I know Im going to get bombarded for this but I enjoyed the twilight books. They aren't a hard read though by any stretch of the imagination though lol.  As far as cheesy goes though, I would consider them to be more sappy than cheesy.
Happy are we who find humor in ourselves, for we shall never cease to be amused!

Yes--well put. More sappy than cheesy.

I'd have qualms if you said they were great works of literature, but we're fine otherwise :) I read them, and they were nice easy popcorn reads. But then afterwards, I was like, "wait...what?!"

Yeah, Twilight isn't cheesy - it's sappy and melodramatic.

Cheesy - Unintentionally disingenuous, lacking subtlety and lacking discernment.

We've been saying cheesy, but I really think we mean "corny".

Yeah that's more what I meant about Arrested Development, not so much that it tries to be serious and fails and looks ridiculous later (see Full House) but that it's just ridiculous period.

Haha, yeah - exactly!  Full House is definitely cheesy/corny!

damn, now I'm really confused xD corny, cheesy, sappy - many words and they all somehow have the same meaning in German... We should start making more differentiation in those sorts of things... (It's so characteristical for the German language... Many words but they all mean the same, and nobody actually gives a damn about the small nuances of differences...)

A'ight, Twilight is not cheesy, it's just bad. *cough*. ... then I'll ask for the following: what about One Tree Hill? Would that go with sappy, too?

Here, let me make this more confusing for you:

Corny: containing empty, overblown emotion
Cheesy: containing thin, fake emotion
Sappy: containing copiously overblown emotion

Oy... You succeeded...
Am I right that those meanings all are rather negative than positive?

It depends on your perspective. If you're watching Mystery Science Theater 3000 (MST3K), then they're positive. :P
