Big C from Cauney island

Everyday before I go to bed I check these forums, and I've never been a part of one before this.  I'm still in absolute shock that people still think about not just kings quest, but all the old games of our youth.
I was around 4 or 5 when I started playing atari, nintendo, commodore 64 and pc way back in the 80s.
I really never though people still cared about these things till i stumbled on this site years ago.
So, my question is this.  What is it about those video games we can't forget that make them so important?
And, do you think 20 or 30 years down the line we might still remember all these games? Almost a quarter of a century later I still do, just curious what other people thought.  For games on ALL systems, as I was a commodore 64 gamer before pc.

Ya, I was 5 when I started playing Nintendo. The reason why I still love these games because they are still fun to play. They do not make games like how they used to.  The old games have good game play and good storyline. Most games today don't. The only new games I can think of that is fun to play are uncharted and assassin creed(which is my ultimate favourite game).

I do not think people are ever going to forget those old classic games.

Heh heh, I had the same problem when I first got here. ;] I waited a few months after registering to actually post.  Terrible mistake on my part!

But back to old games...they hold a special place for us because they were so state-of-the-art for their time, and we grew up on them.  We got to see history made right before our eyes! We were there when a yellow dot chasing smaller dots was as good as it got.  Then when some Itialian plumber fought a giant turtle to rescue a princess, it just got better!  We were there when the passion was in game design, where people were pushing the limits to do something that had never been done before.  The stories were timelss, the characters were badass, and it didn't matter that the storylines were full of holes or errors--"look at those graphics!" ;)

Video games are so freaking awesome, man.  You are among kindred spirits for sure! :)

I'm a second generation quester, so I didn't grow up on these games in the way that everyone else did; I was introduced to them through my dad. It was through him that I became immersed in the adventures of King Graham and the royal family. Had he not introduced me to these games, I probably would be like my peers and play first person shooters without even thinking of the classics that made modern day games possible. I feel like these games must be played in order to truly appreciate the video game genre and just how far it's come over the last 20-30 years. Without Sierra, LucasArts, Cyan etc, we wouldn't have what we have today. I feel like most people now a days tend to either forget or just don't care about what made the industry what it is today. I may be 19, but I certainly do appreciate and enjoy the classics that defined the video game industry's future.
