To break out of the chair, btw, you rapidly alternate between pressing L2 and R2.
So what if I am, huh? Anyways, I work better when I'm drunk. It makes me fearless! If I see a bad guy, I'll just point my sword at him and saaaaaaaaaay, "Hey! Bad guy! You're not s'posed to be here! Go home or I'll stick you with my sword 'til you go, 'Ouch! I'm dead!' Ah-ha-ha!" Ha-ha. *hic* See? Ain't no one gonna be messin' wit' ol', Benny!

I actually wrote a text adventure-type game for my TI-84 calculator during high school trigonometry, even though I dislike text games. It was called ESCAPE, and in it, you wake up in a dungeon and have to move from room to room to find items and do stuff in order to escape. It was a good exercise in programming.
During as in while sitting in class?

I remember playing the Zork games.  But I only beat Zork II.  Also, we had a version of Adventure - The Colossal Cave.  Some folks said the LWPI room was hacked version of the game, some said it was in actual versions.

But yeah, those were fun.  'Throw bear at troll.'

Hmm, its a bit different on PC version, forget the key combos though. Might be mash 'spacebar' for a bit, can't remember exactly.
Well, ya, King's Quest is on Earth. Daventry is very old city from a long time ago. It's in ruins now and people aren't quite sure exactly where it used to be. There are some archaeologists searching through the ruins, they think they know its Daventry. But its somewhere on Earth."-Roberta Williams http://kingsquest.wikia.com/wiki/File:Daventryisearth.ogg

I love the idea of text adventures, and I remember playing Colossal Cave as a kid ... but I'm still waiting to meet a text adventure that grabs my imagination the way Sierra's better games grab me.  I think it's possible, it just hasn't happened.

Don't get me wrong, I've had a wonderful time playing some text adventures.  The Zork series is great, particularly II and III (I is a bit maze heavy for me).  Wishbringer is also a lovely game.  Oh, and I've also played Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy on the BBC website, it's just that, since I refused to look up hints/walkthroughs, I eventually got stuck.  I do plan to go back to that game, and darnit I'm not going to look up hints even if it takes me years to get through it.

Anyway,  since I have the Infocom Masterpieces CD, I don't lack text adventures to try when I am so inclined.

Infocom Masterpieces! that's the treasure trove... that's one of my favorite things in my game collection...

That's the collection GOG should have carried... I had a hard time finding a copy of Masterpieces, I think it might have been rare, and hard to find, even when it was new.

I agree that it's ridiculous that it's not available for download at GOG, or as a $15 CD at the Activision store (which sold it for that price until it went out of print).  The only people who win in the current situation are people trying to sell the CD on eBay.
