Because Connecticut is known informally as the "Nutmeg State" (formally as the "Constitution State", because Connecticut was the first state to draft a Constitution).

"Nutmeggers" is much easier than "Constitutioners" or "Connecticutians" or something even more atrocious.

Very cool! Thanks for joining in! I don't hear much difference between our accents :P

By the way...what did you say you call it when it's raining and the sun is shining? I couldn't make it out :(

I said I call it weird. I don't have a proper name for it because it baffles me every time I see it.

:S My tongue didn't like the way "Connecticutians" felt.  "Nutmeggers" indeed flows so much more easily. :)

I've never heard such a term.
Seriously? They say it on the news here: "...and on Wednesday we'll be experiencing some light rain with a few sunbreaks..."

I agree Doon! I have never seen that either. I felt silly while recording this because I've never heard of the second question.

Indeed it does, but I'd never say it in real life, because the word "nutmeg" has been tainted. When someone kicked a soccer ball between another's legs, or when a baseball grounder went through someone's legs, kids would say that person had been "nutmegged". So you see, therefore, why "Nutmegger" is weird to me.

I agree Doon! I have never seen that either. I felt silly while recording this because I've never heard of the second question.

I would feel silly as well. I would just call it "rain with sunshine" or something.

Again, I find it amazing (and awesome! :D) that we're from the same country but have such differences.  The term "sunbreaks" is so commonplace here in the Pacific Northwest, I can't imagine not hearing it.

And Kristen, this is what that bug it. :)

Wow! Loving the accents all! I know ya'll are like "I don't have one" but when you're listening to someone from a different area of the country, they do have an accent :)

Enchantermon...you sound awesome!

And I'm trying to convince Erik to do one. Of course, his response is "I'll do it tomorrow." I'll see if I can pull him over tonight :P

. . . and I noticed Enchantermon says "gro-sir-ees" when he says "groceries."
Yup. And I've actually never heard it any other way.
Cool, you remind me of a KQ narrator. You should record some lines.
Enchantermon...you sound awesome!
Wow, really? ;] Thank you both! I never really thought my voice was anything special...
Also, you're from North Carolina but you don't seem to have any accent relative to me, a native of Connecticut.
Well, I live in NC now, but I was born and raised for 16 years in Indiana. Even though I've lived here for seven years, I haven't picked up an accent.
So what if I am, huh? Anyways, I work better when I'm drunk. It makes me fearless! If I see a bad guy, I'll just point my sword at him and saaaaaaaaaay, "Hey! Bad guy! You're not s'posed to be here! Ah, I see. Do most residents of NC have an accent?

Also, loosely related: are you familiar with Medoc State Park (of NC)?

Here's what I sound like.  The audio is rather loud (probably from my headset microphone), so I'd suggest turning down the volume a few notches.  By the way, I am older than I sound.

No, your voice is cute, Arkillian.   ;)

Actually, my sweetie had to write a paper on a dialect for his HEL (History of the English Language, which is hell due to the workload) class, and we started paying attention to even subtle differences between regions.  Apparently, I pronounce "caught" the same way I pronounce "cot."

I like your one though- What is the bubbly carbonated drink called? I call it Soda. My friends and boss call it pop, but although I like them, they're kind of wrong, it's SODA. Just leave it.

I loled XD You're so stern about it.

Actually, a good way of telling a Kiwi and an Aussie apparently is by getting them to say "Six hundred and Sixty Six" If we have a northern Australian and a south NZer here, the difference sounds like "Sux hundred and Suxty sux" (Kiwi) and "Sexhundred and sexty sex" (Aussy)

Oy... don't even get me started on dialects/accents... :stars: ...there is far too much variation just in the vowels in English (even just within the confines of AMERICAN English for that matter) for my tastes. ::)

I will probably record and post this later... hrmm... I think I'll try to convince Deloria to do it too. :P

Life residents typically do, at least that I've noticed, though I do know one girl who has lived here all her life and who doesn't have an accent.

Negative. Why do you ask?
. . . "Sexhundred and sexty sex" (Aussy)
Those dirty Aussies. ;)

What do you call the kind of spider that has an oval-shaped body and extremely long legs?
And by the way, since I completely forgot to mention this in my recording, it's not a spider. ;)
