Im just a mere king's quest fan, so naturally my persistance greatly outwieghs my patience.

Does anyone know when the long-awaited infamous KQ4 Perils of Rosella Remake will come out?

I know it is fan made and will take some time, due to more important life-going-ons happening everyday, but i was wondering if anyone had some special super secret connections to the current progress of the game, to ease my impatient mind..

The last thing i heard about it, a release was planned for  "sometime after the release of tsl ep3".. Its becoming quite irksome googling 'KQ4 remake' every month or so to find the same old forum posts on less than official forum sites, and now that tsl ep3 completely fails to work for me, and i only have kq3 redux to take up my spare time, it would be awesome to one morning discover that the game is on the verge of being completed :)

I think you're thinking of AGDI's King's Quest III Redux. It was released Wednesday.

Magic Mirror Games is working on a KQIV remake, but as far as I know, they haven't said anything about when it will be released.

Yes im currently playing KQ3 Redux, and apart from the low game resolution, im really enjoying it.. But, yeh, it was KQ4 i was really looking forward to. If anyone else hears anything about the game progress, please post the news up!!

Me too! I have not heard anything new.

Also, heard someone is remaking king's quest 8. Does anybody know is that rumour is true?

Not sure, but Google turned up this page: http://www.kq8project.9f.com/cgi-bin/blog. The last update appears to have been in 2008.

And the last update to the KQIV Remake site, http://www.mmgames.org/KQ4/, was in October 2010.

I believe the KQ8 one is atec123's - I think that project is on hold indefinitely due to lack of time and resources. As far as I know, they're still working on KQIV. The project had stalled for a while due to a need for sprite artists, but they got one/some. I don't know how far along they are. I believe Elessar on these forums is a member of that team, but I haven't seen him around in a long time.

Yeah.  KQ8 isn't happening. (well not in the next 5 years or so at least) I didn't even know my old site was even on the webs.  yeah I just got too excited about the project, announced it too soon, and then realised I couldn't handle it.  I might eventually try again, but not any time soon.

As for KQ4... MMGames' remake is going slow.  they did somewhat recently hire 2 new sprite artists but I haven't really spoken with them since before that, so that is most likely speeding things up. (their main problem was sprites)

I think they had the problem of announcing their project too soon.  From what I understand it really isn't very far along at the moment.  I am a moderator on their forums, just because I used to lurk there a lot and was on and posted more than any of the team members, but I am not on the team.

I have it on reasonable authority that AGDI would like to do KQ4, but can't because of the nature of their license with Activision.

Nightfable over at AGS has made some backgrounds, and may be working on a game.  Check it out here.

A license exists? I thought AGDI just flew under the radar.

I have mixed feelings about a KQ4 remake.  On the one hand, I would like to see some of the more problematic puzzles tweaked, and it would be interesting to see a different take on the story, on the other hand ... I like the KQ4 graphics just as they are.  In fact, I prefer the graphics of KQ4 to KQ5.  If a remake is ever made I'll try it, but I think the graphics would have to be downright phenomenal to satisfy me.

KQ8 is not happening? That is too bad.
At less KQ4 is happening slowly.

How much long do you all think it will take them to finish KQ4? 2 years?

Blackthorne

I don't think they will finish KQ4.  That team fell apart; I don't think any of them realized the sheer amount of work it is to remake a game.

"they" being MMG?

I was starting to feel that way.  I think nightfable should go help them (or maybe some of them should go help nightfable with programming and stuff)

Yeah, "Magic Mirror" games.

I don't ever think they had much done beyond a few backgrounds, sprites and some bare-bones programming.

It's real easy to remake a couple of backgrounds and release a teaser.  Actually assembling a game.... it's a massive undertaking.  Massive!  Trust me.

Yeah.  Actually the easiest part is making the art.  And even that's only easy if you have a dedicated group of (hopefully good) artists.  Programming and bug fixing is the monumental task that seemingly never ends.  Not to mention sound effects, music composition, etc.  All that stuff takes a lot of time, commitment, and talent.

Oh, and you also have to have a clear direction for the whole project, and a coherent idea of every scene and interaction in the game, if not an actual written script.  Writing interaction descriptions is a whole other chore in and of itself.  At IA we all pitch in on that front, but without a solid project director who knows what he wants, it'd never get done.

Really? I thought that art was the most time-consuming part.

If *I* were doing it, the art would be the most time-consuming part. And it would still suck. :P Then again, it I were doing it, it would never get done...

Heh...well, I guess it depends on your skill set.  It's the easiest part in that it's the most fun part to watch come together, definitely.  :)

Arkillian

If you have a person on the team that specifically does art, it's like any other task you're good at. It's faster, and more enjoyable. If you're doing it on your own, there's too many trades to be good at. A game is really a multi-player event.
