. Besides the fact that Telltale's style is completely the opposite of what made King's Quest and other Sierra games great to begin with. I'm not looking forward to this.

Just please PLEASE keep death sequences and work with at least ONE original designer in more than just an advisory capacity!

Also, it says King's Quest REBOOT as opposed to sequel. Are they changing everything? Time will tell, I suppose.

Personally, I enjoyed their Monkey Island game, and plan on getting to BttF soon as well. From everything I've heard, they've made some really solid games so far, so for my part, I'm excited to see what they come up with and glad the KQ series will be continuing on.

That depends on how its handled. If King's Quest continues as an overly easy game with no deaths, plastic bug-eyed cartoony characters, and a completely different story written without consulting ANY of the original designers then I'd rather it not live on.

Cez

There's one bit of news I know that may keep KQ very well within the Sierra standards. As a matter of fact, VERY TRUE to it. I hope that what I heard when I was there did develop into something good.

If that's the case, you shouldn't worry.

Well I'm gonna. Telltale haven't impressed me since they revived Sam & Max. Even their Monkey Island game was a let down....I only enjoyed it because I was in uber-fanboy mode. And after the BTTF letdown....I've got every reason to be uptight. I hope what you say is true, but I can't say I'm optimistic after everything that's happened. Really, they're games aren't the greatest ever....they're only somewhat funny, SUPER easy and present no real challenge whatsoever, and they all have the same exaggerated cartoony bug-eyed characters. Granted, Jurassic Park DOES look nice...but we'll have to wait and see if even that is as good as it sounds.

It's like when Nintendo started making games for "casual players" and left experienced gamers in the dust. I've always been hoping that their games would get harder, more interesting, and funnier. But they just don't recapture that spirit of classic Sierra OR LucasArts in any way. It's just a shadow of what was once great. Frighteningly, much like The Adventure Company, whose games are ABYSMAL.

I should note that I have supported Telltale for a long time and kept believing through all the criticism that they would improve. I'm being extremely negative right now and a little harsh, but I really feel that this decision to pick up a Sierra brand and to see what they do with it will really make my decision on whether I'm a Telltale fan anymore at all or not. This will effectively decide for me if Telltale really are that good or if they're just riding on my expectations of them to continue the classic adventure genre, which they have consistently failed to do.

I'm glad it's a reboot rather than KQ9. In this way they can only screw up the story and not the primary canon. Sometimes new stand alone series are a good thing.

Speaking of recent reboots, I thought Castlevania: Lords of Shadow was one of the best Castlevania games in a long time.
Well, ya, King's Quest is on Earth. Daventry is very old city from a long time ago. It's in ruins now and people aren't quite sure exactly where it used to be. There are some archaeologists searching through the ruins, they think they know its Daventry. But its somewhere on Earth."-Roberta Williams http://kingsquest.wikia.com/wiki/File:Daventryisearth.ogg

I actually wonder if by "reboot" they mean starting from scratch and doing it all over again (a la Nolan's Batman movies), or if they mean making new games and rebooting the life of the series by doing so. The statement is a little non-specific.

If they do a completely different story with new characters they might as well not even call it King's Quest. If they reboot from the very beginning with King Edward et al, everything we've loved about these characters will be lost with a brand new story. And even if they do a great story, the gameplay will still cause it to suffer. I just don't think it's going to work out.

The new Star trek, rebooted the series, with the same characters, and there are things about it I don't like as well.

The new Castlevania rebooted things with completely new characters, new interpretation of death. Its awesome.

I'm willing to give it a chance. Luckily with Telltale games they often allow people to try out the games in a demo mode to let people try before they even buy. Their games aren't that expensive anyways, so I might be willing to pay in advance.

I'm mixed about their various games, but I've had fun with most of them.

I have really mixed feelings about this.

On the one hand..... I agree with Lambonius. (This doesn't happen often folks! :P) King's Quest is a classic, and in that sense I think it should be left pretty much alone. I could see them remaking the games as-they-are just with updated graphics and multi-platform capabilities..... but then it's not a reboot, it's official remakes.

On the other hand.... we all know that I think there are areas where the storytelling could have been better. Where the series could have been more cohesive. I'm willing to bet that this is what Telltale is "rebooting" and the reason it isn't a remake. That's all well-and-good, but the reason that this area has so far been handled by fans is because that way it isn't official. This will make whatever it is Telltale pushes out "official" (or like, a level of canon is underneath official but higher than "Companion canon") and I am pretty sure I'm not okay with that.

That being said.... I'll play the demo. I'll probably buy the game.

I'm glad to hear, it means telltale can't screw up the primary canon. Their story will be self contained, and perhaps be somethign just as cool, standing on its own merits.
