I just heard about the great news, The kings quest universe is set to come to Tell Tale games!, im rather quite giddily excited lol. Now my brain may be misinterpreting facts however im assuming the popularity of The Silver Lining might have something to do with it, im also really hoping that it will involve members of Phoenix Online in the development.  :)

Telltale's game has nothing to do with Phoenix Online. I can confirm that Phoenix is not involved with TellTale's version of King's Quest. It is completely independent of our own. That being said, the popularity of our project may have had something to do with the reboot, but there are also other very active King's Quest fan projects out there. I can't attribute all the credit to us. IA did a superb remake of KQ3, and are currently working on highly anticipated adaptation of Kingdom of Sorrow, the second of three King's Quest Novels. And then AGDI just released King's Quest 3: Redux, as well as their previous remakes of King's Quest 1 and 2. Those fan projects I'm sure added fuel to the fire, so to speak.

Heh.  It's also not necessarily something to be happy about either.  At least, not if you are a fan of King's Quest games (or Sierra games in general.)

I want to give telltale the benefit of the doubt, but I find it so hard considering they basically, in my mind, butchered the adventure genre in the first five minutes of jurrassic park gameplay alone. I couldn't bring myself to watch the rest of that clip. Heavy rain was great, but telltale appears to have taken heavy rain and made it so stupidly simple it's an insult. I'm sorry if I'm offending anyone, but seriously! When I think of the modern evolution of the adventure genre, I'd rather it not be the direction telltale is headed in. If they can make their version of king's quest feel like king's quest, I will bow to them. I haven't seen any indications of either direction yet, so I can't judge. E3 will be the time when we hear more.

The way I see it: even though TT has the IP, their game won't be canon. Just think of it as a fangame that got funding. If you don't like it, then ignore it.

I, for one, am looking forward to it. Maybe it will be good.

And it is not called Tales of Daventry. That would be a horrible title.

I also somehow doubt that we'll get to see very much of King's Quest at E3. If the order of the list of the new announced franchises they're working with are anything to go by (Jake said he's currently working on The Walking Dead, which is the first on the list, and I recall and official Telltale statement recently that said they are not working on these side by side and they will come sequentially like past Telltale releases, they just announced a bunch of tem at once this time) King's Quest will be the last of those 5 new projects to get any work done on it. We'll probably get an announcement about a rough story concept...MAYBE some concept art. But I don't expect to get much material or explanation.

I must add I'm also excited to see what they do with The Walking Dead and Fables. :)

Exactly lol, which is why i was hoping that Tell Tale games might be interested in some input, i didn't think it was possible, but if they wanted to make a move in the right direction, that would be hiring phoenix online.

According to Game Informer, the title is Tales of Daventry, but even they could be wrong about the title.

Lol some people dislike POS's approach to King's Quest as much as they would Telltale's. All I want them to do is have Josh Mandel on board as an active developer of the entire project and not just an "advice-giver."

And I don't see anywhere on Game Informer where it says the official title is "Tales of Daventry." Link? I remember a fan on the Telltale forums suggesting it. I and many others were against the idea. That's the only time I've ever heard it mentioned, though.

I've read the latest issue of game informer where it mentions Telltale's acquiring of the license, but no such name was present to my knowledge.

Yeah I'd actually be really shocked if that were the title because a lot of people wouldn't immediately make the connection between "Tales of Daventry" and "King's Quest."  If they wanted to call it "Tales of King's Quest" on the other hand...

what about the ones that aren't in daventry? :P

i don't like that name anyway.  why not just "king's quest"?

Tales of Monkey Island had nothing to do with Monkey Island :P.

Personally I think the whole "Tales of" title is a bad idea because that's what they named the new Monkey Island and labeling a Sierra game with a LucasArts-related suffix sends too many of the wrong messages, no matter how innocent it is.

If people haven't yet I encourage them to read this interview about it which made me gain some hope in there version of the KQ series. http://www.adventuregamers.com/article/id,1286

I've read it. It's a good read but doesn't really say a whole lot. Yeah, he's sort of confirmed deaths but how will they be handled? There are no details just vague statements. It's certainly not going to give me cause to allay my caution nor is it going to make up for past quotes by Dave in the past. We'll see how it all turns out. At least it seems that there are real Sierra fans working at Telltale nowadays. Let's just hope their current business model doesn't force the game to become something it shouldn't.

dark-daventry

That was an interesting read. It makes me a little less concerned, but my fears won't be completely alleviated until we see some concrete gameplay.
