I've just installed The Silver Lining, but there seems to be something wrong with the in-game voices. When I click on a hotspot or character, the narrator's voice will stop mid-sentence, and sometimes won't play at all.

EDIT: Tried again; A few music tracks play at the very beginning at the episode, presumably an opening scene, but then cut as if they were skipped. Apparently all cutscenes and sound are broken, or something.

My tech specifics:

-Windows Vista; Dell Inspiron 1525

-1.5 GB RAM

-Video Card: Mobile Intel 965 Express Chipset Family

First thing would be to make sure you have the most current audio and video drivers from your computer manufacturer's website.  Those Intel video setups struggle with the game a bit anyway, so you may also want to lower the graphics settings in the game as well - it may just be that the graphical struggles the game is having are manifesting by cutting audio when the computer runs out of memory.

I've updated the drivers and scaled back the graphics settings, but there doesn't seem to be any change.

I've tried to install the Windows 7 patch, but it seems to fail. do I need to place it in a specific file?

When you run the patch, try right-clicking it and choosing the option to run it as an administrator, see if that gets it through.

Running as an administrator seems to have worked, looks like the patch was installed. I'm opening the game now to see if the problem's fixed.

EDIT: At first, the patch seemed to work-I managed to get through the first opening cutscene, which I hadn't even been able to start earlier. The second scene cut out, though, and the problem with the narration is still there. It's as if whatever's handling the scenes and audio is getting overexerted and calling it quits.

Tried to run the game again, but now it's just crashing.

Does your computer have dual processors?  If it does, check the affinity for the game process in your task manager and make sure it's set to use both processors.

Also make sure you don't have other stuff running in the background as sometimes other programs can interrupt the audio in the game and then it has trouble completely picking it back up again.

I can't seem to even open the episode now, the game crashes when I attempt to start playing. The Phoenix Studios logo no longer shows when I open the title menu, and the music there is missing too, which hasn't happened before. It seems to be getting worse.

Right-click on the shortcut you use to run the game, then in the properties box where it has the Target line about the game executable, at the end of that add -log 2.  The next time you run the game it should create a new file in the folder where it's installed that you can just open with notepad.  Copy and paste the last ten lines of that into a reply here.

The target box is greyed-out and uneditable.

Try running a command prompt and then just browse to the directory where the game is located then type tsl.exe -log 2.  It should just be in the Program Files folder under Phoenix Online.

I've navigated to The Silver Lining folder, but the tsl.exe-log 2 command doesn't seem to work.

It might be worth mentioning that I can't find the actual .exe file; The only thing available is the shortcut, which doesn't seem to have a containing folder.

If you're doing this via a command prompt make sure you're going to the actual folder where the game itself is installed, not necessarily the folder in your Start Menu where the shortcut is located.
